Kenichi Matsuyama and Erika Toda return to Death Note Light Up the New World

It’s been 10 years since the first movie of the franchise came out (also Toda’s big screen’s debut)! I’ll be honest and say that I don’t remember 85% of the plot. I know there’s a book with power to kill anyone whose name is wriiten in it by the owner. And that Toda was raw and chubby at the time. That’s it. Lol.

Synopsis of Death Note Sequel: Set ten years after the events of the previous films, in 2016, society is afflicted with cyber-terrorism. The Death Note is a supernatural notebook that grants its user the power to kill simply by writing a person’s name on its pages. Six different Death Notes fall to the human world, the maximum number of notes that can exist at once. In the midst of this, two new individuals inherit the DNA of Light Yagami and L and must play a deadly game of cat-and-mouse once again.[3] Yūki Shien is a cyber-terrorist and a Kira worshiper. Sakura Aoi is a mass murderer and also a Kira worshiper. She is called the most deadliest death note user. Tsukuru Mishima is a special task force member, who tries to secure all 6 death notes. Shō Nanase is also a task force member. Ryūzaki, a private investigator and the original successor to L. He wears a mask. A white shinigami, Arma visits the human world.A computer virus called Kira spreads in the world. A three way battle with the 6 notes starts between Yūki,Tsukuru and Ryūzaki. [Wiki]

The original Death Note manga is a masterpiece and one of my absolute favourite works of fiction, so I’m approaching this news with cautious optimism. The new plot has me tripping over all the new names and roles but cyber terrorism sounds like an interesting approach. Light used to depend on TV news (and his father’s connections) to get criminals’ names, now imagine what the new Kira can do with his/her hacking skills. And six freaking notes. The death count is going to be ten times higher.

But when I saw Kenichi Matsuyama is going to be back as L, I’m totally fist-pumping. A hundred times yes. I’m going to be watching this, lol.

I cannot read manga so I rely a lot of anime and live-action adaptations. Lol.

Excited for the two returning champs!

Here for Toda Erika! I haven’t watched anything of hers after Summer Nude.

I loved L when the first movie came out. So much that I had my artist friend paint a portrait of him. L, the manga character, not Matsuyama lol. Still hangs on my wall. Hehe.

It feels like she’s not getting any roles while other actresses get roles season after season, consecutively. =( WHY IS THIS?!!

I would love to have Matsuyama hanging on my wall. He’s so quirky-looking. And a badass!

I want to know why, too! The last thing I heard about her was her dating SPEC co-star Kase Ryo but no drama news.

LOL. I don’t want someone else’s husband to hang on my wall.

is she still dating him? lol. she’s getting love elsewhere and forgetting about her fans!!

Oops. Hanging that picture might cause trouble, LOL. PWHAHAHAH!!

Some people get love onscreen, some people get love off-screen. As long as she’s happy, I guess I can wait…

I wonder about Toda Erika too…she’s a decent actress and good looking ao why the little love? I mean I love Keiko Kitagawa but I think Erika has more range yet Keiko is constantly getting roles and remains popular while Erika seems to be fading.

Not that I am complaining about more Keiko on screen…she will always be my Japanese bias…as will Sailor Mars will always be my favorite Sailor scout.

I only recognize a handful of Japanese actors and actresses I like! Lol Toda Erika is right at the top!

          Oh Sailor Moon. Time!!!

Wow, nostalgia! Death Note was such a thing back then in my younger school days. Every one was like, did you watch Death Note?

I’m surprised how Kenichi Matsuyama looks now but it’s a result of marriage and happiness, hehe.

There is a new drama called Death Note: New Generation! Apparently its the prequel to this new movie and a sequel to the Death Note 2 movie!
I want to watch it so badly but no one is subbing it cries!!!

    • 18 thoughts on “Kenichi Matsuyama and Erika Toda return to Death Note Light Up the New World

There’s no Toda! I’m gonna skip. Lol.

I’m surprised it’s not getting subbed though, I thought Death Note fans would! Maybe they are busy because school just started. 🙂

haha, i watched every single version of this Death Note and never get tired. My question is, there’s another character like N etc.. but why the producer stuck with L only? 😀 Just my random question tho.

Another Death Note sequel? l’m actually fine as long as it’s good, especially the characters. l watched Death Note drama and it was a mess! All characters are original, only the names remained the same with the manga, a whole new story, even the ending was different. Seriously TOTAL MESS. lt’s much better if l just watch the anime.

l’m glad that Erika is back, and MatsuKen, l think he would be shown as memory. The story and characters seem interesting, but that guy playing as L’s successor is a grandpa! So old! That beard, short height, huge mushroom head, oh God….have mercy….

What do you think?
