Yes Jiro still looks like Jiro.
Colors and setting are all beautiful but I can imagine the story and character being as terrible as Beauty in the Closet, don’t know why I suddenly got that strong vibe.

I actually liked Beauty in the Closet despite the silliness. Cinderella Chef, on the other hand, I find even sillier and beyond my low standards =P. I like the novel and was looking forward to the drama adaptation. I like both the female and male lead, but the plot is just a big mess IMO.

The plots in Cinderella Chef are usual predictable tropes so nothing new and nothing interesting, but things still get serious at times and allow all the ugly actors became very unique. All the interactions were special. I finished Beauties in the Closet but it was too extreme on rinsing and repeating only 1 thing over and over, so the interactions were not able to grow on me because HBQ never mature and vic did not evolve either. The trailer on that one was totally fine, good trailer, when the real thing came out though it got me because it was super tricky! I’d never imagine that the grown up ladies would be acting like children.

I didn’t like Cinderella Chef season II as much… palace stuff and spoilt princess are not cool. By the time they get to the framing Mary Sue of a crime I have no interest in any of the investigations. The kings and queens are just way too casual to meet, as if they have no power at all and people are not afraid of them. From the trailer above it seems like Jiro will be another king with lots of fun but no big responsibilities. I don’t like if things do get way too serious and no fun at all too, getting that middle spot is the hardest.

Thank you both for describing Cinder Chef and Beauty in the Closet. Hard to abbreviate the latter as it looks too much like a curse word. lol.

I saw 4 eps of Meng Fei. MF and her lady friends are amusing at times but not super funny. Jiro Wang is one of those emperors who has too much free time on his hands to mind all the domestic girlish matters. He even reads popular romance novels. I don’t remember he looked into any national matters. Not too different from Hawick Lau’s Qing emperor with palace maid Zheng Shuang, except Jiro’s emperor comes with a comic spin. JW’s acting is not strong. I think the director could have done a better job in general, but it’s still acceptable for non-demanding audience.

HBQ’s acting has often been too bland for my taste. Her directors may not have been great? Typically not impressed by VZ’s acting either though I did enjoy 1 of his old dramas.

Of many C dramas from the last few months that I happened to watch, NIF2 and Huckleberry Friends have good directors. The acting looks good 99% of the time with nearly the whole cast. The rest have more weak spots. Some do even worse than that. The average acting from Oh My General etc looked bad in comparison to the much younger actors from Huckleberry Friends. The acting from the supporting cast of Moonlight and Valentine is not too good. Now it looks like if a drama’s plot has a male alien lead, he has to show “detached acting” for the role. It’s the latest in alien-drama formula in Asia? MaV could benefit from a better director and scriptwriter.

The supporting actor who plays the tech guy who writes phone apps in Only Side By Side With You is noticeably weak too.

I guess I will skip this one…the colours are too bright and most of all the over the top acting and just too much sillyness are things that make me want to run away screaming..These tall hairstyles. O_O

Does Jiro Wang have a rider in all his contracts that he’s gotta have his abs appear in at least one scene. Not complaining, just wondering…

I am up to do 17 and I am not sure if it’s poor editing or I missed some parts but which episode is it that the fire happened? My mandarin is passable at best so I could have missed it…. anybody can help??

I enjoy watching this drama, refreshing and funny. This is my get-away from all the other dramas that has too much angst and politics. I wish more people would watch it so it gets subbed faster.
