The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

 photo Vir2015 12.jpg

Let’s start a new tradition! I think we have a healthy population to get a decent percentage. I tried my best to include as many dramas as possible (at least the ones with accessible links and viewership.) As I came up with categories to add, I realized I didn’t watch/finish that many dramas this year. So you guys can definitely help with creative polls ideas for next year (lots of improvement needed!). I like to start small and build up from there. Just one reminder though, don’t turn this page into a war zone! Everyone is entitled to like and vote for the dramas/actors that spoke to them the most this year. It is our difference that makes the discussion colorful and interesting.

Voting ends in 4 weeks. Click away ~

Latest official news is that the Ghost Blows Out the Lamp web drama will be directed by Kong Sheng (one of the directors of Nirvana + All Quiet in Peking) and produced by Hou Hongliang (producer of Nirvana, AQIP, Disguiser, etc.), with Jin Dong and Chen Qiao En as leads. Let’s hope this turns out better than the epic mess that was Lost Tomb.

The medical drama headed by Jin Dong will also be produced by Hou Hongliang and directed by Li Xue (director of Nirvana + Disguiser)

Hu Ge is on a break from filming (and probably preparing for Nirvana in Fire 2 if it happens later in the year).

LOL dunno if you watched the Anhui TV awards but there was a bit in the middle where the host lady (a veteran dancer/teacher) dramatically advised Yang Yang (as his senior sister) never to take up a role that covers half his face no matter how much money they pay him hahahahahahahaha! All the audience was hooting and roaring with laughter and cheers LOL. She then quipped that covering half his handsome face is a grave injustice and everyone should understand that it’s not easy for YY’s parents to have a child as handsome as YY hahahahahahaha 🙂

Knew you would be happy hearing the news, Shimo. I’m glad we have a capable team. Miss Joe is sooooo lucky to romance both JD and Nick! Gahhh!

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

LOL and the drama awards all agree with me! 🙂

Shanying practically cleaned out ALL the Flying Apsara Awards (which are prestigious awards) and won heaps of stuff at the other awards like Anhui TV awards, and other sorts of media/popularity/people’s choice awards LOL

Hu Ge and Nick both made awesome speeches at the Anhui Awards. HG’s one was particularly moving! <3 And it was SO CUTE when Leo Wu got his award and he just kept looking meaningfully at Hu Ge the whole time and Hu Ge was so happy like a proud parent 🙂

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

LOL Joe must’ve saved a galaxy in her past life cuz look at the leads she’s worked with: Wallace Huo, Huang Xiaoming, Bosco Wong, Nick Wang, Jin Dong … like, c’mon!!!

The only thing I’m doubtful about is who the scriptwriters will be for Ghost Blows Out the Lamp … last I heard it was gonna be the Lost Tomb scriptwriters and that already has alarm bells ringing in my head. Hopefully Jin Dong will enact his famous “yell at directors/scriptwriters” ethic and not let them screw up like they did with Lost Tomb…

        • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Joe is very lucky with co-stars. Her management company is the best!

*stay positive* for the sake of all. =D

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

LOL Joe Chen’s agent is awesome to keep scoring her roles with all the hottest leading men! Man, to be an actress in her shoes! 🙂

*SIGH* I guess there’s nothing we can do about the scriptwriters other than hope that Shanying ppls will hold their own when filming. LOL I’m just hoping Jin Dong will enact his infamous “yell at the scriptwriters” reputation … I mean, if I have to sit through another piece of shit like Lost Tomb…!

    • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Me too! Nirvana, Disguiser, Wuxin for everything. But why is Wuxin and Disguiser getting so little love? And who the heck put Wallace Huo for anything?! Or HQG for anything, for that matter. Can’t believe in the rest of our non-Nirvana world, HQG gets so much more love than Disguiser! T.T And Wuxin gets so little love…like really little. Silent Separation did better than it in these polls and I thought SS was a train wreck (except maybe Wallace Chung).

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Wallace Huo for his awesome preformance in The Great Protector. HQG for its’ passionate soundtrack and favorite new faces/breakout star-Ma Ke. There you have it.

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

HQG is worse than cow dung with the mess they made of the script and directing and the shittier than shit CGI.

Zhao Liying was good as the main character (I blame the script, not her, cuz her acting was fine)
Ma Ke and Zhang Danfeng totally nailed their characters (actually they made their characters even better than the book versions)
Wallace H made me hate Bai Zihua (even though I actually empathized with BZH in the novel)

Hu Ge deserves accolades for Nirvana but let’s be real his Ming Tai in Disguiser was only very so-so (because I could see him “acting”, whereas in Nirvana he WAS Mei Changsu full stop – MCS is truly a great character and Hu Ge just TOTALLY wins this performance hands down), especially when compared with Ming Lou (it’s Jin Dong, no other words needed LOL), Ming Cheng (my man Wang Kai is one hell of an actor), and Ming Jing (Liu Mintao is an incredible amazing and just all round AWESOME actress OMG everything from voice to body language to facial expressions to aura is just on-point!).

