Nick Wang reunites with Wang Zi Wen in When A Snail Loves

AHA! The hunt for the female lead is over. News just came out that Miss Wang Zi Wen (Ode To Joy) will be romancing Nick Wang for their second collaboration, When A Snail Loves, the first thriller of three in Ding Mo‘s novel series. She is Nick’s ladylove in Ode To Joy. Lol, how many times have Nick played a police officer? XD He is the sunshine in all the ladies’ hearts at the police station and actually became one against his mother’s wishes. Later, he defies and stands up against her for the love of his life in Xu Xu. Wang Zi Wen will play Xu Xu, our intelligent criminal psychologist, and is known as a petite “snail” due to her low EQ. He acts as her guide and mentor in the force, thus beginning their solid love story. She lives with her brother and father and is kinda the third male in the family. Logical and practical, she manages to surprise our hero at every turn.

I don’t know about ya’ll but Miss Wang might just eat up Mr. Wang in real life. LOL.

Nick’s latest photoshoot for L’Officiel Hommes.

Some of Wang Zi Wen‘s pictures. She’s a fireball all on her own. It will be so interesting to see their switched dynamic in the drama.

Haha. Good to see this couple again. Ode to Joy hasn’t aired yet, but I’m already loving their scenes together. Not only are they great actors so far, they have that necessary spark to make the OTP believable. While I’m loving the casting (esp Nick, although I don’t know how good of a fit he is…I didn’t get very far in the book translation, and I remember very little of the main male lead, but I trust Nick will do an awesome job with the role regardless…hopefully, most likely) and really excited to see more of Wang Zi Wen after her few but awesome scenes in the trailer and stills, I’m mildly sad and disappointed that Song Yi didn’t get the role. After our convo on the original post of When a snail loves remake, I was really getting comfortable with seeing Song Yi as my ideal choice for Xu Xu. Anyways regardless. Really looking forward to this. Actually. Unlike others, I actually don’t mind and sometimes really like seeing book-to-drama adaptations. I rarely have an issue with them unlike others cuz 99% of the time I haven’t actually read the books, due to limited Chinese skills, and plot-wise they tend to make more likable and less dog-blood, trope-y dramas (unless it was a terrible book to begin with…). There’s something about Chinese novels that’s so fundamentally different from American novels that it’s really romantic, like an indescribable quality that I can’t quite place. I could wax poetic about the different-ness and awesome-ness of Chinese novels forever, but I won’t. So really, bottom line, I have pretty low standards for Chinese novels and even lower standards for drama adaptations of them…so….Hua Qian Gu lol, you really messed up for me to dislike you so much. …Lol just realized that I totally rambled off topic.

I was hoping for Song Yi but I also have a soft spot for Wang Zi Wen so I’m thrilled for this collaboration nonetheless.

The last I heard from the production team is that they’re scouting filming locations. I’m assuming that once Wang Kai (he prefers to be called this rather than Nick apparently) wraps up his drama with Qiao En, they’ll get started on this project.

Definitely need to reread the book. I can’t remember anyone else but Xu Xu and Ji Bai!

Yeah! More Wang Kai onscreen. It’ll be nice seeing these two together after watching Ode to Joy. They look good together. I can’t wait to watch.

Does this take place in the same universe as ‘Love me if you dare / He comes, please shut eyes’? Even if not, I’ll just pretend he finally got the girl.

What do you think?
