AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
My beloved anime, Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師), is adapted into a live action movie. Oiiiiiiiii! My heart is about to explode when I saw the first teaser, showing the beautiful wide shots of ruined cities, the horrifying transmutation circle, and a quick glance at our lovely brothers. You know it’s hard for animated characters to hit me at the heart but the heart-breaking journey featuring the Elric brothers always lands with moi very hard. They have a story to tell, a lesson to learn and to TEACH, and a courage no evil can stop.
My heart, be still.
Stills:
The circle of trade, the evil of it all!
The boys teeny home. Awww.
They travel from one ruined place to another by trains. Love it! Love it!!!
Oh? Who’s that in the red cape? It’s our main character, older brother Edward Elric, played by Ryosuke Yamada.
The younger brother, Alphonse Elric! OMG! Who’s gonna voice our beloved robot boy with the heart of gold?!!
Teaser:
- Fullmetal Alchemist tells the story of two brothers on an epic journey to find the philosopher’s stone, hoping to correct their previous mistake. The mistake takes place when they try to revive their dead mother using alchemy. However, human transmutation is a taboo, resulting in the loss of Edward’s left leg and younger brother, Alphonse’s life. In the last second, Edward sacrifices his right arm to bring back Alphonse’s soul and transfixes it to a giant armor. Now the boys hear of the legendary Philosopher’s Stone and its power and set foot in the big city to track it down. What they discover is a deep, bone-chilling conspiracy. For every gain, there’s a loss.
- Highly recommend anime fans to watch the second anime television series titled Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It’s well written, badass, heart-breaking – all in equal measures.
- Directed by Fumihiko Sori (Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker), Fullmetal Alchemist aims for a release in the Winter of 2017. WHAT.

Such a long wait!! But patience is require for quality. Hopefully it will be good. I love the series. Japan has been putting out a lot of anime live-adaptation lately. Thanks to Kenshin live-action trilogy, they know adapting their own work is great for the box office. 😀 Bleach is also in the work, with one of my fav actor as lead.
Just by this teaser alone, I’m pretty impress by what I see. “Asian-wash” characters or not, the scenery is super awesome. I’m glad they went to legit filming location. No sense in making FMA if it’s set in Tokyo. lol
Elric brothers, I am ready!

You know it’s weird when I read comments about Asian-washing, I have no idea what they meant? Cause in my head, this is a Japanese manga, so even when the manga characters are white/european, I somehow adapted without much thoughts > Japanese manga > Japanese actors. Lol.
I don’t think my brain processes like a normal person. XD

No your brain process fine Shifu. I feel the same way. I was pointing out the “Asian-washing” thing to poke fun at the complaints people have about this. To me if the acting is good, then it’s good regardless. 😀

We have so much of White-washing that it feels strange to see Asian-washing, lol!

Lol though let’s be real, is asian-washing even a thing? Minorities rarely get represented anyway. Might as well put japanese actors since its a japanese manga after all. I always just assume when reading manga that the people are asian or asian just with lighter or bleached blonde hair??? Idk I think I would’ve been more annoyed if america went and white-washed this (like they do with everything else) >_<

I share the same view with you too~

“I always just assume when reading manga that the people are asian or asian just with lighter or bleached blonde hair” That’s interesting, because you always hear the opposite. 😮 Are you Asian by any chance? It would make sense for you to project your own race on fictional comic characters while white people always think all anime characters look white.

I read about this too, Kap! I’m stoked that I will get to see anything of my favourite anime even if Japanese manga-turned-movies have never been that good, haha.
Ahhh, the emotions are coming to me thinking about this! :”D

Hey Tusu, I agree with you. However, I thought Kenshin was decent. Attack on Titan, Bakuman, Assassination Classroom, and Parasyte probably not so much. But they’re better than Dragonball Evolution though. lol Well, Kenshin was anyway.
So yes, while I feel the worries, I have hope for this one. 😀

I’m still so hyped that the comments on various sites don’t bother me at all. I thought everyone’s brain would process like mine. LOL.

Why is it a year from now? ;_;
I think when it comes to anime adapted to live actions, they mostly aim for the domestic audience and they probably prefer folks that speak Japanese fluently so that they don’t have to translated it over. Then again, it looks that this film probably spend more money on the sceneries and cgi than the characters xD

This movie will come to the west, I’m pretty sure of that.
It’s by WB studio, who did Kenshin. Funimation work under them. They’ll bring it over just like they did for other anime live-action adaptations. But if this is coming out in winter 2017, I guess the US won’t get it til 2018. Japanese version it is!

OOOOh I see I forgot about US theater, but that takes forever
They probably just prefer their own people doing the filming then lol.
With the US, they don’t get that much of an excuse since there is a definite diverse population so white-washing get flacked a lot.
Anyhow, Japanese version for me as well! 😀

Hehe you gave a glowing review to the second animated series; is Fullmetal Alchemist as good as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood? Prob gonna watch both anyways…

The second one sticks closely to the manga, more characters, more humor, and one badass ending. The first one is also good but it follows its own story (~around ep13? it derails) and is played up more dramatically. Lol.
I have watched both, Brotherhood FTW!

It actually looks kinda good!!! As long as it doesn’t turn out to be like Attack of the Titans! I was so so disappointed with that movie, didn’t do the anime justice at all…
