Love Like The Galaxy (星汉灿烂) is adapted from the novel written by Guan Xin Ze Luan (the same author for The Story of Ming Lan) and at the recent Tencent Annual Drama Line Up, they have confirmed Zhao Lu Si and Wu Lei. There’s a time-traveling element in this drama. Our heroine in the modern world grew up in a divorced family; she lives with her grandma, making her quite wild and unruly, she does what she wants. On chance, she time-travels to the past and becomes the youngest daughter of a General’s family. Due to war, her parents are constantly in battle, bringing along her three older brothers for years, leaving her behind with her grandma. When they finally return, years of estrangement creeps in but her father and brothers dote on her. Except for her mother, who is extremely strict with her and our girl fans the fire by fighting right back. Despite mom being a tough lady, going to war, etc, she expects the opposite of her daughter – to be gentle, to be well-read (actually, she just can’t read ancient Chinese because she’s from the modern world), to be graceful. Since she’s of marriage age when they return, they become concerned that their daughter’s personality doesn’t fit in with the rich, high-ranking sons of officials, so they think it’s safer to settle for a low-ranking family. However, their troublesome daughter repeatedly meets with several high-ranking men, getting engaged and breaking the engagement several times.
Cue harem story. Lol.
The first man she picks is not a man she loves, but a man she has reins over. He’s basically a puppy who does as requested by the heroine because he likes her. The second man she meets is our male lead – the emperor’s adopted son. He comes to believe that she really likes him but at the time she’s engaged to Guy #1, and so he waits for the engagement to break to swoop in. She is the most drawn to him because of his complicated background and righteousness. Guy #3 is the type that spars and criticizes her constantly whenever he opens his mouth but deep down he is nursing a big crush.
The Long Ballad aka Chang Ge Xing aka (長歌行) is adapted from the manhua of the same name written by Xia Da. It follows our heroine, who’s a princess on the run. Her father is Crown Prince Li but after the new Emperor ascended the throne, he ordered his brothers and families put to death. She escapes, fakes her own death, disguises herself as a male and plots her revenge against the new Emperor, becoming a fierce military leader in the process. The manhua is highly rated among fans and has solid rating (9~) on douban. Readers also poured their hearts out for the arts as well.
Reviews are promising, our heroine is described as merciless and highly intelligent. Since she was young, she was trained in martial arts and battle strategies, so she holds her own in a fight. Our male protagonist is no less of a worthy character – he’s the adopted son of Jieli Khan, a leader of his own army, who is known for his ruthlessness and doing things his ways in the beginning. He slowly melts that attitude and begins to realize how his actions could affect those around him after meeting our leading lady. But he doesn’t know SHE is a SHE for a little bit.
A Female Student Arrives at the Imperial College (国子监来了个女弟子) is adapted from the novel written by Hua Qian Ci and follows our female lead – daughter of a high-ranking official as she accepts a bet to make the most popular young master (our male lead – Xu Kai Cheng) in town to accept her invitation to the the lantern festival. If she loses, she’s to become a performer during the festival. What she thinks is an easy task turns out to be much more challenging. She is turned away each time she tries to visit the Yan’s manor. With her father’s insistence, the Emperor grants her permission to become the first female disciple of the Imperial College, where our male lead is currently attending. She, along with her childhood best friend (played by Ren Hao), set out to turn the prestigious academy upside down.
Not sure how I missed this drama in my youku post but here it is!
Please Feel At Ease Mr. Ling (一不小心捡到爱) is a modern rom-com adapted from the novel written by Chun Feng Yi Du, who you might recognize as the author for novel-to-drama What If You’re My Boss (奈何boss又如何) which recently aired. The story follows our delivery girl – female lead who accidentally knocks over an heir to a large corporation, who at the time was in distress over battling for inheritance rights. He claims to be hurt and requests to be her responsibility. She doesn’t know of his status and thinks he’s not “okay” in the head, so she agrees to house him until he feels better. Thus begins the trope of co-habitation.
After years of rumours and changes, Qie Shi Tian Xia (且试天下) finally held a booting ceremony on 20 October. This drama is the highly anticipated adaption of novel of the same name by Qing Ling Yue and will be directed by Yin Tao (Love and Redemption, Under the Power, Listening Snow Tower). However, there was an absence of leads and no official confirmation at the ceremony. It has finally been confirmed today at the Tencent event that Zhao Lu Si will headline this drama. Her rumoured male lead is Yang Yang, but he is not yet officially confirmed.
