Ancient Love Poetry is adapted from the novel Shang Gu (上古) written by Xing Ling starring Zhou Dong Yu and Xu Kai. The story follows one of the four Immortals named Shang Gu who falls into a deep slumber after sacrificing herself in a trial 60,000 years ago. She wakes up with no memories of the past. But someone else hasn’t forgotten about their love, another immortal who waited for her, our male lead played by Xu Kai. Their epic love story undergoes several rounds of life and death (you don’t say).
Head-scratching Synopsis From Wetv: When commoners encounter difficulties, they will pray for Gods, but what if Gods meet obstacles? It tells the deep love and hardship between two of the four true Gods Bai Jue and Shang Gu. With Shang Gu’s growth as basic thread, this magnificent God thrives from humble newbie to the decisive immortal which still couldn’t break the shackle of fate. God lives long and has deep-rooted love. Man would destroy everything for the life of hers, while someone would wait silently for 60 thousand years and finally present her all lives of three realms with his own. Under the broad realm, will she be able to bear this everlasting love that transcends three lives?
Love Never Fails (落花时节又逢君) is adapted from the novel When Spring Ends, I’ll See You Again by Shu Ke. It’s nice to see second male lead reunited with female lead in a new drama as the male lead. 😉 The story follows the journey of our female, a red camellia sprite who falls in love at first sight with the male lead at a Flower Festival. He is not a nobody! He’s one of the greatest gods in heaven. She wants to become his empress and to that request, he tells her to cultivate until she can reach the heavenly/immortal realm. To do that, she enters the human realm to go through a trial. There in the mortal realm, she meets the second male lead, a handsome nobleman who is looking for true love himself. His land oversees the flower field where she’s planted as a Camellia. He wants to renovate the garden and in order to stop him, she turns to her human self at night and begs him not to take away her home. Our second male lead begins to like this strong and independent flower fairy and promises not to ruin her field as long as she comes and hangs with him every night. Even though she confesses to liking someone else, second male lead reaffirms her that it’s okay. His human life doesn’t last long and if he could spend his short years with her, he’s contented, and she can easily go back to the immortal man she’s cultivating for after his death.
Why is that so damn tragically sweet.
Something happens and our second male lead sacrifices himself to save our heroine. She, moved and touched by him, requests the male lead to remove her cultivation thus far and makes her a mortal being, so she can repay second male lead. This begins her ten lifetimes of reincarnation, each one she makes big and small decisions, and bears the results bravely.
Quite like the sound of this female lead from the reviews so far!
Qing Luo (清落) follows our heroine, played by Wang Zi Wei, a talented doctor who gave birth to a boy seven years ago. She begins traveling to search for baby’s daddy and meets a man (Liu Xue Yi) who shares the same face as him. She hates him at first glance due to the resemblance and but begins to open up to him after they go through a series of events together.
Based on the novel written by Shi Si Lang, Love and Redemption (琉璃美人煞) stars Yuan Bing Yan and Cheng Yi as the leading couple. Our heroine is the second daughter to Shaoyang Sect Leader, who is inept in martial arts and described as clueless and weak, in comparison to her capable older sister (Zhang Yu Xi). Therefore, during the annual Martial Arts Competition, while her older sister is sent to represent the sect, younger sister is sent to a cave to reflect and that’s where she meets Lize Palace‘s disciple, our hero, and the two forge a friendship. Elder Sister makes enemy with Wu Long during the competition and he in return, injures our heroine, which motivates her to improve her martial arts in the next four years. Wu Long then betrays the righteous sects and join the evil sects in hopes of taking over jianghu. Our leads now must work together to fight the evil forces. The novel is much more complicated with their past lives being immortal beings who fought the demon a thousands years ago and disappeared.
Ren Jia Lun is back on your small screen with Autumn Cicada (秋蝉)! He stations himself in Hong Kong for the establishment of a military base and an intelligence agency. Then he becomes a spy to collect information from the Japanese. When his two identities clashed and he’s captured, he escapes death with the help of the woman he loves, played by Li Man (after Ying Er bowed out due to pregnancy? I can’t remember the timeline.)
