At this rate, I think every actor in Mainland China would have produced one drama in their career. It’s like an unwritten rule for starters. I hope they would tip me off, where should I dig and how much must I have for one production? 😀 Correct me if I’m wrong but Incisive Great Teacher is Nicky’s second production? First one was The Bride With White Hair, in which he also played the lead character. Have you ever wondered why an actor-turned-producer wants to play the lead in their own productions? Ruby Lin, Michelle Ye, Hawick Lau, etc… Are they unwilling to have someone else play their imagined role? My theory: Some actors are generous in allowing others to shine while others are hesitant to cast someone less famous/unknown. In that respect, we have to give Yu Zheng points for launching many stars to their celebrity status. That’s basically the only thing I admire about him. Wait, I lied, and his ability to take jokes about his own productions. I’m telling you, weibo is very fun if you know what fans are saying. 😛
So what’s this drama about? The premise reminds me of Dicky Cheung‘s ancient romantic comedy, Smart Kid, in 2001 with Li Bing Bing. Here we have something new in that the government has agreed to educate women, allowing them to join the men at schools. However, there’s a group of people (pigs!) who silently protests about the idea and cause many incidents to happen on the campus of Royal Academy (the name is google translated since I can’t translate the Chinese characters, forgive.) In comes our mysterious wanderer, Liu Ao Tian (Nicky Wu), as he disguises as a Professor. Thanks to his ingenuity, the academy prospers, successfully admitting a herd of students with quirks and status. After jamming heads a few times with Lu Yun Fei (Liu Shi Shi) on several occasions, our couple meets again on campus because she’s also signed up to be a Professor (stalker?) And thus begins their bickering dynamic as they solve conflicts and become closer to the students as well as to each other.
The third wheel in their relationship is played by Huo Zheng Yan, also a professor at the said academy. Heh. With all these love shooting going on in the staff room, I wonder whether they have time to teach the students? Because we have a mob of naughty kids, leading them are Song Wen Wen (Gui Gui) and Fan Da Tong (Ye Zu Xin).
At the same time, Liu Ao Tian discovers a hidden hand in the academy that has been stirring troubles all along. He promises to find the culprit despite putting himself in the face of danger.

yea i agree, most actors want to be the lead in their own productions because they believe they are the best candidate even though sometimes the character’s age is a bit of a stretch. what can i say, people want the best for themselves! imagine getting to pick your own wardrobe and hair. XD

Yeah I always pegged Nicky as acting a more serious character than this one, but I’m willing to give it a try cuz he may just surprise me and maybe by trying something new, he does an even better job than before?
This will be his 3rd time pairing up with Liu Shi Shi. After Bu Bu Jing Xin, there’s a huge fanbase for the Nicky/LSS pairing, so he’s banking on that since his Bride with White Hair series was a flop.
I think many actors/producers enjoy having control over your own production, which is totally understandable – who doesn’t want to be their own boss? Just like how Ruby Lin became a successful producer while playing lead at the same time – she made $$$ and got great reviews for her productions (earning awards and everything). She got to pick the script, the actors, and had control over the styling/costumes, etc. It’s a lot of work but it gives a lot of control.
Wallace Huo is now producing and starring in his own production and they even got Tong Hua to write an original script – guaranteed fanbase right there! And he’s working with Tang Yan again as his female lead, who he paired up with very successfully back in Chinese Paladin 3.

Uh, I wonder how far were these still PS-ed???? I hope Nicky can pull off the youngling look onscreen. For that, I’m not so sure. It may shock you how far I criticize Nicky and/or his projects since I’ve had a crush on him for the longest time. Ouch! Reading the title of his first production still hurts me. The point of near non-existence. Did anyone like The Bride With White Hair at all?
Maybe my eye sight is playing tricks on me. Is that royal yellow? Is there some kind of tie in this? Wasn’t that color strictly reserved for royalty back then?

Yeah I quite like Nicky so I was so shocked by the travesty that was Bride with White Hair. I tried to check it out and I couldn’t even get past the first ep. Especially since I think the female lead was totally miscast (the original Bride with White Hair I saw had Brigette Lin as the lead, so it’s hard to top that) and I just couldn’t get into it at all…
I’m not sure about the color being royal yellow … I heard that back then yellow was reserved for royalty but was it for a specific shade of yellow, or all yellow colors full stop?

The Bride with White Hair. I honestly think he should’ve picked a different project for his first production. A remake can only generate somuch discussion (unless he’s Yu Zheng and is out to create controversy.)
These stills are definitely photoshopped but be glad that it’s not Yu Zheng’s production stills. For Female Prime Minister, they basically enlarge Zhao Li Ying’s eyes to a size I thought she was a fish. Everyone here still looks great and recognizable. Even Nicky has smooth skin, which he doesn’t. 😛
