First Impressions: Jiu Liu Overlord (Cdrama, 2020)

It’s been a while since there was a C-drama airing that piqued my interest. But I’ve been impatiently waiting for this particular drama to start airing and it was the best birthday present ever when it started last week. I became a fan of Bai Lu after I saw her in King Is Not Easy. And I think by now everyone knows I’ve had a bit of a crush on Lai Yi since his turn as the hotty doctor on Legend of Fuyao. So I was definitely eager to see him finally take the lead again in a drama. So far Jiu Liu Overlord has not disappointed.

Social classes clashed in Bai Lu and Lai Yi’s Jiu Liu Overlord

Jiu Liu Overlord (九流霸主) is an upcoming period drama starring Bai Lu and Lai Yi. The story takes place during the Tang dynasty and our heroine is street-smart trader, the leader of the Longzhu gang. Our hero on the other hand is a business tycoon/silk merchant in the city to showcase his fine garments. As they work together, she learns the ways of trading from him, and he gets rids of his prejudices against the lower class. However, his secret identity is revealed – a prince! To protect the common people and the person he loves, he returns to the palace. Our heroine follows along, to give the higher up folks a piece of her mind.

Airing 10/23!

First stills of Chang Ge Xing with Dilireba, Wu Lei, Zhao Lu Si, and Liu Yu Ning

Chang Ge Xing aka Song of the Long March (長歌行) is adapted from the manhua of the same name written by Xia Da. It follows our heroine, who’s a princess on the run. Her father is Crown Prince Li but after the new Emperor ascended the throne, he ordered his brothers and families put to death. She escapes, fakes her own death, disguises herself as a male and plots her revenge against the new Emperor, becoming a fierce military leader in the process. The manhua is highly rated among fans and has solid rating of 9 on douban. Readers also poured their hearts out for the arts as well.

Reviews are promising, our heroine sounds awesome – merciless and highly intelligent. Since she was young, she was trained in martial arts and battle strategies, so she holds her own in a fight. Our male protagonist is no less of a worthy character – he’s the adopted son of Jieli Khan, a leader of his own army, who is known for his ruthlessness and doing things his ways in the beginning. He slowly melts that attitude and begins to realize how his actions could affect those around him after meeting our leading lady. But he doesn’t know SHE is a SHE for a little bit. HEH.

Zhang Yun Long and Kan Qing Zi for Special Beautiful Man

Remember Zhang Han and Gui Gui’s supernatural drama A Different Kind of Pretty Man 2 years ago? Well, as told then, we have a part 2….not following the first storyline, and it’s called Special Beautiful Man 2 (不一样的美男子Ⅱ). Lol. No complaints from me since Zhang Yun Long is leading it with another crew of boys. If anything, listen to the opening themesong, it’s such a catchy song! Been jamming since I heard of it.

It’s FRIDAY!

Look who’s playing catch-up. It took me a while to write this post. Trust me when I say I REALLY want to like this drama, it has an interesting premise but the execution of the story doesn’t raise anticipation or curiosity, since we already know many facts before the characters, which makes everything less suspenseful for us.

If you love this show with the intensity of a thousand suns, please don’t burn down my post. 😛 I encourage discussion as long as people are peaceful!
