A Movie and Drama Adaptation of the same novel Da Qiao Xiao Qiao by Zhang Yue Ran

Okay, Ya’ll are gonna laugh at me when I tell you this. I was writing two separate posts for each of the adaptation, thinking they have no relations until it clicked today that they are sourced from the same novel! Featuring my lovely girls too! William, you lucky dog! Lol.

In any case, the short novel Da Qiao Xiao Qiao / Big Qiao, Little Qiao (大乔小乔) follows the life of younger sister Xu Yan, who was born during the one-child policy period and hence caused a lot of heartache for the family. She was sent to live with grandma while her parents worked really hard to petition against the punishment of an additional birth; they slowly lost everything and became a joke. Older sister is Qiao Lin and she loves her younger sister. Younger sister, on the other hand, always secretly desires the public life of her sister. Unfortunately, elder sister committed suicide after her boyfriend abandoned her and she left behind a baby in Xu Yan’s care. This is the moment when Xu Yan started to re-evaluate her life.

As always with adaptations, there will be changes. The movie seems to be more dark and atmospheric, playing up the tension between the sisters, while the drama seems to play up the romance aspect (as expected when you have two hot commodities sizzling up the scenes, 😛 )

You can read the short novel at Midnight Scrolls.

Movie: The Unseen Sister (乔妍的心事) with Zhao Li Ying and Xin Zhi Lei.

Drama: Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼) with Zhao Lu Si, William Chan, Wan Peng, and Tang Xiao Tian.

My Little Happiness with Xing Fei and Tang Xiao Tian announces broadcast date

My Little Happiness (我的小确幸) is adapted from the novel written by Dong Ben Xi Gu and stars Xing Fei and Tang Xiao Tian as childhood friends who are reunited as adults. Our heroine was sent to study abroad by her mother, hoping she would settle in the states. But she sneaks back home and becomes a legal intern. She meets old friend who is now a successful surgeon but doesn’t recognize him at first. They become neighbors (him being the landlord to boot) and the battle of wits continue between the two. Maybe she’s a legal consult for the hospital so that’s why they work together a lot? Lol.

I can get behind this couple. The age difference helps in this case, he’s a general so being older is okay. The story sounds typical so it’s up to the characters to make it vibrant for us!
