The King’s Woman Discussion Post Week 6: Episode 31 – 36

One of my least favorite tropes in dramas…female lead getting tortured. Have you noticed, it’s always the girls getting tortured by the men they love! Can’t you hide her in a secluded pretty prison cell and have cotton candy together?

I find myself starting to skip past all the intrigue and just going to all the Zhang Bin Bin scenes. But do also enjoy watching Liu Chang’s fight scenes. Liking him here much better than in Novoland.

I don’t watch this, but you bet I read the discussions on various forums, LOL. I still don’t get the majority rooting for Ying Zheng – Gong Sun Li’s romance, and painting her poor martial brother (and the father of her son) a sort of the third wheel. He was her first love, she brought herself to the palace under threat and regardless of how well Ying Zheng treats her, she’s still practically a captive. Yes, I understand that as a royal, she now doesn’t have the liberty to go wherever she wants (or does whatever she likes), she should behave and act according to the protocol. And what good does it make to her, and her people? Don’t forget that she’s not a Qin, she’s from another state which Ying Zheng aims to invade and conquer. Her being in the palace on her own is practically a treason against her own country, and she’s a fighter — fighters are expected to defend their countries more than ordinary people. She was raised in those values. I wonder when Ying Zheng starts the move to go into her motherland, what her stance will be.

I agree. I couldn’t watch this drama without cringing with the events of the storyline. He’s basically ‘forcing’ her to like him and I wouldn’t be surprised if her feelings for him are misplaced and results of Stockholm syndrome. It certainly seems like it to me, which is the reason why I can’t endorse the drama. Plus all the background political machinations were too complicated to be watched by a layman. It gets boring and drags the plot out if you’re not into that.

These last few episodes though I’m now wishing she’d just suddenly run off with Li Tai.

What do you think?
