Another drama comes to an end! One tough summer we had. I hope you enjoyed this one. I’m also trying to put together a team to provide subtitles for this drama, so if you can help in any way, please contact me!
Time to get married?
Chinese dramas are so excessive with the suffering and rarely gives the OTP some happy times….even a kiss happened at the last hour.

Don’t like the men’s hairstyles and clothes of this period.

Wow, just respect the period and culture of the time. The focus is on the story and journey. A seriously underrated drama probably given the “hairstyles and clothes”.

Subtitles would be much appreciated. What I was able to figure out from recaps and forum posts, I loved!

BHWHAwhawhawha, LOL the last few epidsodes were very boring! I lost my bet, but at least it was really good from 1-70. I didn’t really understand what happened at the end but I don’t think the closure was done very well.
Yes I would love eng subs very much, thank you so much Kap!

the whole show just sort of fizzled out towards the end.. if you meant the ending (SPOILERS) that guy Wu Ze was caught while trying to assassinate the Empress Dowager and he ran into the room where Zhou Ying was, so to save the Wu family (because Wu Ze was the eldest son of the Wu Family and assassination meant capital punishment for the whole Wu family according to the laws of that time) Xing Yi disguised himself as the assassin instead (they wore same clothes) and sacrificed himself.. super disappointed with the ending…… the only consolation was that Xing Yi was his unyielding self even at the end of his life, he’s really the only char whom is consistent throughout the entire show even as he gradually grew up and matured along the way.. he deserved a better ending.. T___T

Oh, that is sad then. I didn’t understand why he had to die. I thought he wanted revenge for his family or something. But geez, why would he do that too, he don’t want to live with Zhou Ying? She needs more people to die in her life? Hai… but if that is the reason of his death, that is still better than what I assumed earlier.

That’s why I’m so angry with the writer! Even if Xing Yi had to die (he was a fictional character and historically Zhou Ying remained as a widow till she died), it could have been done in a million other better ways! Instead the writer relegated it into another soap opera..
Shen Yi’s character changed the most from the beginning to the end of the drama, his character development was the richest (IMO), but towards the end his character got even more interesting as the patriot he wasn’t given much screentime to show

Accidentally posted the comment being I finish (this site is hard to navigate using handphones)😂
Anyway what I wanted to say was I can understand that the writer wants to keep the focus on Zhou Ying (it’s a female centric show after all), but the writer dug too many holes along the way and towards the end i think she just gave up.. there’s no other reason I can help think of to explain the weak writing.. lol

It was incredibly heart wrenching when Xing Yi was willing to sacrifice his life and his love with Zhou Ying to save the Wu line! I personally thought it was a fitting end and did his character great justice no matter how tragic and bittersweet!

Dear Kappy, if you need a timer (segmenter), drop me a line and I will help out.
YT cutter is not reliable but if you decide to use the files from an open source (let’s say YT?) and time them in the aegisub … I can time the episodes for you. I cannot help out as a subber but any movement that expands the accessibility of great subtitles deserves to be supported 😀

don’t know why this post didn’t show up on the hp version!
i would love to help with subbing, i can understand mandarin but translating is another thing.. let me know if you are still continuing with this project! XD
I didn’t like the ending, in fact I dislike how the writer spun the story towards the end, from 67 onwards it went out of control totally.. disappointed because i really love the direction and the actors were great, it felt like the script couldn’t live up to their amazingness.. and it was such an anti-climatic ending for my fave char, Shen Xing Yi.. )):

LOL I agree with you so much. Shen Xing Yi is my favorite character too, probably even more than Zhou Ying, but then when he died…do I feel sad? No… not angry either. I feel nothing. It’s just like…what the heck, I didn’t care that my favorite character died because, I didn’t really get it. The last few episodes was boring and I fast forward so much. But I would never get bored of ep.1 – 66 though.

Lol same sentiments, agree that the last episodes were meh.. the only part which shone during the last few episodes was Shen Si Hai’s realisation that he had been duped by Du Mingli and was helping his son’s murderer the whole time. It was so heartbreaking, and sent a strong message of how helpless the people lived during those times, to be under the mercy of those in power.. this is also why Xing Yi was a man who lived beyond his time, because of what he experienced, his wish was for everyone to be equal (which made his transition to a rebel very believable).
Zhou Ying’s character is a pity really.. she could have been so much more if she was in the hands of a more competent writer.. the writer made her too conflicted/inconsistent.. the most disappointing thing though was her supposedly brilliant business acumen, which I completely couldn’t felt at all throughout the whole show. It was more like little tricks and amazing luck.. sorry for the long rant, I felt indignant for Sun Li who was amazing.. haha

I’m so heartbroken by that ending. I feel like there was all this build-up, and I didn’t get the closure I so desperately needed. Tbh, it just felt so unnecessary. I just don’t understand why Xing yi had to sacrifice himself. There were so many other options. Like, I get that his whole family had died, but didn’t he still have Zhou Ying to live for? It just felt so melodramatic for no apparent reason at the end. This was honestly so disappointing. 🙁
