Shawn Dou’s drama From Survivor to Healer drops new trailer, hinting at approaching broadcast

Shawn Dou Xiao‘s latest modern drama From Survivor to Healer (爱上你治愈我) might be the first to air (bought by YouKu)! Survivor reunites him with several friends; Miao Miao, who played Xiao Qi in Princess Agents, Tribes and Empire: Storms of Prophecy’s costar Peng Guan Ying who plays the third leg, and director Cao Dun from Tribes too. The story doesn’t seem anything extraordinary; he falls in love with the heroine in medical school but their families encounter unfortunate events, forcing our hero to avoid the love of his life and she decides to study abroad in Germany. Five years later, their teacher refers both of them to work at a hospital, allowing our hero to slowly win back his lady love, but she only softens as her mother undergoes medical treatments and he remains at her side. Peng Guan Ying develops feelings for the heroine but she rejects him cleanly. Then one day our hero discovers that his mom died eight years ago because of a car accident and is thrown into self-blame, doubting his career achievements, only recovering with the help of his love. The two later decide to pursue more education in Germany, forgoing marriage.

I know the plot is typical but the new trailer suggests some gripping dramatic performances from the leads and supporting cast.

To be honest, I just miss his brighter-than-my-future smile onscreen. xD

Teresa Teng, I Only Care About You confirms Michelle Chen, Peter Ho

This news first came out months ago but as we approach the starting date, confirmations are in. I know Michelle Chen wanted to be a singer at first and even released an album before called Me, Myself, and I. She also sang a few songs for her movies and dramas; one that I’m fond of is her duet with now-hubby Chen Xiao for Yu Zheng’s Romance of the Condor Heroes. As for Taiwanese pop singer Teresa Teng, the talented singer passed away when she was only 42 in 1995 and this drama plans on showcasing the growth of her life and career in three stages as she hit the limelight, then stepped into bigger stages outside of Taiwan, and finally her days as she attempted to return to normalcy.

Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy Discussion Post Week 7: Episodes 73 – 75 “Finale.”

I’ve been reading a lot of discussion since the last post about Tribes and Empires running out of money (true!) and who’s to blame. A lot of rumors. It’s hard to say. This is director Cao Dun’s first venture into ancient fantasy series so he is ambitious and has an artistic vision and didn’t realize many costly things. It’s hard to entirely blame him because he’s well-loved by the cast and we were all wow-ed by the first trailer Tribes dished out. Weren’t we? At least now many realize a good drama isn’t just about the directing but a combination of directing, writing, and acting. Whether or not Huang Xuan’s scenes were cut, we can’t verify, but I did watch Zhou Zi Wei’s interview where he admitted that he shot the drama and then was told they could only give him so much and he replied that he didn’t need to be paid because acting out emotional turbulence like Shuo Feng in itself is a mark in his acting career. The opportunity cannot be exchanged for money. So everyone in the cast suffers in one way or another, not just any one actor.

If they are lucky to get funding for another season, let this first season be a good lesson for the production company about budget management (!!).

Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy Discussion Post Week 6: Episodes 61 – 72

So we only have one more week of Tribes and Empires totaling 75 episodes because they only shot up to Huang Xuan’s ascension to the throne. What will they do from here? I don’t know because it’s not a small project. The novel writer wrote on his weibo that he has big dreams for Tribes (on the level of Attack on Titan and Lord of the Rings) but the project lacks funding so he’s looking for ka-ching!

As of 12/26, the drama online views have hit 7 billions. 😀 Hunan has also sucked it up and will air Tribes starting 12/29 on TV.
