I included mostly trailers. If a drama didn’t have any trailers, I included posters. Video-heavy post so may take a few seconds longer to load.

After what felt like a decade, my boy Yang Yang has returned to the Ancient Drama genre, and this time, it’s an adaptation of a web novel/donghua, of the same name, more or less. I’ve heard the source material was epic, but who knows. I’m here to review this adaptation only.
So, The Immortal Ascension, I’m 19 episodes in so far as of this review. The last time I wrote one of these review, it was for a dumb drama that I hated as much as the hate I got for hating it. But let’s not go there. How is Immortal Ascension so far? Well, in short, it’s good, so far. I’m enjoying it. Enough to write an early impression.

The Immortal Ascension (凡人修仙传) is adapted from the novel written by Wang Yu. It follows the story of an ordinary boy who goes on a dangerous road of cultivation to become an immortal. After seeing the trailers, I had this familiar feeling in terms of directing and checked out the director. Sure enough, it’s Yang Yang, the female director in charge of Ever Night, and was also in charge of some beautifully done dramas; Imperfect Victim, A Dream of Splendor, etc.
Airing 7/27~

Zhan Zhao Adventures (雨霖铃) is adapted from the novel written by MiniFish, a re-interpretation of the classic novel The Seven Heroes and Five Gallants. The story follows our heroine in the her fearless journey to escape an arranged marriage and meeting the classic hero in Zhan Zhao, who’s been on the run himself with incriminating evidence for a case.
Filming wrapped 2/19~

Looks like our Gege’s costume, no?

Filming wrapped up in December of last year.

Aren’t they cute? I started this post last week… and kinda got http://www.gulfportpharmacy.com/ side-tracked with other stuff. Most of the dramas aired already. Lol. XD

Adapted from the novel written by Qing Ling Yue. For the extensive spoilers of novel, please head over to one of our prior posts written by Iridescent here. Are you excited? Cause I am! I know Lu Si is the quite adorable in romcom and she has done many projects with bubbly female characters so it’s nice to see her in a serious role! Love the hairstyles they gave her in here. *pleasebegoodpleasebegood*
Tencent describes the drama briefly: A legendary wuxia romance that focuses on the decade-long romance between Hei Feng Xi and Bai Feng Xi, and the adventures they embark on together.
Airing 4/18!
