The Glory (雁回時) is adapted from the novel written by Qian Shan Cha Ke.
From WETV: Zhuang Han Yan, abandoned and raised in the southern countryside since childhood, eventually returns to the Zhuang family in the capital, attracting the attention of Fu Yun Xi.
Fu Yun Xi is afflicted with a strange illness and seeks to marry a woman of both virtue and talent to entrust his family and friends. Zhuang Han Yan, with her exceptional courage and kind heart, becomes his ideal choice. As Zhuang Han Yan and Fu Yun Xi fall in love during their mutual testing and maneuvering, Han Yan reconciles with her mother, rediscovering the lost family bond. Sigh, another cdrama with a great hook but the plot turns out to be stringier than a plate of pasta. The acting is passable (mild overacting and underacting from a few folks but nothing egregious), the costumes are gorgeous, and it’s all elevated by good cinematography. But the script is mediocre.
It’s the same issue I had with Blossom, more style than substance, where the 宅斗 feels like child’s play. The pacing is quick enough but on closer look, everything’s on rails and it doesn’t hold up.
I’m also puzzled that this is based on yet another Qian Shan Cha Ke’s work but other than the characters names, the plot seems to be totally different. Just going off the synopsis as it’s one of her novels I’ve not read. But whatever, it’s just swapping out a set of tropes for another set of tropes.

It’s an age old problem in books, western tv series and even video games, but feels especially bad in cdramas since they’re typically so looooong. Give me back my time and emotional investment!!!
I’m sure QSCK is rolling in money right now though, good for them lol

I thought this was amazing and thoroughly kept me engaged and binging, checking for next eps..something I haven’t done for a show in awhile.
So far it’s a strong contender for best 2025 Cdramas.
Also a 7.0+ on Douban which is a good sign as they’re a hard bunch to please over there and most Cdramas fall below 7.0 on there.
