First Look at Tong Meng Shi and Mao Xiao Hui’s The New Version of the Candor Heroes

Another new adaptation of The Condor Heroes with a weird/misspelled title?! The New Version of the Candor Heroes (神雕侠侣) features two green faces in Tong Meng Shi (Colourful Bone, The Taosim Grandmaster) and Mao Xiao Hui (The Twin Flower Legend). We have seen Mr. Tong in a few projects but for Mao Xiao Hui, she’s pretty green so let’s hope that factor will help her ~

Lololol! I don’t know, I just copied what’s written on the poster! Didn’t wanna be a smartypants and correct the production…! xD

      • 21 thoughts on “First Look at Tong Meng Shi and Mao Xiao Hui’s The New Version of the Candor Heroes

It would be just a typo if they only did that on one or two things…they legit have it registered as “The New Version of the Candor Heroes” and put it over every promo material they put out so far. Eeep.

I read on another website that Candor is the actual english translation instead of Condor which was why this production team chose to use this word.

@akapani Candor is about being honest, expressive, sincere, like straight forward. Candor Heroes just doesn’t make sense at all. How many of those “Heroes” are like that in the series? Don’t all these Jin Yong series are linked with Condor? I can see they probably don’t want to use Condor in this one since there no Condor on any poster. Usually, posters will have that big bird there.

Hmm… I don’t know what to say about this. Xiao Long Nü is underwhelming as usual. I think RotCH is the hardest adaptation simply because everyone expects XLN to be ethereally beautiful, but few actresses (except Crystal Liu) can really live up to the tag. I know there are some who favour the earlier adaptations, but objectively speaking CL must be the prettiest XLN ever, not accounting for nostalgia. I think it’s hard for anyone to top that.

    • 21 thoughts on “First Look at Tong Meng Shi and Mao Xiao Hui’s The New Version of the Candor Heroes

I prefer the 2006 RotCH myself but Fann Wong is arguably the prettier XLN depending on your taste & idea of the character, although the production for her RotCH obviously wasn’t as good and her hair was ridiculous in some parts compared to Liu Yi Fei’s 2006 version almost a decade later.

But objectively speaking I don’t think you can say that CL is necessarily the best or prettiest XLN, she is very pretty but she has more of a “cute” or “innocent” look as opposed to the “coldly elegant” look as the character is described by Jin Yong. At those actresses’ level, it really just comes down to taste.

Fann Wong is my second favourite in terms of just looks. Obviously the costumes and hair has a lot to do with it, but I think her features are on the flatter side as well. She’s still gorgeous, but a milder kind of beauty.

Eh, Liu Yifei has a baby face that makes her look more girl than woman, esp true at the time she filmed RoCH because she was still literally a teenager. She is helped along by good character design and her dance background but I always felt like HXM was a paedophile next to LYF. To this day I still don’t get the beauty appeal of her. She is certainly pretty, but not the kind that warrants a double take.

Carman Lee is my pick for XLN.

    • 21 thoughts on “First Look at Tong Meng Shi and Mao Xiao Hui’s The New Version of the Candor Heroes

I agree. Crystal is arguably the most beautiful XLN to date. Her sword skill is top notch as well. Her ancient beauty and aura are also factors that made her standout. There are some who prefer Carmen Lee or Idy Chan, and I can see why. It’s all due to preference. Crystal is often described as if she came off from the novel. Also, isn’t ROCH the drama that got her the tittle Goddess? I still haven’t seen any actress that can beat Crystal when it comes to ancient beauty with those ancient costumes. She just has that ancient beauty aura that really helps her. Other actresses are pretty, but they don’t have that aura.

People are already making fun of this so hard…I mean, first wth is going on with the title, second they basically reused the same costumes (apparently they hired the costume director from the previous version…why would you shoot yourself in the foot like that for a remake), and third they went with a REALLY rookie cast, so this random girl is supposed to compete with Liu Yi Fei’s by-now-iconic 2006 version of Xiao Long Nu, not to mention even older versions (like Fann Wong & Christopher Lee, who ended up marrying each other IRL)… I have a feeling any interest from a new/younger generation in ROTCH from this drama will only end up driving up the view counts of the 2006 version.

Maybe the production team thinks changing the ‘o’ to an ‘a’ will make it a new adaption? (lol lol lol)
But seriously, if that’s a typo on their part…..I wonder why no one noticed the ‘a’ and amend it.

    • 21 thoughts on “First Look at Tong Meng Shi and Mao Xiao Hui’s The New Version of the Candor Heroes

LOL, agree, they must’ve intentionally changed the “o” to “a”, because it’s been a while & peeps have been calling out the production team for that but I haven’t seen any response. Well, at least people shouldn’t complain about the continuous remaking of the Condor trilogy — this time it’s a Candor hero, folks!

Speaking of the actors, I lost count how many times Zong Fengyan has been in a Jin Yong adaptation. He probably set the record and breaks it himself! 😀

Condor Heroes and Candor Heroes are totally different. They didn’t purposely write it like that right?

  6. 21 thoughts on “First Look at Tong Meng Shi and Mao Xiao Hui’s The New Version of the Candor Heroes

Late to the party. I never knew “Candor” was a word until now. Thanks, typo trademark!

“Candor” means honesty. So The New Version of the Honest Heroes’.

It makes a bit of sense, as far as typo goes. Could be worse. 😄

But now it doesn’t make sense, “New Version”? There was never an older version of The Candor Heroes before. Oh well, this is sad. lol I’ll watch it anyway.

Thanks for the update, sis! 🙂

My question is how many “Heroes” in the series are honest and sincere as like straightforward type of person. The tittle is funny though.

      • 21 thoughts on “First Look at Tong Meng Shi and Mao Xiao Hui’s The New Version of the Candor Heroes

Well, Yang Guo is generally not even close to “candor”. Huang Rong has a hard time liking and trusting him because he reminds her of his treacherous father so much. However, once he’s convinced that you are sincere with him, he’ll reciprocate at least as much.

Only 3 characters I can think of who are almost always straightforward and honest – Guo Jing, early XLN and Guo Xiang.

I really wanna see Chilam and Athena Chu as Guo Jing and Huang Rong in Return of Condor Heroes. T.T

What do you think?
