First Impression: The Journey of Legend Episode 1 – 8

If you had asked me at the start of 2025 what my top 3 most anticipated Cdramas would be, I would have told you it’s Journey of Legend, Immortal Ascension, and Dark River. Immortal Ascension came and gone. (It was fun, read my review here) Now here comes The Journey of Legend. I still say they should keep the title as ‘To The Mountain and Seas‘, it’s just cooler. Because the Jianghu is the Rivers and Lakes, so To The Mountain and Seas would be fitting. But at last, we ended up with a typical title.

Never mind that, after what felt like the longest wait ever, it’s finally here! And with it, my early impression review.

After years of hemming and hawing, Cheng Yi’s The Journey of Legend finally gets an airdate

Okay, I exaggerated in the post title, but you guys get what I mean right? I feel very fortunate at the moment because I have a new drama to watch on the heel of wrapping up Moonlit Reunion (I’m in the last 3 episodes!) Woooohoooo!! <3<3<3 And I’m so excited to see some TVB actors back in the 90s and 2000s starring as some of the wuxia masters! A great callback to the time when they were the young wuxia heroes.

The Journey of Legend (赴山海) is adapted from the novel Shen Zhou Qi Xia written by Wen Rui An.

Per Qiyi: It tells the story of Xiao Mingming, an ardent fan of martial arts novels and a mediocre man hit by the cruel reality. He travels across the martial world through the perspective of Xiao Qiushui, the protagonist of his novel, growing from a young impulsive swordsman with subpar skills to a reliable and emotionally-open hero who protects his family and country. Since then, Xiao Mingming never forgets to keep writing in his spare time, continuously conveying the belief that people’s hearts are united by righteousness through his novels.

Filming Wrapped: Bai Yu and Zhou Yu Tong’s Swords into Plowshares, Ren Jia Lun and Wang He Run’s The Perfect Match

Hope everyone had a peaceful Lunar New Year! I was busy taking a recovering-from-multiple-viruses toddler to visit the relatives. You really don’t know how life will change with kids until it hits you in the face point-blank. Haven’t had time to browse the web much! Both dramas finished filming this past week and I’m intrigued seeing Bai Yu in historical costumes! I have a soft spot for this man. <3

Hu Bing Qing and Zhai Zi Lu work together as detectives to solve murder cases Under the Moonlight

Under the Moonlight (锦囊妙录) is another “Moon” drama this year so far. 😛

Synopsis Per Youku: Young girl Luo Shu was sold to a brothel as her family went broke. However, because of her kindness and acumen, she earned the nickname “Jinnang”. During this time, she met Qi Menglin, a young nobleman who wanted to make a name in the martial world. Luo Shu was good at solving bizarre cases. As ten notorious murder cases took place one after another, including the gruesome “Headless Woman Case”, the eerie “Fenhe River Corpse Case”, and the treacherous “Winery Murder Case”, Luo Shu and Qi Menglin did everything they could to bring justice to the helpless women involved. Go to the Mountains and Sea with Cheng Yi and Guli Nazha wraps up filming

Go to the Mountains and Sea (赴山海) wrapped up filming a few days ago and has dropped quite a bulk of posters/stills and a wrap-up special video. If you were like me following the promos, I’m happy to report that this drama…..has other characters! LOL.

In any case, it’s adapted from the novel written by Wen Rui An and follows our modern man who loves wuxia novels and finds himself a young protagonist in the wuxia world, learning fighting skills and eventually becoming a hero in his own right, fueled by righteousness and loyalty for his people and country.

Dou Luo Continent (Soul Land) with Xiao Zhan and Wu Xuan Yi begins airing today ~

It was rumored, but never confirmed, and here it is. Lol.

Let me copy and paste what I wrote last year: Dou Luo Continent is an adaptation of the Chinese web novel of the same name written by Tang Jia San Shao. Our hero is Tang San, considered a prodigy in the Tang Sect, a sect specializing in poisons and weapons. He commits suicide after entering the forbidden place for inner sect disciples and gaining the knowledge of the Sect. He feels guilty and kills himself, but is reborn in Soul Land (title of the novel), with his memories intact (dun, dun, dun). In the new land, he is raised by an alcoholic father and remains tenacious in mastering new skills. In Soul Land, each individual possesses an innate spirit, which one can cultivate and strengthen, becoming a Spirit Master, a well-regarded profession. Our hero has two.
