***28th Completed Project!  …and it’s like a big burden has been lifted. I feel indignant and betrayed by the writer (yes, you Qiong Yao! Photobucket). The number of downloads for this drama DID NOT guarantee it as a project here (weird how I continued to the end!). So low, I wanted to scream and pull all my hair out. Rant begins: HZGG is a fairy tale! Fairy tales have happily-ever-after endings. How could XZY & YQ ever be happy? Knowing what they did and the people they hurt? Poor baby. Thy father has been butchered to the ninth degree by the person who created a charming and devoted prince decade ago… I have pity for the cast. Terrible script they have to work with. *pats them on the back* On the upside, they made a name for themselves now – more offers are ought to flood in (yes, you, Li Jia Hang!).

I want to kidnap Zhao Li Ying (she played Qing Er), she’s so cute!…buh…she’s so skinny. I’m afraid the outside wind would break her. Photobucket End Rant.

**Update (8.5.11) – Oh gosh, this drama is going to be the death of me. It’s such an exhausting task, trying to download 2 episodes every day for the next month! It’s worst than uploading a Korean drama! My friend gave up on the drama…so I’m flying solo again.

**Update (9.12.11) – YESHHHH!! Ten Six more episodes and I’m done with this huge drama, the longest project at my blog. *phew* Spoiler: Um, I saw the ending scenes…QY, you let me down. You lied about Part 3!!

Alice: (Thoughts for the first episode – 7.15.11) As expected, very pretty. I need to have my hands on the HD version as soon as possible. I’m so glad the songs are not a remake from the old ones. The opening theme is great and has a sense of a classic. But my eyebrows arch when I see Zi Wei being introduced AFTER the American actor in the opening. Seriously? 0_0

    Apparently they decided to change the storyline up 😉 but I think it'd be nice for a change, not as depressing. I've seen the past 3 seasons, I'm a huge fan, so I get to evaluate this 🙂

    The major plots for Part 1 & 2 most likely stay the same, except with minor changes and subplots with the addition of Benjamin. The disastrous
    Part 3, according to the author, is completely changed, except for XYZ's real father plot.

    I'm actually very annoyed by the Benjamin character. He seems soo superfluous to the overall story. His overabundant screen time is taking a big toll on the other important characters' development such as ErKang and YongQi. His interactions with Xiao Yan Zi are supposed to provide the "comedic effect" in the drama, but I found them so mundane and forceful. It's not even funny but boring.

    As far as I know, Viki is the only subbing group for this drama (so far). Not sure if they will release soft subs though.

    i think its alright. i dunno why everyone is complaining about it… just give these actors a chance and treat it as if it were a another drama. i mean, the point of the remake is not to compare it to the old one.

    yeah I like it too 😀 Actually, I love it 🙂 I love the quality of the show, the scenes and the characters are lovely. They really did improve the way they told this story a lot. The draggy scenes were either cut or the conversations were cut to be a bit shorter. Some scenes really touched me – the part where Qianlong came to see Xiao yan zi after he hit her was done extremely well. I liked how Xiao Yan Zi made that comment to Qianlong after he left.. it really shows that Xiao Yan Zi studied poetry, despite the fact that she hates it, because she did it for the emperor. 

    I do hope they change Xiao Yan Zi's annoying character in Part ii though.

    im confused. On youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SZKT30emVs this episode is ep13 and is equivalent to your ep 11. i.e. when Qianlong hits xiao yan zi. Is there something i'm missing?

    As I know it, there are two versions being played and released. 1) DVD version with longer running time per episode so it's faster. 2) TV Version is shorter so the # of episodes is more, about 100.

    Hope this clears up your confusion.

    I just watch this drama yesterday, naturally I compared this with the original version but after a couple of episodes I started to appreciate it for what it is. I have to say it have its own uniqueness, beautifully cinematography, well choreographed fighting scenes and lot more fun. For some reasons I like this Xiao Yan Zi more than Zhao Wei's (I maybe the only one in the world :D) I think her acting in some scenes are more natural. Benjamin is a very nice addition to the cast as well. So far, the only thing I'm not happy with this version is Zi Wei.

