This is our female lead in her human form. HUMAN FORM? Yes! She’s half demon and half human! During the great fire 18 years ago, the Cat Lord of the Demon World died protecting his realm, and before he died, he passed down his wonderful kitty genes to the wandering lost human girl. It must be fate. Not just any girl, she’s the sister of the current Queen, so the whole city of Chang An is her playground. She runs the demon world with Snake Lord. Because she’s only half demon, she doesn’t have any powers during the day.

At first I though she’s just playing out the cat behavior, lazing around all day but when you think about, it makes sense why she’s around sleeping around during the day time. Girl doesn’t have time to sleep! She’s busy in the morning being human and badass, then at night, she’s wandering around to catch strayed demons and put them back where they belong.

And this is her Cat Lord visual. Whoever cast Tian Xi Wei is spot on. Her round, big eyes and slender body perfectly captures the cat spirit inside out.

She doesn’t play around, what you see is what you get!

Don’t know why I thought Snake Lord was gonna be a guy so imagine my face when a beautiful girl showed up! I love, love, love how it’s the two girls working together to protect the demon realm. Unfortunately, I don’t think she’s being used much up until this point. I want to see her more! Unlike Cat Lord, she’s a full demon and has been living for about 200 years.

What could have been if they utilize her more! Just look at them! Drinking and being catty together!

The first demon case is a cute one… a pair of gold earrings inhaling enough energy to become spirits/demons. But the male one wants to have fun and explore Chang An by himself, allowing the female earring to go bat**** crazy. Lol. She did get help from the evil energy source though.

And here’s our male lead! He’s a virgin demon slayer from the academy of demon slayers palace. Lol. Name is Mei Zhu Yu. One thing that I have to lament is the lack of more talisman animation, the few we saw was pretty nice. I would have liked to see more. He follows the teaching of his academy really well and that is to avoid all feelings and worldly matters. As a matter of fact, he has one mission in mind and that is to find the culprit behind his parents’ demise, which happened to take place during the big bad fire too.

And there you have – one of my favorite tropes: she’s a demon and he’s demon slayer! Otteeekee!! The angst should be good but the show is dragging the identity reveal a bit too long for my liking.

If you think about it, they are both doing essentially the same thing, protecting their realms from chaos. Our male lead has shown that he does have compassion for some demons who are not evil so maybe finding out she’s a good demon wouldn’t hurt so bad? It’s not like he isn’t hiding the fact he’s a demon slayer too! Hello, two way streets here.

The second demon case is a heart-wrenching one. Glass lantern turned human but is fooled by a greedy man. Known for her poetry talents in the brothel, she’s approached by a man, promising her love and promoting her talents. He takes her works as his own and discards her to the side.

The royal family. This emperor cracks me up. He’s henpecked by his two wives. LOL. Instead of being happy he has two beautiful women, he’s upset that they spend sooooooo much time together and neglect him. hehehe.

While our virgin demon slayer thinks he’s above feelings and women, he finds himself in the constant company of our girl, who isn’t shy about flirting with him. I love his gentle demeanor. No matter how many times she tries to disassemble him, he’s always a big old gentleman. The scene below is the official start of my shipping of these two. She recognizes his loneliness and wants to share every ounce of happiness with him. When a butterfly crosses their path, she gently places it on his hair.

And he breaks into the smallest smile ever. We see you, virgin boy!!

Another favorite OTP moment of mine. She tells him, “What I believe is… one must have desires to live a good life. Young Master, do whatever you desire.” This is clearly a new perspective to him. Have feelings? Have desires? I was told to live like a virgin! But lookie! Seduced already! These old teachings should really let their girls and boys explore their feelings before committing to monkhood. That will give better results, me thinks.

Our Cat Lord is no pushover. She fights all the day long and casually slumps into his embrace. He’s all This is not appropriate My Lady. But that tune also changes real fast. 😛

And this is book demon, A Shu, assistant to the Cat Lord, currently impregnated by the evil infant bone, so turning villain is in his future. He’s known to be harsh to everyone but Cat Lord. As you can tell, he’s our second lead. His mission right now is to help Cat Lord become a full demon. His other task is to side-eye all her pursuers. heh.

This is our female lead as a kid collecting hearts of broken boys. Both the book demon and her adopted cousin. Book demon kid version bears striking resemblance to his older self! Great casting!

Before I forget, this is Mei Si. Yes, another Mei family member in love with a demon. His target is the Snake Lord and he doesn’t know of her identity yet.