I give special points to Wang Kai cuz Ming Cheng is only a background servant in the novel but in the drama he was absolutely outstanding. Also in the Nirvana novel, Jingyan is a relatively bland/flat character but drama Jingyan was so alive and 3 dimensional. Wang Kai gets special points because he truly studies his character in detail and brings out all the minutiae so naturally with his performance that he brings the character to life and just grabs the audience’s attention. It was the same with All Quiet in Peking where his character only had very little screen time but still made a very big impression. Screw it I just wanna see WK finally get some good lead roles where I can see his awesome acting skillz and hear his awesome voice acting and just seeing him grace my screen will make me happy 🙂

        • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

If I was to choose between Hu Ge. Ming tai and Mei Chang Su, Mei Chang Su all the way but what I did like about Hu Ge Ming tai is that he (Hu Ge) showed a wide range of emotions in Disguiser… Emotions that I’ve haven’t seen in his other role for awhile…. Seriousness, Anger, hatred, sadness and calm, and happy, and crying, love so I was quite shock at all the emotions Hu ge show that’s why his Ming tai gets lots of attention & praise too… Love Hu ge though….

        • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Zhao LiYing- the person is awesome, but her acting is bearable at best. Overacting is her specialty. There was no need for all the pouting and wide-eyed looks she kept doing throughout TJoF. When her and “Tang Bao” we’re together in a scene, it was as if both girls were trying to out cute each other. Her as the pure and innocent HuaQianGu just got overwhelmingly annoying. None of her crying scenes seem genuine as well. I could not for the life of me feel sympathy for her, and it was not the scripts fault. She was also complete poo as the Demon Goddess. She couldn’t embody any of the characteristics of an all powerful ruler, not in the way she walked, not in her gestures, her facial expressions, nothing. She reduced the Demon Goddess to a mere tamtrum-throwing teen with too much make-up. I’m convinced she slept through that role. There was no commitment there. I’m going to say this, even if its against popular opinion, ZLY as HuaQianGu was a miscast.

        • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

HQG and her shifu are my least favorite characters of the year hands down! lols. so i don’t know which actress could have done her better. pouting, yes, but i don’t think she did a lot of wide-eyed expressions. plus, the author did state that ZLQ was her dream HQG (same with wallace) when casting call was announced. and lo and behold, these two characters bored me to tears. i don’t know what other characters see in them. LOL.

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Tang Yan’s lack of acting has been universally panned by audiences and critics alike and all reviews say that Wallace Chung is the only saving grace of the series, so that’s why Tang Yan getting acting awards over Liu Mintao’s Ming Jing has most people scoffing at the utter bullshit and injustice of it all.

But then again if Fan Bingbing can get Best Actress for squeezing/popping out boobs then what else can I say LOL

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

I haven’t seen Wuxin so I can’t comment but reviews say good things about it so yeah 🙂

  2. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Vote for the disguiser and nirvana in fire for each ^^

    • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

      HIGH FIVE! 🙂

    • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

One big problem I had with Disguiser was when Ming Tai and his co-conspirator switched to dubbed Japanese with glaringly different voices. That was just sloppy.

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

LOL I guess it couldn’t be helped cuz Hu Ge and the other person can’t speak Japanese, so voice dubbing is the only way to go

        • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

but they could at least have found dubbers with similar voices!

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

@ anon: It’s not easy to find professional voice actors who speak Japanese at native level proficiency in China…

  3. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Undoubtedly Niravana and Disgusier in all categories!

    • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

      HIGH FIVE! 🙂

  4. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Zhao Li Ying all the way!

  5. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

The Disguiser and Love me if you dare are everything, in fact, Hu Ge and Wallace Huo are everything! ♡

  6. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Like this new tradition! Can I share some of my picks? (in no particular order). And this is only based on dramas that I’ve seen (entirely, partially, or randomly), so I definitely miss some performances that are probably outstanding.

Favorite dramas: My Sunshine, Nirvana in Fire, Wu Xin, Legend of Qin, The Great Pretender.

Favorite lead couples: The Nirvana bromances, Elvis+Gina (Wu Xin), My Amazing Bride (already love them from the few eps I saw)

Alternate OTP (yay! I love this category!): ZDF+ZLY (Flower), Ma Ke+ZLY (Flower), Nick Wang + Sandra Ma (LMYID –> I can never understand how Bo Ji Yan+Jian Yao not send anyone to sleep, LOL)

Favorite Breakout Performance: Nick Wang (Nirvana), Elvis (Wu Xin), Ma Ke (Flower), Yang Yang (Lost Tomb)

Favorite New Faces: The Wuxin Trio (Elvis, Gina, Ian), Ma Ke (Flower)

Most Tragic Character: Jiang Xin (HXY), ZLY (Flower)

Favorite Soundtracks: Wu Xin, Nirvana, Legend of Qin, My Sunshine

Favorite Villains: Liu Yu Jun (Nirvana), Sun Yi Zhou et.al. (Legend of Qin), Edward Zhang (LMYID –> practically the best thing about LMYID, based on what I read)

Best Actors: Wallace Chung (My Sunshine), Hu Ge (Nirvana), Nick Wang (Nirvana).

