The Virtual Awards: Vote for Your Favorite Cdramas of 2021

Another year went by! Okay, hear me out, I know this post is long overdue but as you know…I’m the slowest blogger right? I kickstarted this in November and didn’t really work on it until I was down with Covid during New Year that I had time to sit down and finished it. Thanks to everyone who double/triple-checked my work and gave me ideas for the fun categories! We have two this year!

So have fun & please share this post! Who got your hearts and your votes?

Happy New Year! Stay safe, healthy, and happy. 💓 💓 💓

NOTE 1: Only dramas airing between 12/1/2020 – 11/30/2021 were included. I feel it would be unfair to include dramas airing in December since some are still airing or without English Subs. December dramas will be included next year instead.

NOTE 2: Over 200+ Cdramas aired this year and I tried to include as many as I could. Of course I’m not perfect and there will some missing so if you feel that I missed some crucial dramas, let me know! Keep in mind you might have to scroll down a while to see the word “SUBMIT” for some really long categories.

NOTE 3: I decided to go with “FAVORITE” instead of “BEST” because as I realize down the line, one’s BEST dramas might not be everyone cup of tea. Favorite is harmless and right up my alley.

And lastly… two fun categories of this year! =D If you have any wacky ideas for next year’s fun categories, let us know!

Results will be posted in 2 Weeks! 🙂

Every year, it’s the same for me: I thought I watch a lot of dramas but in actuality, I’ve only watched 3 or 4. I guess watching their trailers and following your posts makes me think that I’ve watched them. Haha!

That bowl-of-noodle hair description made my day! I now can’t un-see a bowl of instant noodles.

You’re better than me Annie! I’m the slow watcher of the group….still catching up on dramas that aired a couple of years back!

Same for me, writing posts (and following weibo news) makes me think I have watched a lot of dramas. LOL.

Glad you had a laugh! 😀

Thank you very much, OMG I LOVE these polls! I wish I could select all of them in the Trope and Hairstyles category 😀

2 strand hair cult LOL, seriously I felt so annoyed by those dangling bits I kept wanting to reach into the screen to push the hair out of their faces. It was really annoying because it blocked their facial expressions sometimes and I literally rejoiced when Xu Kai had the all black outfits and all-up hairdo later on because FINALLY I can see his face without the very stiff hair antennas.

Same with Dilraba in Long Ballad! Such a beautiful face and her acting improved so much in Long Ballad, but unfortunately the blood hair kept blowing into her face ESPECIALLY in the action scenes OMG! It was incredibly annoying!

Haha the bit about Ju Jingyi is true too! She’s supposed to be an expert craftsman working with carpentry and other dangerous tools, but she’s got a whole curtain of accessories dangling from her loose hair and into her face. Anyone who’s worked in a workshop knows that’s an occupational hazard waiting to happen!

Trope are the same thing too. Same cliches in almost every drama… I’m OK with tropes if they’re entertaining, but sometimes when they happen for no reason and just in EVERY drama, it gets a bit old…

I didn’t realize I watched so many dramas until I did the poll just now, because I was running out of choices for almost all categories LOL 😀

You can cheat Anon! No one would know. ROFL. 😛

Hey that’s good you watched a lot of dramas. Most of the times, I’m spoiled by plots and pics on weibo cause I follow the news, and then, I don’t want to watch cause I already knew what happened. 🤦‍♀️ So my strategy is to wait a few years before watching the drama, so by then, I forget about the spoilers previously known. It helps that I have the attention span of a 🐠 too. Lol.

Hehe I actually stuck to all the limits for the polls
I guess 5 top best is actually a great balance between variety in choices, but not so many that it defeats the purpose of the poll 🙂

Spoilers are no fun, especially if they’re mystery dramas!
I agree with your strategy — I tend to forget the spoilers after some time too, so if I go back to watch the drama then it’ll be as if it’s new
If I wait long enough, I can even forget the background story, so that helps 🙂

I also have short attention span in dramas
If it doesn’t capture my interest after 1-2 episodes, I’m quick to drop it because I’m so overloaded with work
I can only afford to watch drams in my spare time, but because I’m working mostly from home during the pandemic (we had lockdowns so were not allowed to go anywhere), I watch dramas to pass the time

Work has gotten tougher so we all rely on dramas to keep our sanity. I rely on stalking drama news to pass my time. Lol.

I thought Xiao Zhan looked cool with the 2 strand hair in UT. So did Gong Jun in WOH. They don’t bother me as much as the truly fugly Qing pigtail which should be added to the list.

Missing are these tropes- piggy back rides, falling off cliff, and underwater kissing scenes. Wish drama producers can be informed of these tiresome cliches.

Also Kappy I didn’t know you were sick with COVID! 🙁
I’m really sorry to hear about that, I hope you’re all OK now!
    Stay safe and well everyone!!!

      Thanks for the concern Anon!

I recovered by Day 8 and back to work on Day 9. I slept 13+ hours during the 8 days of quarantine, checking off the covid symptoms one-by-one, except for diarrhea and loss of smell and taste.

      Stay safe A! 💪

Hope you stay safe and are well too, Anon!

Thank you for the post Kappy! Also didn’t know you got Covid and I’m glad you have gotten better!
Hoping where I live we hit the peak and it will go down soon (hope the cases will go down for other countries too)
Anyhow, I’ve gotten so busy due to short-staff, so I don’t remember what I even watched lol All these names with their vague familiarities… But I did vote for the weird hairstyles 😀 I remembered the promos for some of them

Staff shortages is no joke. 🙁 The vaccine mandate chopped 10% of staffing, then this recent surge = half of our staff were out these couple of weeks as the virus made its round in my department.

I didn’t watch any 2021 dramas so I can only vote in the trope and hairstyle as well. =P

Please take care of your health too Choco! Hydrate, sleep, and eat well!

          Thanks Choco!
Yes it’s been really tough for us at work too, because my colleagues have been falling sick
We’re quite understaffed and we still have backlog of work to do from before Christmas…

I really miss the pre-COVID days when we didn’t have to worry about the contagion all the time
This COVID has made life a million times more stressful than it already is
Even worse is so many people dying every day
It’s like living in the middle of the apocalypse…

I’m watching drama to keep me sane…

I’m glad to hear you’re recovering well, Kappy!
This COVID pandemic is so terrible…
I know so many people who got sick with COVID and it was so worrying, but luckily they were vaccinated and they recovered well…

They also described similar symptoms that you did, but except with the sense of taste/smell, it was different depending on the person.
I hope you have recovered your taste/smell and also from all your other symptoms!
        Blessings to you and everyone!

        • 18 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Vote for Your Favorite Cdramas of 2021

Thanks A! Most of my symptoms are gone! Only mild congestion is all.

I laughed hard at your description of Li Chun’s hair in Delicious Romance but hey, at least it fit the character. The two strand hair trend is just awful. Even Xu Fengnian in Snow Sword Stride didn’t escape from it.

Most of my votes just had to go to The Imperial Coroner!

    • 18 thoughts on “The Virtual Awards: Vote for Your Favorite Cdramas of 2021

I didn’t put Zhang Ruo Yun on the poll because it didn’t look that bad to me (compared to the other boys) and by then the 2-strand hair cult is dominating the poll. Lol!

Imperial Coroner seems to be well-loved. It is on my to-watch list. ^_^

    Sorry, I cheated.

Select ALL for the drama tropes and ugly hair. They were all UGLY AF. LOL

    Thanks for the fun polls!

What do you think?
