Well! After two months of filming, we finally have some posters to look at. Novoland: Eagle Flag (九州缥缈录) is the next drama set in the vast magical universe “Novoland”. The author, Jiang Nan, along with Jin He Zai (Tribes), is one of the original writers who created the universe and he has been working on the drama script with another person. I’m quite excited about this production since I’m fond of both of the leads, who are very young in dramaland: Liu Hao Ran is 20 this year and Song Zu Er (The Dark Lord) is only 19, same age as one of my bros. Lol. Eagle Flag follows the epic, sweeping story of three youths who found comfort in each other’s company during the vicissitudes of life and power struggles between empires, with Hao Ran playing a weak and sickly prince who is sent away….as a hostage in another land, where he meets a brave and untamed warrior (Chen Ruo Xuan) and a witty princess (Zu Er). Their story of struggle, growth, love, and friendship unleash into a heroic journey of sorts.
The hostage part sounds familiar to our dear Yan Xun? Because this is where Princess Agents novel writer picked up the threads for her main story. Lol.
Another youth drama, focusing on college life! Leading Beyond Light Years (初遇在光年之外), is Chen Ruo Xuan (Evil Minds) and Josie Xu Jiao (Ice Fantasy). The rest of the cast members look quite cute and and fitting, as they are born in the early 90s. Not to make you feel old or anything. I feel it first. XD
Man, this is why smaller productions get little promotions, their promotional materials suck! Not a lot of pretty stills and a whole extended trailer to spoil your viewing experience (well, this aspect isn’t new but still!). Here is another period drama with a revenge theme, for those of you who prefer this subject. Nothing new. In Distressed Beauty(卿本佳人), our heroine (Jia Qing) comes from a rich family but her family is murdered in one day, leaving her and younger sis to fend for themselves. In her poor state, she meets and falls in love with a well-meaning man (Chen Ruo Xuan). Unfortunately, once she finds clues related to her family massacre, she marries into the enemy’s lair, setting herself up with their dumb son (Kim Jung Hoon), who isn’t quite what he appears to be, while pre-marriage boyfriend gets attacked and turns his life around to become a pirate. LOL! I swear he designed himself after Captain Sparrow.
