The Mysterious Thief Yamaneko: Episode 1 “The Team.”

Checking out a few Japanese dramas this season because you know I love variety. Up first is The Mysterious Thief Yamaneko. I first came because I saw Hiroki Narimiya name in the cast list and then the synopsis caught my attention – about a thief who robs the rich for the poor? Sounds like an underdog story right up my alley. But after episode 1, I’m unsure whether I want to proceed. It started out quirky…then went darker and then got a little bit disturbing by the end.

Japanese Manga Mars gets a new drama adaptation in 2016

If you don’t know or remember, Mars was a hit Taiwanese drama back in 2004 starring Vic Zhou and Barbie Hsu. It’s based on a Japanese Manga, Mars, written by Fuyumi Soryo. It’s one of the few darker Twdramas at the time. The funny thing is… I don’t remember much about the middle-ending of this series. I watched when I was still a teen and never rewatch it since then… The one thing I did remember is the beautiful soundtrack, the songs still in my mp3 player! The new adaptation comes from Japan and they have cast Taisuke Fujigaya as Rei (Vic’s role), Marie Iitoyo as Kira (Barbie’s) and Masataka Kubota as Tatsuya (Xiu Jie Kai’s). The new drama is called Mars ~Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru (Mars ~But, I Love You~) and premieres on January 24th.

2014 was an odd, odd year. And I use that in a way that makes litotes stand up and clap in awe. Many many bad things happened. Many weird things happened.

And then it got weirder.

I didn’t watch a single Korean or Japanese drama past the first episode. None. Now this may not seem like an extraordinary event to you, but as a person who has religiously watched dramas ever since Meteor Garden aired (at the grand old age of 9, folks), I am sure that the end of the world is soon to come. And I’m convinced, that unless I find a good drama to watch in 2015, imma be struck by lightening. And I know ya’ll think I’m joking but I get jumpy when hear the crackle of static from my sweater, so let’s hope something good comes up soon.

Anyway, as a hopeful glance to the near future, let’s recount all the promises in store for us:

Nobunaga Concerto: Episode 1 “A hero who runs away.”

Firstly, let’s get the obvious aging itch off of our chest. Shun, man. Next time you receive a script that calls for a teen role, hand the script to me. Lol. I’d find an age-appropriate Japanese actor to take the part and spare you the ongoing laughs by your peers (I’m seeing Nino’s tiny fingers pointing.) 😀 Anyway, now that we are done with the complaint, I have to say I enjoyed the premiere episode of Nobunaga Concerto, a drama adaptation of the manga series, “Nobunaga Kontseruto” by Ayumi Ishii. I found myself laughing hysterically in certain scenes and I went in NOT expecting it to be funny at all.
