Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy reveals official posters for the men

Checking back with another drama. 🙂 Ancient fantasy series, Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy (九州·海上牧云记) has just released the first posters of its solid male cast ensemble. You can refer to my previous post for the full cast list. They invested a lot of money and it definitely shows in the high quality costumes below. The setting takes place in Novaland, a period in Kevin Cheng’s Hua Xu Yin: City of Desperate Love.

Synopsis (best translation I can write at the moment, maybe I should read the novel now): In the ancient times, 6th Prince Mu Yun Sheng (Huang Xuan) was born. Because his mom is a demon (takeaway is…she’s not human), he is not loved by the Emperor, and lives in seclusion and loneliness. He happens to obtain an antique painting of a spirit demon and befriends the little trapped being (*tears*). Both promise to escape to the world’s most beautiful place. Mu Ru Han Jiang (Shawn Dou), son of a general, is elected to be the prince’s friend since he was young. Their peaceful days end when the eight tribes rebel. Mu Ru army fails to protect the royal family and is then exiled, breaking the friendship formed between the two families – Mu Yun and Mu Run. A few years later, a new rebellion threatens the royal family and this time, adult Mu Ru Han Jiang is the only one capable of protecting them. Pain and sorrows of past wounds now manifest in the new generation.

Male Posters:

Huang Xuan (Les Interprètes) as Mu Yun Sheng. Their character names are listed on the poster. Helpful. What I really don’t like is his hair! So plain. I’m gonna call it the Bai Zi Hua’s lazy sleek from now on. Haruuuumpph.

He plays a lonely half-human half-spirit 6th prince who is under house arrest.

Shawn Dou (To The Fore). Yay! Welcome to dramaland boo! 😀 Third son of a general who is abandoned and lives on the streets.

 photo Tribe 36.jpg

Zhou Yi Wei (The Red). Heir of a clan. Brave and insightful.

 photo Tribe 35.jpg

Wang Qian Yuan (The Battle At The Dawn). Part of the royal family. He acts sincere but is a very cunning man.

 photo Tribe 34.jpg

Peng Guan Ying. Yes, your highness. ^_^ Third Prince. Ambitious but without a place to show off his talents.

 photo Tribe 30.jpg

Li Zi Feng. First Prince. Upright with supreme martial arts skills.

 photo Tribe 32.jpg

Lu Fang Sheng. Founding emperor of Mu Yun’s empire. Once a heroic figure.

 photo Tribe 33.jpg

Oscar Sun Jian. Second Prince. Elegant and kind. Not very good with swordsmanship, but very good with books and strategies. He harbors a crush on Xu Lu’s character but she later marries 6th prince.

 photo Tribe 31.jpg

Zhang Xiao Chen. Second son of Mu Yun Luan (Wang Qian Yuan). Extremely smart.

In charge of directing is Cao Dun (The Sweet Burden) and he will also be working on the drama scripts with Jin He Zai (novel author), Wei Jing Na, and Tian Yan Juan. The series plans to have 50 episodes.

Wow the costuming looks so rich and luxurious! Well, except Huang Xuan’s, which makes sense cuz his dad hates him basically. But the costuming, … sweet!

Like, everyone else’s clothes are so textured and heavy/rich. The material looks thick and substantial, they’re embroidered, there’s fur, leather etc among other textures. Whereas Huang Xuan’s left with a measly thin floaty two-layer robe that looks like it was either tye-dyed for splotches are photoshopped on. I mean, his styling makes sense story-wise, but it’s aesthetically…less pleasing.

It will be harder to clean but I love how solid they feel to the eyes right now. Not like those whimsy clothes we often see.

Exactly right?! So much better than the Ice Fantasy cosplay-quality (totally not dissing cosplay, but admittedly most cosplay-ers have limited resources and their costuming, while beautiful and accurate, don’t exactly look lavish and realistic) stuff they were going for. Honestly I was a little worried about this cuz there have been so much fantasy-supernatural-movie-drama stuff coming out, most of them courtesy of Guo Jing Ming shallow western-influenced unoriginal shit, and a lot of the stills were look a little cheap even with all the big names attached, so now I’m really happy about the quality of the styling and stuff here. Obviously I complain about Huang Xuan’s look, but since it goes with his unloved, least-favorite son sob story context, I can’t really hold it against anyone for making our main lead look so freaking shabby.

Speaking of the stills, I think parts of it look really…unsettling. Esp with Huang Xuan and Shawn, I keep thinking their faces are super dirty or something. Like I think it’s partly the ridiculous amounts of highlight and contour done on their faces. The “highlighted” parts are so bright and shiny they look like glistening sweaty patches, and the shadowed parts just look really dark and muddy. The contrast is just so unrealistic, and it just really keeps making me think they all have dirty, unwashed faces or something. Way to detract from their naturally beautiful faces, stylists. T.T and they almost had everything down perfect….

Liking the male cast in this series so far.

I’m just kind of sad from looking at Peng Guan Ying’s photo because it reminds me once again that Lanling Wangfei still isn’t airing anytime soon. =(

Honestly I’ve half given-up-on and half not-interested-anymore in Princess Lan Ling Wang. Like. I’ve gotten so over that. Every since like, 2011 or something, it’s like drama after drama just keep getting held back. It’s really not good for the market guys…I remember back then when I was crazy about Liu Shi Shi, I was like waiting for forever for her modern drama Happiness of an Angel (I think) to come out (this was like, 2012). Honestly I remember waiting a really long time. I didn’t see a trailer until around or after SOP Queen (the first) came out, and I was like, oh, maybe things are getting moving again. And then it just….never came out. Dramawiki used to change the date every year and say like, now it’ll be broadcasted 2013, then 2014, etc. Lol but now? Even dramawiki got tired of it. It just says “unbroadcasted” now. Yeah. Like, I give up. I just don’t get why dramas don’t get broadcasted. I mean, it’s not like LSS and Ming Dao are like nobodies and no channel wants to broadcast their stuff, so why?

Even with the crapload of drama releases last month, I want to watch new LanLing so much. I saw Kitty Zhang in Treasure Raiders but I’m just like ugh when is that drama release?
Yes, Shawn, welcome to dramaland. But that hair looks funny on him.

Solid cast indeed! Surprised to see Shawn Dou but happy as well. Everyone looks suitable for their roles and of course the costumes are on point, as should be expected. Will you be posting the female cast stills as well? ^^
