Yang Zi’s The Destiny of White Snake wraps up filming after 139 days

The stills we have seen so far are mostly bubbly and very cute but the latest batch shows that angst and heartbreak is in store for our love birds. The Destiny of White Snake features Chusen package deal (Yang Zi, Ren Jia Lun, Shu Chang, and Mao Zi Jun) in hopefully their last collaboration for a while. Don’t get me wrong, I love these people but I would like to see them work with…like OTHER PEOPLE TOO! Seems like it is a new story and not a remake after all. A cultivating doctor saves a little white snake and she gathers enough cultivation power to become human. They grow close and to help him become a celestial being she breaks a heavenly seal, accidentally releasing chaos and destruction to the human world. To save the world, she sacrifices herself and our doc also disintegrates. Many years pass by and they are reunited with their memories returned. But to be together is going against the norm. Monk Fa Hai is also awakened and his rivals-turned-lovers story with Green Snake doesn’t bear a happy ending.

New stills of The Destiny of White Snake with Yang Zi and Ren Jia Lun

The new adaptation of the classic Chinese legend Madam White Snake featuring Yang Zi and Allen Ren Jia Lun is officially called The Destiny of White Snake (天乩之白蛇传说). I don’t see the fantasy and mythical element yet from the new stills but maybe they’re keeping her snake form hidden from us on purpose! The styles are very simple and colors pleasant to the eyes.

New Madame White Snake confirms Yang Zi, Ren Jia Lun, Mao Zi Jun

GAH. I know I laugh about the package deal before but this is getting a bit ridiculous. When you enter a new production, do you want to see the same faces for 4 consecutive times? New Madame White Snake (天乩之白蛇传说) held its booting ceremony this morning and it’s led by Yang Zi (not present), Allen Ren Jia Lun, Mao Zi Jun, and He Du Juan (The Good Fellas, The Gods).

Hunan introduces Child Actors through Madame White Snake

Interesting direction. Hunan’s remake of The Legend of White Snake aired last week to successful ratings, providing hope to their other serial remakes such as Third Sisters Liu, The White Haired Girl, etc…. They are using this chance to introduce potential child actors found through the program Star of Tomorrow. Much as it is a tribute to classic television works, it also aims to educate the younger actors and audience of traditional customs, without putting pressure and tailored training to the batch of fresh faces and allowing them to act as they feel. They are between the ages of 6-12. When I say potential, the program director clarified that the kids chosen don’t necessarily go into acting as a career. It’s sorta like a summer program for most of them.

Remake of Legend of Madame White Snake 2016 teases Posters

Another remake in town. This one will strike a chord with older fans because the most popular version is Taiwanese drama, New Legend of Madame White Snake (新白娘子传奇) released in 1992 starring three beautiful actresses in Angie Chiu, Cecilia Yip, and Maggie Chen. The production even invited former costume designer, Wu Bao Ling, to work on the new series after 23 years. Whoa.
