New stills released for fantasy drama Liao Zhai with Zhang Miao Yi and Chang Hua Sen as it wraps up filming

Liao Zhai (聊斋) is adapted from the classical Chinese stories collection Liao Zhai Zhi Yi by Pu Song Ling. My version of Liao Zhai was from TVB’s Dark Tales 1 and 2 in the 1990s. Lol.

From TMDB, the synopsis: A mysterious beauty’s severed head appears in the bustling marketplace. A fox spirit, trapped in the treacherous depths of human desire, struggles to escape her fate. When the Judge of the Underworld descends to swap heads and hearts, chaos erupts. A paper doll awakens to life with the final stroke of a brush, a wooden puppet grows a beating heart, and a withered tree stirs with forbidden longing. In this world where the boundaries between flesh and fantasy blur, ancient magic and human folly collide—revealing that even the most lifeless things may hunger for a soul.

This version will adapt 6 stories from the collection.

Xianxia drama Chong Zi releases first batch of character posters, led by Xu Zheng Xi and Yang Chao Yue

Chong Zi (重紫) is based on the novel written by Shu Ke. The story is almost identical to Hua Qian Gu, with the romance being between a highly-respected immortal male lead who takes in our innocent female lead born with the dark force, fated to join the dark side, as his disciple. She does not want to harm anyone but everyone takes turn to torture/harm her just because of her dark force. Her shifu wants to protect her and the world, but he struggles to do both. The difference that I found between this and HQG is that in here, there are multiple life times/reincarnations, so she does die a few times, even at the hands of the man she completely adores.

Novel-to-drama adaptation of Chong Zi begins filming with leads Xu Zheng Xi and Yang Chao Yue

And I thought Xiao Zhan’s The Longest Promise (Yu Gu Yao) sounds like The Journey of Flower (Hua Qian Gu), and here comes Chong Zi to take that candle instead. Lol.

Has anyone read both novels and be able to spill more beans? 😛

Zhang Zhe Han and Gong Jun’s Tian Ya Ke changes name to Word of Honor ahead of broadcast

Word of Honor (山河令) is adapted from the novel written by Priest (Legend of Fei) called Faraway Wanderers/Tian Ya Ke (天涯客). It has confirmed the two male leads to be Zhang Zhe Han and Gong Jun, followed by Zhou Ye, Ma Wen Yuan, Guo Jia Hao and Zhao Qian. The story follows our two male leads. One of them is Zhou Zi Shu to be played by Zhang Zhe Han. He’s the leader of Tian Chuang, an intelligence gatherers and assassins who served only the Emperor. It’s hard to get in and harder to get out; through a punishment leaving you either disabled or dead, but our leader yearns for a different life and does successfully get out. Our other male lead is Wen Ke Xing, played by Gong Jun. Very similar life trajectory to his other half; he’s the Master of Ghost Pavilion, a hush-hush place known to jianghu as containing the most cruel and evil of humans. Our temperamental Master of the Ghost Pavillion is also tired of this life and wishes to get out. They get entangled in jianghu’s latest chaos when a teenage boy is out for revenge and attaches himself to the unwilling Zi Shu and calls him Shifu. Lol. And that’s when I stopped reading the novel. Knowing how adaptations usually turn out, the less I know, the less angry I’ll be down the road. 😛

Airing 2/22 with a total of 36 episodes.

Here we go! The first BL drama to air!

Faraway Wanderers: Priest’s novel-to-drama adaptation confirms Zhang Zhe Han and Gong Jun

Looks like after the success of The Untamed (陈情令), the new trend is adapting more boy-love novels into dramas. Lol. And that’s all I have gotten to.

Love Is All with Zhang Ruo Nan and Zhang Hao Wei to air

Love Is All (师爷请自重) is an ancient romcom based on the novel written by a familiar name in Jiu Xiao Qi (My Mr. Mermaid, Skate Into Love) starring Zhang Ruo Nan (Cry Me a Sad River) and Zhang Hao Wei (Joy Of Life). She is a quirky, wealthy miss who frequently quarrels with the county magistrate, our main guy. Using their brains, the two team up to solve cases. Hmm, that is the shortest baidu synopsis I have seen in a while. The author has written quite a lot of light-hearted comedies which mostly translated well onscreen with positive reception. Hoping this is the same!

Airing on 4/25!
