First Impression: Fated Hearts Episode 1-17 “Nobody dies from an arrow to the chest.”

I was sick this past week and decided to pick up a drama and boy was this a wild ride. However, I am enjoying this immensely. It doesn’t do anything to annoy me which is a huge plus because I get ticked off pretty easily. The plot moves along swiftly and there’s always something going on. It doesn’t dumb down or weaken my female general to let the male lead shine; as a matter of fact, she has had several intense fights even with an injured arm and held her own! I like that in my girls. Male lead comes in to reap the benefits but I feel that is a choice on his part. Heh.

We open the story immediately in the middle of a battle between the two kingdoms. Male lead is Feng Sui Ge, First Prince of Susha, and female lead is Fu Yi Xiao, a general from Jinxiu. She shoots two arrows back-to-back in quick succession, and male lead is shot right in the chest. He falls off his horse and his army is now without their leader. He loses the battle. Or so we think. And I love that this battle has so many layers for us to peel!

A few hours later, our female lead is also shot in the chest. LOL. No worries, no one dies. Tis a small wound. 😛 She falls off a cliff, hitting her head on the branches and breaking her fall. The only caveat now is…. she has lost her memory! And this is our story for the first half of the drama; our heroine navigating in enemy’s territory to seek out the truth behind who shot her and why.

She’s saved by a pretty female doctor who eventually becomes her friend and close sister in murky times.

Now… the iffy part that made me want to stop initially is the whipping and torture of our girl when she falls into the Feng Sui Ge’s hands. I know, I know, they are enemies, so it’s not like he could invite her in for cookies and tea but he knows she has lost her memory! The moment that prodded me along was our girl saying…the number 47. Immediately, I knew she was counting the number of times they whipped her. I was like… oh yea, this is gonna be good. I also like that the male lead admitted later that he was harsh towards her.

I don’t condone violence here but…all debts must be paid. It’s only fair, yunno?

Out of the whole cast, I have only seen Li Qin onscreen. And finally, she gets to play a role to showcase her fierceness and vulnerabilities. She has the sharp eyes and blood-boiling expression down to the T. And honestly, I was not onboard with her coupling with Chen Zhe Yuan since he looks very boyish/young next to her. But they have convinced me otherwise with their simmering chemistry. It did take time to build and in hindsight, I kinda appreciate that in a way.

Here she is returning the whipping… personally. Heh. He seals the deal too by returning the vampire bite to the neck. XD

If I thought Chen Zhe Yuan was young, we get introduced to the second male lead Xia Jing Shi and I’m dying. Hmmm. He’s not doing it for me here. Nothing about him screams war-torn general. He’s not menacing at all. I’m supposed to believe this poisoned puppy is capable of torturing young kids to become death warriors to serve his purpose? Eh. Plus, the director’s habit of showing people’s hands when they’re stressed/angry is not helping him at all. His hands are as pale as my sourdough bread. I don’t think he has seen the sun more than 10 minutes in his life. Let him act with this face, please!

Did I tell you this has to be the prettiest fall ever?? It looks quite realistic and she’s stunning.

Our girl casually offering to off the empress and her father for the male lead under the bright moon, their boat surrounded by good-feel lanterns; she’s a vibe. Lol.

And the King. He’s so gentle towards his daughter but so hard on our Prince. Now that I think about it, he hasn’t appointed a Crown Prince yet either. He frustrates me to no end because there are times when I think he’s only trying to toughen up male lead to hand over the throne in the future, but then we see male lead breaking the official’s neck like he’s a toy. I don’t think he needs more tough love. Lol. Plus, the flashbacks of how he ordered the prince to be slapped until he called the new stepmom “mother” is heartbreaking. How could you be so cruel to a baby who has just lost his light/mother? Sigh. But the father and son’s confrontations is a hoot to watch, so much explosive antagonism.

Did I say King is a hot papa? Him in that black velvet/suede gown? My my!

The Prince’s biological sister, Feng Xi Yang. Another sigh here. When she was first introduced, she appears quite sensible, saying that she understands all of them have royal responsibilities and that they owe the people what they have. I was like nice, nice, a good reasonable sister. Then in order to establish peace between the two kingdoms, she’s arranged to marry Xia Jing Shi. Okay, so the girl met this man for a total of 5 minutes in the past and feels that he is the love of her life. She defies her brother and wants to get married. I don’t hate her completely because she’s still pretty young (19 the drama says) and for many young minds, love rises and conquers all. But I wish she uses her brain a bit more. The walking red flag tells her to her FACE that he can treat her respectfully, but he will never love her. Yet without hesitation, she agrees to marry him anyway, thinking she can change him.

NONONONONONONONO. First mistake in a girl’s love life. Thinking they can change a man. I hope she has some character developments in the future. She is so loved and spoiled that the only way to learn…is to learn it the hard way.

Wedding day.

I can’t stop laughing at the King side-eying his son-in-law the entire time. LOL.

King: 😒😒😒😒😒 Me: 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

She lights up seeing her brother.

He’s a good brother to his sister (and brother from a different mother).

Our hero makes a wolf clay doll for female lead, claiming the entire time that he needed to look at her carefully to make a good doll. What an adorable a$$. Whoever voices for Chen Zhe Yuan needs to get paid more, really helped sell his authority.

“With you, I never feel the need to hide anything. I’m really happy to have met you in this life.” Awww, its because she’s as crazy as you. <3<3<3

“Save those sweet words for your wedding night!”

“Alright. It’s a deal then.”

EEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. That was smooth, dude.

“Yi Xiao, have you ever thought about what kind of man you want to marry?”

Wedding night and Xi Yang is ready to rip off her husband’s clothes. GIRL! What have you been reading in the palace? Lol.

She’s so desperate to help him escape this cage (palace), she stole her father’s royal seal. And again, Xia Jing Shi reminds her she doesn’t have to do anything for him. For all that is worth, this man has never lied to the princess.

Getting out of the palace proves easy but they are faced with the relentless chase led by Big Bro. In despair, Xi Yang threatens to kill herself if big brother doesn’t let them leave. “He will treat me well!”

During the chaos between big bro and little sister, Xia Jing Shi shoots at them, and our female archer in red appears at the top of the commotion to knock his arrow out of the way. Nice, nice. She’s fulfilling her promise!

Oh silly prince, trying to test his importance in her life still? He continues to shoot at Feng Sui Ge and the lady in red does not hesitate to send an arrow directly to his chest. Lucky for him, silly boy Wei Ran takes the shot! But no worries, like many others, I don’t think he’s gonna die. At this point, they might as well aim at the ankle to kill someone. Rofl.

Hopeless about convincing his sister, big bro lets them leave….

Poor man, he can’t even bear to look at her anymore.

I love the out of focus and back into the focus shots here. I also love that neither of them have to say anything during the confrontation to understand what they have to do.

Our couple fussing over each other’s injuries and she grabs his collar and blurts out, “Even if I become a wreck, I won’t regret it! Because I have long had a thing for you!” Overwhelmed by the confession, he plants one on her! YESHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Oh no, not the wide-eyed fish kiss!!

He pulls back to look at her before going back in to do the me kiss justice. Thank goodness, you two juicy-lips people scared me!

Heck yea, the northern lights! What, where are we? Lol. I accept it. Gleefully.

I’m gonna end on this high note because it’s a wonderful place to stop, with them starting their couple era, and his sister starting her own journey in foreign land. I hope they can continue the momentum and stick the landing (ending). Most endings these days suck because they either rush or leave it open. I say no to both okay. You have done pretty well in the first half, let’s do it for the latter.

What do you think?
