I remember the first time they announced the cast and I skimmed through the novel which features a number of unpleasant things that takes place in the heroine’s life, I wasn’t thrilled at all! Cry Me A Sad River is adapted from the novel written by Guo Jing Ming and unlike the too dark and pessimistic events (gang rape, teen abortion, suicide), the drama will lighten things up, focusing on the mentality of young adults in today’s society. Ma Tian Yu and Zheng Shuang are described as a pair of best friends; he is a well-loved class president from a well-to-do family, while she’s a down on the her luck, poor student. They enter the work force and their differences arise, but no matter how far one goes, a turn of the head is all it takes for their warmth to re-connect.
I just really, really, really, dislike novels that put everyone through the wringer, especially the female lead. This is dog’s blood type of drama that I don’t even want to skim it. It’s so controversial that it needed to be heavily edited before it gets the green light to enter production. They held a press conference a few days ago, confirming Zheng Shuang as their female lead, and just a few hours ago, the drama weibo has officially followed its male lead – Ma Tian Yu (along with GJM and ZS). The original story features…. gang rape (!!), teen abortion, suicide, etc. O_O. It’s a painful love story about four kids in high school. They are in high school…Aigoo… Guo Jing Ming explains he wanted to write about how fast kids are maturing these days and how selfish they are with them not showing gratitude for things, coupled with a growing sense of teenage rebellion. All the emotions escalating into extreme situations, like water gathering into a ditch.
I’m supposed to packing for my trip! Not harrumph-ing over such news. XD
Rush to the Dead Summer (夏至未至) is adapted from Guo Jing Ming’s novel. The youthful story spans the period of ten years and focuses on friendship, alienation, and one ultimate betrayal that breaks the group of close friends, each going their own way and entering society. Despite growing up poor and kind, our heroine (Zheng Shuang) works hard and wins a scholarship into a grand secondary school (sounds familiar?) where she meets a talented painter-to-be (Cheney Chen) and his best friend (Bai Jing Ting). Of course, love blooms in more ways than one.
So far, the promos have been summery and cheerful, but they do promise a summer of laughters and tears. *gulps*