    I only saw episode 1 so my comment won't mean anything much. Need subtitle to view everything else. You like this XZY more than ZW's? That's saying a lot.

    From what I read, most people are annoyed with Benjamin, saying that he takes a lot out of the pivotal characters' development. I will have to see that for myself.

    I finished watching the first season of NHZGG and also the first 2 eps of the 2nd season. I'm impressed with the changes made to the series. Qiong Yao has the gift of story telling. Adding Benjamin was a bonus to the story. It makes it more interesting to add competition to Yong Qi's love fascination in Xiao Yan Zi. Benjamin has stolen the show on some occasions. The actor is excellent in his part after all Qiong Yao wrote him in the series after seeing him in a singing competition in Taiwan. He impressed me with his fluency in Mandarin, sound almost like a native speaker. His acting skill is good, too so are the rest of the cast. Personally. though I have my doubts at the beginning but they disappear once I started watching the show. I look for story and acting, not the actors/actresses, therefore, change of the latter never worries me. I heard a lot of fans reckons HZGG 3 was a failure which I disagreed because I enjoyed that show and watched it a few times over and over. Basically, I've seen 99.9% of all Qiong Yao's shows and their remakes. Her remakes have happier endings which make me enjoy her shows more because I'm a sucker for such ends. Also to add, HZGG and NHZGG have improved my knowledge, understanding and liking of the chinese language after all I'm chinese illiterate, having never learn chinese formally but pick them up through watching TV series, movies, etc.

    This is a terrible show.  First season is so so so slow.  35 episodes and the only thing we get is that ZW has entered the palace and was tortured severely.  I heard the meat of the story is actually in part II but so far, it seems just as slow.  Not as bad as the first season where we get a horde of useless stuff but still slow.  All of the characters are not likable.  XYZ is the same as in HZGGII, maybe even more annoying and stupid.  ZW has blank eyes and the sisterly bond is non-existent.  heck ZW even accused XYZ of stealing her place AFTER she entered the palace.  YQ?  Who is that?  Oh right the guy who follows Benji everywhere.  EK is probably the most likable but there was a scene where he completely ignored ZW to torture DMM.  Benji takes up wayy too much screentime.  For a guy who is the second male lead, he has wayy more screentime than YQ and EK.  Too much time spent on XYZ's lack of knowledge.  We don't need a bajillion scenes of XYZ in a classroom being stupid!  I can go on and on. 

    Nothing is wrong with the actors/actresses, it's just the script is BAD BAD BAD.

    I'm a big fan of the originals, it's a classic gem in my heart. I'm not following this remake right now because there's no English subtitle but feel free to read the comments here Annette. I have to say though, the comments posted are much more positive and amicable than other websites. 🙂

    The originals have been aired in China for over a decade already and remains one of the top-rated dramas in China, so it's not easy to win people's heart. Plus, from what I have read, the addition of one new actor takes a toll on the critical relationships that should have been left untouched.

    Understatement.  It took like 40 episodes for the YQ+XYZ relationship to go anywhere and even to now, at episode 50, there hasn't been anything since the confession and kiss.  Forget about any alone time between YQ+XYZ, Benji is always there!  Always, I tell ya! *pulls hair out* For goodness sake, go away!!!

    Disappointed, frustrated, and worst thing is, I can't stop watching!  It's like a trainwreck, you can't look away.  I'm not Chinese though so I figure I should wait for subtitles to judge it properly but the thought of re-watching this just to see BENJI, XYZ ACTING RETARDED, BENJI, BENJI, BAD PLOT, BENJI, BENJI, XYZ ACTING RETARDED–I can't bring myself to do it.  Sigh.

