The Starry Night The Starry Sea Second: Episodes 3 & 4 Recap

This 7 episodes a week release is insane! I love it as a watcher but hate is as a recapper lol Well, the romance definitely starts to pick up this episode as Julan’s cool and icy demeanor starts to crack just a little. We get to know Yin Hu a little better, my heart continues to break for Xiao Husband, and Ah Li annoys me a little less. Hey, that’s progress people.

The Starry Night The Starry Sea Second: Episodes 1 & 2 Recap

It’s here! I only found out about this drama a week ago but let me tell you, it was a very long week lol I’m fairly new to Chinese Dramas. I was browsing an Asian drama website looking for a new Korean drama to watch when I happened upon Ice Fantasy. I devoured it. Thus started my budding crush on Feng Shao Feng. Of course it was only natural that I waited in anticipation for his next drama The Starry Night The Starry Sea, and now here I am waiting and watching The Starry Night The Starry Sea 2. The fall into Chinese Drama junky is a slow and steady one.

I have to say, one of the things that first drew me to The Starry Night The Starry Sea (besides Feng Shao Feng) was that the story was not about a mermaid but a merman. I would say that 99% of stories about merpeople are focused on a female. Be it the American industry such as the movies The Little Mermaid and Splash or the international industry such as the Korean dramas Legend of the Blue Sea and Surplus Princess. So the fact that this drama focused on a merman was immediately intriguing. Ok, enough chatter, let’s get this review started.

Character Posters for Ren Jia Lun and Tan Song Yun’s Jin Yi Zhi Xia

Jin Yi Zhi Xia (锦衣之下) is based on the novel written by Lan Se Shi starring Ren Jia Lun (Glory of the Tang Dynasty) and Tan Song Yun (Mr. Mermaid) in a costume series about two investigative bureaus during the Ming Dynasty. He serves for the imperial secret police group called the Embroidered Uniform Guards and she’s a female Constable from Liu Shan Men, a government branch responsible for safety of the capital (remember Zhang Han’s The Four?) Our two leads meet when funds raised to repair a river went missing and her people are tasked to provide assistance to his people. She’s of course huffy puffy about working under him and he’s too proud (son of the leader). Motivated by self-interests, he doesn’t treat her kindly and things come to a climax when she finds out the Embroidered Uniform Guards were involved with her parents’ deaths.

Me: *imagined tiny teeny Tan Song Yun as a cop*
Me: *found a footage of her as a cop*
Me: LOL. *Uploaded!*

Vic Zhou’s Gui Zhong Mei Ren drops 10-minute Exciting Trailer

Oh! I like it in motion much better! More because I thought Vic Zhou would be a sitting duck while the ladies, Chen Yao and Hu Bing Qing, swirl and twirl around him. Nope! He’s not! He fights and hunts and gets on with the ladies. Lol. First half is action-packed while the latter half seals the deal with more cute and romance.

The battle to be the King’s lady in Gui Zhong Mei Ren

Oh krap. This feeling is not good. When everything looks gorgeous and grand and then the chemistry between the leads is off. WAHHHH. WHY! I love Vic and all but his two leading ladies look like his little sisters… They really picked the youngest of the lot to be his OTP.
