Unofficial Season 4 of Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty: Strange Chronicles of Tang with the same cast announces premiere date

Strange Chronicles of Tang (唐诡奇谭) is the unofficial season 4 in the Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty universe. Why? I think it’s because the number four in Mandarin (and Cantonese) sounds very similar to the word death and is considered unlucky. In any case, Season 4 is a transitional drama to bridge Season 3 and Season 5 with the same cast. The format is also different –  with 21 episodes and roughly 20 minutes each episode to cover 2 more stories in the universe. There are also vertical and horizontal dramas as well called Strange Chronicles of Tang: The Chang’an Detective (already aired on 11/23) and Strange Chronicles of Tang: The Nine Tiered Labyrinth with a different cast (though Yang Zhi Gang is in Nine).

FYI, Season 3 just ended its run in November.

Yang Xu Wen and Yang Zhi Gang come back for more Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty 3: To Changan

Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty 3: To Changan (唐朝诡事录之长安) is adapted from the novel Records of Strange Events in the Tang Dynasty written by Wei Feng Hua. This is the third installment to the franchise, starring the same leading stars. In the latest development, Lu Ling Feng and Su Wu Ming reunite in Chang An to uncover dark secrets hidden beneath its glittering streets and try their best to evade the power struggle between the emperor and the Grand Princess.

I keep saying I will check out this supernatural mystery detective drama but each time I check back, they have a new season! I guess I can wait until they end things. Lol. Has new seasons been able to keep up with Season 1 fans?

Airing 11/8~

Yang Xu Wen releases fourth drama of the year in Double Track Puzzle with Wang Yan Hui

Double Track Puzzle (黑白局) is a modern crime drama, set to premiere today 9/5 on youku with 20 episodes.

Synopsis per Youku: Zhan Peng’s father was a railway policeman who was posthumously honored as a martyr for his sacrifice many years ago. Influenced by that, Zhan Peng had always aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps and serve in the very same station where his father once worked. However, when he finally arrived in Xiaotong and began his duties, he discovered that the situation there was far more complex than he had imagined. Upon first meeting Tu Hongjiang, he did not trust this veteran police officer. Tu Hongjiang’s suspicious behaviors during the handling of a drug trafficking case even made Zhan Peng wary of him. However, as time passed, Tu Hongjiang proved his innocence through his actions. As they worked together on cases, Zhan Peng gradually developed respect for Tu Hongjiang, and the two eventually joined forces to apprehend the mastermind behind the crimes.

Just when you think 3 dramas is a lot…hehe there’s always an overachiever (I know that the actor can’t choose the airing time keke.) His other 3 dramas are Eternal Brotherhood Season 2, The Great Lin Qian Jin (short), and Contenders (short).

Eternal Brotherhood Season 2 with Yang Xu Wen, Liu Yu Ning, and Zhang Ming En confirms broadcast date

Liu Yu Ning’s The Prisoner of Beauty hasn’t even finished airing yet but his next drama, Eternal Brotherhood Season 2 (紫川·光明王), is already on the rotation to air! I didn’t watch Season 1 so can’t vouch much for its reputation. It looks action-packed though.

Per Qiyi: Season 1 is set in the turbulent land of Zichuan, where the clans of Zichuan and Sairong are engaged in intense warfare. Zichuan Xiu (played by Yang Xuwen), stationed at the border, returns to the capital with remarkable military achievements, bringing a momentary peace to his homeland. However, new challenges arise as Yang Minghua, a prominent court official with sinister intentions, launches a rebellion. Zichuan Xiu, along with his sworn brothers Di Lin (played by Liu Yuning) and Siyi Lin (played by Zhang Ming’en), takes action to eliminate the threat and restore tranquility to Zichuan. Yet, as the dust settles, the aggressive Sairong officially declares war on Zichuan. Amidst the flames of war, the three brothers venture far from their homeland to defend their territory, protect their loved ones, and strive for peace, composing a passionate and magnificent story.