    I so agree on that.  I love the songs, all of them have been really good so far. 🙂  Qing Er is adorable!  I don't understand why she wasn't casted as ZW because no offense to the ZW actress, but imo her blank looks aren't very endearing….

    Lol…unlike "Disappointed" I actually am really enjoying this new version.  Mind you I totally love the original too but this new HZGG is quite entertaining and the characters are likeable, even Benji, lol…. (sorry 'Disappointed'!).  I guess I'm just impressed with his Mandarin skills and he is cute. I'm also amazed at how much this new XYZ looks like Vicky Zhao.
    I do agree that they drag with XYZ and YQ love story a bit and I too am wanting to see their relationship develop more. I'm still on epi 25 so nothing much has happened in the relationship field for those two yet, except for that fact that you can see the feeling that both Benji and YQ have for XYZ.

    Oh and I too love the music, I hope their will be an OST soon. Looking forward to that. I been humming the music all week, haha….even the old tunes.

    I'm glad to see there's someone who shares the same thought as mine. I think if you look at this remakes of HZGG and think of it as an individual instead of comparing it to the much beloved original you would appreciate it for what it is, which is a very well done show.

    For some odd reason, I really like this NHZGG version, the original is always going to be a classic, but XYZ is really catching all my attention in this series. She is so bubbly and cute and YQ is such a cutie.. Ohh i just want to see how XYZ and YQ end up together, hopefully better than the HZGG3..

    alice, if this drama is exhausting for you, just stop uploading (spend time on other quality dramas), I'm up episode 67-ish and this drama, even not comparing with the originals, lack all the developments and substance. the first season is ALL JUNKS! exactly, what developments have happened?

    you know, i don't hate benjamin anymore, but I hate YQ! the author has completely butchered his character into an annoying pest.

    QY, this version does not BRING HAPPINESS or deeper sense of love! WHAT LOVE? some might ask even.

    the only saving grace is the pretty scenery and props. and maybe EK and ZW's love story. yuhhhh, that's sad.

    I don't understand how ppl can hate Benji. Personally, i think he's really sweet and it's amazing how his Chinese is so good even though he's only been in China for five years. We should really empathise with him more D:

    It's a shame that you need to know Chinese to fully understand some of the jokes. I laugh really hard at the puns xD It's unfortunate that people who don't know Chinese have little idea why it's so funny… takes the good aspects out of the drama.

    You know you can just watch it on QQ? Lol I'm too lazy to bother downloading all the episodes.

    Thxs for finishing the posts. A job well done, you truly deserve a medal! Haha…

    So, upon finishing this series, I have to say I enjoyed watching it very much but I was kinda disappointed with a few things:
    1. They cut out the wedding of XYZ and YQ! I mean the poor things already had to wait a good 2 1/2 yrs before they could be together again and QY couldn't even give us a BIG happily ever after!?! At least in the original 3rd version I saw them have a fulling life with children and all.
    2. Poor Benji!!! He was the guardian angel of XYZ and instead of feeling all warm and fuzzy for XYZ and YQ getting back together I felt depressed for Benji who just decided to leave. I was so heart-broken for him. I thought that at least he would have gotten a hint of finding a XYZ of his own somewhere towards the end, someone who would love him whole hardheartedly too.  Why couldn't QY write him a happily ever after or at least hinted to him being happy too (I thought she meant for this version to be a happy ending for all? and not to mention she wrote Benji's role esp. for him when she saw him perform). Even Liu Hong has that bearded guy as potential marriage prospect, lol…
    3. I would have like to see the King like the original version making a trip to DaLi to visit his children and grandchildren. I felt that was really sweet the QY wrote that in the original. It made the series feel complete and wholesome, like it should be. That even though most of them where apart in different places that everyone still kept in contact and were a big family.

    I do have to agree with you though, I thought the actors did a very good job with what they got to work with. I totally enjoyed watching them develop their roles. They were really good and I look forward in seeing them in future series.
