It just dawned on me that Zhao Li Ying’s character name is also Wu Xin. Could the two Wu Xins star in a drama together? PLEASE? I’m so excited about Zu! I hope it doesn’t disappoint. I don’t expect it to be great but please don’t be another Journey to Flower, is all I’m asking! Lol. The 15-minute trailer really sets up the foundation of the story and lets us into the reason behind Papa Wu’s revenge.
**UPDATE: 9.20.15: ADDED FULL ENDING THEME SONG!
Full Ending Theme Song with Zhao Li Ying & Andy Hui:
Trailer:
- A Revised Version (by zlidia and me) of the Synopsis: The Zhu sect has been a powerful and righteous leader in the martial arts world for some time. To save the world from the evil that is Lu Pao (Nicky Wu), the sect leader of Shu places a magical blood stone inside the body of our hero, Ding Yin (William Chan) in order to enhance his already gifted talents. As a result, Ding Yin stays at Zhu Mountain, working on building and controlling his powers. In a chance encounter, he meets Lu Pao’s daughter, Yu Wu Xin (Zhao Li Ying), who is the spitting image of his deceased wife (Xiao Yu). They initially use each other – she wants to steal the blood demon, and he wants to use her to get to her father. Unfortunately, close proximity brews feelings and complicates everything else. Things build up to many majestic battles between the good and evil sects involving betrayal, sacrifices, and deaths. Possessed by the Blood Demon, Ding Yin is able to kill Lu Pao, leaving Wu Xin heartbroken. Her love turns to hatred and hatred breeds vengeance.
- Our heroine, Yu Wu Xin (Zhao Li Ying), is raised coldly by her father (Nicky Wu) to serve one purpose – take revenge against Zhu Sect for causing her mother’s death. He goes as far as poisoning her so that if she ever develops feelings for anyone, she will undergo immense pain. She’s sent to Ding Yi (William Chan)’s side to retrieve the Blood Demon – think of it as the ultimate evil source. Reminds ya’ll of something?? Lol.
- In the trailer, we are introduced to the rising resentment of junior disciple Lu Pao against senior brother, who is picked to become the next Sect Leader of Shu Mountain. To make matters worst, the current sect leader apparently prefers the senior brother and completely ignores Lu Pao’s various contributions. Sensing his uncleaned heart, Sect leader maims Lu Pao’s left arm and imprisons him, citing his selfishness and greediness as unfit to be Zhu Sect Leader. Lu Pao finds this unjust and tries to obtain the Blood Demon to rule the world. At last, he is unsuccessful and his wife dies in the process. He vows to take revenge – blood for blood.
- After being possessed, Ding Yin also lost his memories. Only a face haunts his mind, he tells Zhou Qing Yun (Janice Man), a disciple at Zhu Mountain about it. “I only remember one face but the owner of that face now wants to kill me.” She likes him and tells him to look forward to a new future at Zhu Mountain.
- The Legend of Zu will premiere on Anhui on January 15th, 2016.

After watching the trailer I’m just confused. Just how many times does the blood stone get ripped out? Hope series is much better than trailer.

In the original series from tvb, the stone is a living being, it controls the person it possesses. Doesn’t look like anyone successfully remove it from his being even if its outside. The stone itself has to relent the possession.
The fighting looks not too bad. Im ready for you Wu Xin!!!

I’m pumped up about the Legend of Zu (mainly because of William and ZLY’s off-the-chart chemistry), but I have zero knowledge about the story. Any suggestion where I can read the synopsis, in English?
The previous trailer excites me more than this new 15 mins trailer. I also have a feeling I will probably like Nicky’s character more than the protagonists. Do I have a good reason for that?
And yessshh to Wu Xins square starring in a drama together — better yet, as the OTP!

Please please please, can anyone tell me if it’s a happy ending for our OTP?

Past two adaptations ended badly for the couple. The reason why it is such a fantastic story is because of the action, supernatural and romance themes and because the romance ended badly, it left a great impact on ppl – especially during a time when most dramas have happy endings. Now Asian dramas are more willing to go for sad endings in exchange for good and realistic story lines. Be prepared for bitter sweet ending! This should not deter you from watching this though. It is a good story.

