First Impressions (WITH SPOILERS):
Finally a wuxia that has captured my interest! I have only watched 4 episodes so far but there is minimal CG and the fighting sequences are pretty cool as I’ve already mentioned in the chat box.
The Wuxia world! If you have been following Jin Yong adaptations or just any proper Wuxia, you may recognize some of the sect names like Huashan and Emei. Yes, they are here too.
Leo Luo Yunxi is doing a good job so far as Shangguan Tou. The book was written poorly and I would never recommend it to anyone, but I do remember his character as being a big flirt but a bit of a mystery. Leo is doing a good job so far portraying the flirtatious nature while being mysterious. His eyes does the talking when there is no dialogue.
I like that they made the FL more likable in the drama. She is a jianghu world newbie, but she is not stupid and not easily fooled. This might lead her to trouble but we shall see what she encounters. Her character grated on my nerves in the book. In the drama, she can be described as feisty but she was downright bitter to the point of just being a b!tch in the book. I think the author was trying extremely hard to make her seem like the devilish lead of the “evil” clan, but nope, turns out she was just a b!tch. At least in the drama, she is still the leader of an “evil” clan but not as grumpy.
My only gripes so far: the music and the costumes. The songs are fine, but as I mentioned in the chat box, I hope they do not intend to play dramatic music every time Leo starts a fighting sequence. I think it has already been established that yes he is gorgeous and yes he can fight. No need to keep emphasizing how amazing he is!
As for costumes, I don’t actually like what Chong Xuezhi is wearing at the beginning. I’m sure she’ll have some costume changes later on, though.
SOME SPOILERS FROM THE BOOK
– The female lead Chong Xuezhi has two fathers. Yes, it was a BL story between them. I have a feeling this will be changed in the drama or they may keep it if they can cleverly play around with censorship.
– Chong Xuezhi hated Lin Fengzi in the book and harbored feelings for Xia Qingmei. LFZ chased CXZ around and called her older sister, which aggravated CXZ a lot.

I just finished ep 10 and am still really liking this. Not a fan of Yukee but I have watched her in three dramas, including this one. She’s not bad here thanks to her character, but if you don’t like what you see from her, I wouldn’t say this is highly recommended.

Anyone else disappointed the main lead didn’t get to dub his own character?

I for one think Yunxi’s real voice is unsuitable for this type of flirty, dominant male role so good think he’s dubbed.

Makes sense. But I would’ve found it interesting to watch/hear his own voice and face out a completely different type of role compared to the ones I’ve seen him in.
