First Impression: What do you think of Novoland: Eagle Flag with Liu Hao Ran and Song Zu Er?
I’m on vacation and they decide to air this (7/16)…. Without much fuss….oh well. What can we do?
There will be weekly discussion of this series. One thing I enjoy is going back and reading the comments, especially that of The Journey of Flower. LOL.

Novoland: Eagle Flag (九州缥缈录) is the next drama set in the vast magical universe “Novoland”. The author, Jiang Nan, along with Jin He Zai (Tribes), is one of the original writers who created the universe and he has been working on the drama script with another person. Eagle Flag follows the epic, sweeping story of three youths who find comfort in each other’s company during the vicissitudes of life and intense power struggles, with Hao Ran playing a weak and sickly prince who is sent away….as a hostage in another land, where he meets a brave and untamed warrior (Chen Ruo Xuan) and a witty princess (Zu Er). Their story of struggle, growth, love, and friendship unleash into a heroic journey of sorts.

I saw comments online that many of the Chinese fans were too scared to make a big commotion about it in case it got pulled again. None of the tv stations went big on promo either and the episodes were released. Some of the c-netizens are already complaining that the characters are changed too much from the book. While fans who haven’t read the novel are enjoying it more.
Unfortunately, I’m too busy to watch right now but I’ll be keeping an eye on all the reviews.

I’ve watched 8 episodes so far. First two episodes is a mess. Bizarre editing and pacing – hard to figure out what’s going on as scenes shift back and forth in a very chaotic manner. Starting episode 3 and onwards, it gets a lot better. The story and pacing is in sync. All the main characters meet up and you’re introduced to the secondary characters (royal family, etc..) as well. One thing that really stood out is the visuals. The costumes and scenery are superb. Breathtaking view of the landscapes. And the costumes look so exquisite almost makes me want to try it on myself lol..
P.S. – Raw episodes are already out on maplestage.

I haven’t read the novel and I like what I saw so far. Many people commented that the first 2 episodes were chaotic. They weren’t for me. The scenes made sense to me, but I must say, even without reading the novel, I could predict the story line and the twists coming my way -thanks to decades of drama watching. I am just hoping this doesn’t flop halfway through like what happened to Tribes and Empires.

The first two episodes condensed the entire book 1 plot, so many book fans feel the pace was too fast. I do wish they had fleshed out Lv Guichen earlier life and the tribe’s life a bit more but I also understood why they had to wrap things quickly. Personally I didn’t think episode 1 & 2 were chaotic, I enjoyed the story well and the pace was quick making you can’t stop binging the next episode and the next.. However they really should have gone for a child actor for young Lv Guichen scenes. On another note, the visuals in HD were absolutely stunning. Definitely worth the USD 72 million invested.

Definitely enjoying the series, I’m currently on episode 11 and wish subs could come out sooner!! I don’t want to watch it raw because it would take away some of the surprise for me if I don’t understand the dialogues completely.

This drama really took me by surprise. I went into it completely blind and fell in love with it. The cast, music and scenery are amazing. I even got my mother hooked, while she was visiting me, even though she is not a fan of long dramas.
There were some inconsistencies, but I put this down to either something being cut out or not being filmed because of the limited length of the drama.
I do hope we won´t have the typical love triangle, especially with the happenings in ep 20..but I rather hope Lu Gui Chen finds someone else or ends up alone, as he didn´t seem to be really interested in Yu Ran and there were more interactions between her and Ji Ye. But we have 46 more episodes left..so I am looking forward to being more surprised by this drama.

Can’t comment yet as I am still waiting for it to come to YouTube but I’m just relieved we are getting this drama at all.