Actually can someone also tell me if Xiao Yu and Wu Xin are the same person? I’m kind of confused. Sigh…I hope iqiyi isn’t the only source for Legend of Zu this September…

Oops, sorry ladies. I will repost the revised synopsis. I hope it’s a good ending (quite unlikely if they follow the synopsis released from the beginning) because the other two adaptations did not have a happy ending.
Julianne, they are two different people. Wu Xin is the spitting image of dead wife and hence she uses that face to get close to Ding Yi.

Thanks, Kap! I forgot that you had posted the synopsis earlier :). I like that part that the two leads intends to use each other, but end up love another. I look forward to seeing how the complexities are laid out!

LOL good call! I agree with the cat’s expression and I totally think Shifu got off WAAAAAY too easy in the drama WTF. The novel had the better ending with making Shifu suffer big time before finding Xiaogu again MWAHAHAHAHA. Sha Jiejie flew out from his beauty sleep and stole Xiaogu away to protect her from Shifu’s evil clutches hahahahaha (why didn’t this happen in the drama dammit)

LOL this series doesn’t feel anything like the original novel it’s supposedly based on. It’s like the scriptwriters saw Ancient Sword and Hua Qiangu and decided to mash bits and pieces from them together and voila – Legend of Zu drama.
I mean c’mon, they even changed the sect to Kunlun and the whole deal with an evil blood demon implanted in a disciple of Kunlun and then there’s this thing with Ding Yi struggling to control the internal demon … doesn’t this all seem so familiar?
ROFL well at least it looks pretty and I like the cast 🙂
I’ll give it a watch when it comes out but I’ll just not expect it be anything like the book LOL

The Sect is still Zu Mountain in the trailer, I didn’t update mine. =P
There are similarities but Zu novels are the original, right (you told me this Miss Shimo!)? In the old tvb versions, the blood demon jumps from body to body too and the possessed person must learn to control it (most failed to do so.)
All in all, I think the themes in Wuxia dramas are very similar to each other – the big ones: evil vs good, chasing/protecting the ultimate Kung fu manual/powerful swords, nature vs nurture, born good/evil, etc.

Oh yeah, Zu is definitely the original. It’s the one that started it all, just like Lord of the Rings started the whole epic fantasy thing. Zu is the originator of the fantasy wuxia genre so that’s why I really want to see a good adaptation of the novel, one that stays true to it and all…
There are bound to be similarities in wuxia cuz it’s the same genre, but with the masters like Jin Yong, Gu Long, Liang Yusheng – they make each story unique and their characters memorable while keeping to the conventions, and that’s something we rarely see these days. Not to mention the language level of these masters are 1000000000000000x better than the new popular novels that all the drama producers are adapting. Zu is an epic masterpiece, in not only the story, characters, history, but also the language/prose. Like, Hua Qiangu and Taekwondo Girl are decent reads (story), but the prose is terrible. Like elementary school level prose.
It’s the same deal with English literature. All the so called bestsellers these days are so similar, and I can’t believe tripe like 50 Shades of Shit and Twilight are bestsellers. Seriously what is the world coming to. I know 12 year olds who can write better than that.

The prose is incomparable! The masters set the bar very high for writers these days and age.
50 shades – I don’t understand the hype at all. My girlfriends be dragging their BFs to watch the movie… The topic doesn’t interest me. XD

ZLY looks good on her part. I like how her smiles scream evilness and scheming. I’m not sure about the main lead’s character though, it wasn’t shown much in the trailer. It’s like he’s just there waiting for the blood stone to get ripped from his body.

Ahhh, Zhao Li Ying is my absolute favourite. She’s perfection. There’s something so endearing about her singing voice, it’s not particularly good, but it’s soft, gentle, and goes with the tune/beat kinda like Selena Gomez (not that I’m a fan of her, but her music is catchy). Love love this song!!
