I thought it would be darker and more angsty and typical (with the misunderstandings and hero betrayed by good friend.) But Bai Bai He appears to have a good head on her shoulders so our hero, William Chan, has much to do to really seduce her. Ha. Only Side By Side With You (南方有乔木) is an upcoming modern drama adapted from the novel written by Xiao Hu Ru Wei.

Upcoming republican drama, Shanghai Picked Flowers (十里洋场拾年花), has quietly began filming with Peter Sheng Yi Lun as the sole leading male and Qin Hai Lu as one of the invited female stars (this is not what you think it is, LOL). The story remains vague so far as we only know the story is set in the glamorous 1920s Shanghai, following our male lead’s transformation from a rookie reporter to a full-grown news writer, detailing the interesting lives of the female stars he meets, starting with Miss Qin Hai Lu, and making rounds (every 3 episodes) to other female stars including Siqin Gaowa, Ma Su, Chen Zi Han, and etc.
Adapted from Chen Zhong Shi’s novel of the same name, White Deer Plain (白鹿原) was also made into a film in 2012. The drama adaptation stars many heavy weight veterans such as Zhang Jia Yi, Qin Hai Lu, Liu Pei Qi, and along with several youthful faces such as Li Qin, Deng Lun, and Zhai Tian Lin. The novel is considered one of many Chinese literary treasures, diving into the generational wars and clashes of evolving beliefs and values held esteemed in the small village known as White Deer Village, focusing on two big families – the Bai and the Lu.