Best Actresses: Liu Tao (Nirvana. But to be honest, I prefer the actress who plays Xia Dong), Li Qin (Amazing Bride), Jia Qing (My Wife’s Lies. OK, I must admit I voted for her just because I like her. Haven’t seen the drama, actually LOL).

Note: I wish you had put The Great Pretender in Wallace Huo’s and Jia Qing’s portfolios, Kap, because I thought Wallace was pretty outstanding there and Jia Qing’s performance was pretty good. And that would make my pick for Jia Qing more justifiable, LOL.

    • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

I cannot keep track of a lot of things…. but one thing is for sure, your tendency to rename the drama titles, Lenje!!

LOL @ The Great Pretender. OMG!! XD

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Whaatttt??? Againnn???? *hang my head in shame*

I really should’ve made it into my new year’s resolution: NOT to mix and change names and titles!!! :(((

        • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

It’s funny as heck though, Lenje. 🙂 I’m keeping a list.

        • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

          A list??? I smell something fishy :)))

  7. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

    Nirvana, Disguiser and WuXin…..

  8. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Finally gone through everything…*painting* Hands-up for your hard work on making this poll.
Somehow, I wish I could re-do some choices that I made.
There are simply too many beautiful things happening this year. I graded everything based on this sequence:
    1. Nirvana In Fire
    2. Journey of Flower
    3. The Disguiser
    4. Wuxin (as the underdog): did not anticipate this one but the acting and the plot were solid and original.

    • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

You’re welcome! It took forever to compile the polls and even when we have 11 categories, I wanted more. But of course, I realize I would have to watch more dramas next year as well. Lol.

Hoping for another surprising new year!

  9. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

I love how Zhang Qi Ling (yang yang) from Tomb is an option for “most tragic character” even though nothing’s really happened yet to his character, at least not in the first season/book. I’m guessing he’s listed for the tragedy that is the horrible mess that they made of his character because of the feud between HR and yang yang’s management?

    • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Lol. You caught my drift there, Messengerman. XD

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

ROFLMAO I voted for Yang Yang in this category too hahahahahaha 🙂

Kappy you have a great sense of humor 🙂

      • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Although Zhang Kylin’s whole life is a tragedy (in terms of his character story from the novel)

    • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

LOL but think about it this way: his mess ended up being a good ending because he’s now free of it all and he’s now getting more and more good roles and more and more popular 🙂

  10. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

i easily pick when it comes to BEST ACTOR. Wallace Chung, Wallace Huo, Hu Ge and our Nick Wang Kai.

But overall, Nirvana and The Disguiser, plus My Sunshine and Tornado girl. am i the only one who loves tornado girl???? haha can’t wait for tornado season 2… hope yang yang can join the team <3

nirvana bromance and the disguiser siblings are my faves!!!!!! no one can't beat this one.

  11. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

As much as My Sunshine wasn’t the best drama out there both in production value and interesting supporting cast, but Wallace’s acting was so spot on. The drama hence, hits all the right spot for me.

    • 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

I’ll also add, I wasn’t not even a fan of his before…wait… it’s more like I just never watch any of his other stuff.

  12. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Lol. Nirvana in Fire and Disguised took my votes in each category. My Sunshine made it there for the category of sound track and Wallace Chung as a good actor. I would have voted more for Wuxin if I actually finished the drama but I’m still only 3 episodes in. Song Ning (HXY) and Mei Changsu definitely made my list of the most tragic deaths. It’s only a pity that I gave up on HXY due to the dragging storyline. It just didn’t seem as good as the novel.

Hahah, but I’m happy to see how make votes NiF and Disguiser are getting. I really think they’re the best dramas of the year. NiF has set my standards for dramas and films so high that it is now my most favorite drama. After that comes Disguiser, BBJX, In Time With You, and Prince of Lan Ling.

  13. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

I think Hua Qian Gu is Good drama (it’s prove by how high the rating, even for the rerun), a lot of people are still obsess with this drama, the problem in this drama cause by: a lot of cut scenes (the good one). But still HQG is good drama better than Langya to me. Langya got a second place in my favorite. No offense, everyone can have their opinion and taste of what they like. ?

  14. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

still not in the mood for heavy dramas like nirvana and disguiser, so my votes went for the one i actually watched. but wow! over a thousand votes for favorite dramas already??!!

best dramas: the legend of qin, destined to love you, wu xin the monster killer, and Love Weaves Through a Millennium,

best otp: zhang han and jia qing, li ying and ryan, Gui Gui and Mao Zi Jun

favorite new face: elvis han, ian wang, gina jin, and crystal!

favorite break-out performance: Shu Chang (The Legend of Fragrance). i have to vote for her!! seems like no on watched her performance at all! poor girl!! i will come back tomorrow and vote again!! haha

favorite soundtrack: journey of flower and legend of qin,

best actor: tong da wei, yang yang

best actress: jia qing, zhao li ying, liu tao (cause i like her! splitting the votes!)

  15. 46 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Your Favorite Cdramas of 2015

Woohoo, I voted! Must have split my votes between Nirvana and Disguiser.

By the way, the OST for Go Princess Go is really good. The production team is so poor that they had their own actors sing but it’s surprisingly good.
