Do I need to recap?

Ne Zha is the big blockbuster Donghua (animated film) from China, based on Ne Zha. Everybody knows Ne Zha. This sequel picks up exactly where Part 1 left off. So before watching this one, I recommend you watch Part 1 first. It’s the superior half. You can watch it below after the review!

Anyways, the plot is pretty basic, our hero goes on a quest to get a magic potion to save his friend, only to meet a conspiracy that shatters his world.

How’s that for a logline? Take that to the bank. And the filmmakers took it to the bank, literally; they made millions. It’s only the highest box office film ever.

Again, in my opinion, Part 1 was the better movie because it felt more complete, and the plot was better. This sequel does deliver on bigger action. And it’s quite the spectacle. Ne Zha 2 features some of the most epic visual showcases I’ve seen in any animated film. It’s pretty amazing. And there are just so many cool action set pieces and designs, I can go on forever just praising the visuals.

The characters are fun, just like the first one, so there’s nothing for me to complain about in terms of characters.

The pacing can be a bit choppy at times, but that’s more to do with the plot, not so much the scenes.

All in all, I think it’s an enjoyable movie for all ages. It’s a bit long, but it doesn’t drag. I feel it goes by fairly fast.

Lots of nasty jokes, but they are more childish than they are disturbing. Okay, the cannibal stuff might be a bit disturbing. But it involves demons, so that’s normal.

Ne Zha and his buddy Ice Dragon Boy carry the movie. Just like the first film, they are the stars of the show. They’re great.

All in all, Ne Zha 2 is a fun film to watch.

I’m giving Part 2 a 7 out of 10. Part 1 gets a 9 out of 10. Watch them both back to back; it helps.
