War movie, The Founding of An Army (建军大业), is the third part of the trilogy called Founding of New China, followed by The Founding of a Republic (2009), The Founding of a Party (2011), intended to be released this summer to mark the anniversary of the Chinese army (90th anniversary). The movie gathers 40+ stars in main roles and guest appearances, including both veteran actors and fresh meat, led by Zhu Ya Wen (as Zhou En Lai), Liu Ye (as Mao Zedong), Oho Ou (as Ye Ting), Ma Tian Yu, Liu Hao Ran and Ma Yi Li. The story begins in 1927 at the beginning of the Nanchang uprising, known as the first major Kuomintang–Communist engagement.
The endless scrolling of pretty begins…. hehehe. (It took me an hour to get all the names. Lol!)

That’s a SERIOUSLY star studded cast! Wow. Just wow. Despite the setting and genre of the film, I just might check it out.

Exciting cast and director but this is obviously going to be government propaganda. One of the reasons I had to drop Rookie Agent Rogue was because the second half turned into poorly written preachy propaganda about how awesome the Communist Party is. Hopefully this movie is entertaining propaganda at least.
I know she is popular but they should have cast a more age appropriate actress for Guan Xiaotong’s role. She’s 19 playing the husband of a 32 year old!

In the Name of the People, the CCP must eradicate pervasive corruption or will end up like the KMT in 1949.

Holy Cow! Looks like every single fresh meat is in here, most will play minor role…but it’s like finding nemo, all your favorite people.
I definitely agree it’s a propaganda drama, like most republican themed dramas with their preach and stuff. Will be nice to look at is all.
And awwww thanks Kappy for giving everyone a name. I think you’re the only one who translated all the names or at least majority of the cast every time. Appreciate that!! 🙂

WHAT how was it possible to have all these stars in one drama?!?!?!
Only complaint is what is Guan Xiaotong doing in here???

ZHU YA WEN!!! Honestly, compared to the previous Founding dramas, this cast pales in comparison. I won’t call it star-studded; it just looks like an idol drama. Not a strong cast considering that this is a movie. I agree also that Guan Xiao Tong is way too young for her role. I’m also very surprised that there are quite a couple of Taiwanese actors in this too. I mean, given the propaganda nature of this drama and the political undertones, I didn’t think that they’ll cast any TW actors.

taiwan is part of china so why would they boycott taiwanese actors

If anything, I think the way they added TW actors fits their “One China” propaganda perfectly. I’m just a little surprised the actors themselves accepted, given that over half of the Taiwanese people reject being part of China (according to one survey anyway, based on a Taipei Times report). Maybe they just don’t care about potentially pissing off their fans back home?

Exactly what I was thinking. Agreeing to act in this drama means that they are showing their support for One China which won’t sit well with the Taiwanese. I understand that quite a couple of them are making their bank in Mainland China, but I’d thought that they’ll stay quiet on this.

Founding of the Republic has a bigger star-studded cast from Daniel Wu to Leehom Wang, Fan Bingbing to Zhou Xun.

Taiwanese actor Chang Chen as well.

Wallace Huo acted as Chiang Kaishek (based on the poster) so…

Wonder if Taiwan actors Joe Cheng and Tony Yang feel awkward participating in this drama.

I think if they want to keep making their money in China, they don’t really have a choice.

No doubt there will be propaganda themes but I just hope it’s subtle and entertaining LoL. The cast is amazing though.

RAY AND ASHTON!!! <3
And yay for everyone else lol.
Wallace's face cracked me up xD But I guess that hairstyle works since he went bald for Ruyi lol.

Honestly I don’t know how they pack that many stars in one movie. Most of them will probably only cameo, so it’s gonna be a fun guessing game while watching it: oh, that’s Wallace! Oh, it’s Ma Tianyu!
It will most likely contain propaganda, but like somebody said earlier, hopefully the director(s) and writers are smart enough to make it subtle. I was also a little disturbed with the propaganda in Rookie, it did take away some of the fun. Luckily I really like the actors, and they did play the characters well, so I could dismiss it.

Li Yifeng looks like he comes back from war safely and is happy to see his wife and son waiting for him lol. Luhan and William Chan have filmed for this as well, so more to come~
Looking forward to this! Agree with everyone’s opinion about Guan Xiaotong though.

I cringed too much when watching Rookie Agent because of the strong propaganda theme.
