Leaked photos of Ding Yu Xi and Yang Chao Yue filming for The Seventh Generation (Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes)

Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes All Thanks to a Moment of Impulse (一时冲动,七世不祥) is adapted from the novel written by Jiu Lu Fei Xiang. For some reason, they haven’t officially announced the leads but leaks are out!

The novel sounds wicked fun! Female lead is a cloud fairy with no big ambition and spends her days preferably sleeping. Lol. She works for the stingy God of Moon (aka Yue Lao aka Matchmaker in Heaven) for very little money and intends on using that money to buy herself a fan. She’s napping peacefully one day when our male lead literally drops onto the carpet outside of the Moon’s temple. He asks for help in a disrespectful manner and has the audacity to try and whip her! Luckily…or in this case, unluckily, his whip ends up destroying her most coveted thing – her fan! Now he’s getting whooped. LOL. She ties up her hair, performs a measly spell to trap him, and then chomps on him with all her strength. 😛 He then pulls her hair! A full-on brawl takes place. In front of Jade Emperor, they are punished for messing up other people’s red strings of fate – by being sent to the mortal realm and experiencing 7 lifetimes of fated love. HOHOHO. As it turns out though, it was Yue Lao who messed up the strings the other day when he was drunk and our heroine is covering up for him. In the first lifetime, our girl smartly avoids having her memory wiped and swears to make the hero’s life a miserable existence. HHAHAH. She’s good. I’m very tempted to continue the novel but I want to enjoy the little surprises in the drama too.

I hope she moves her face this time. Her acting was very stiff in all her other shows. Had one expression the whole way through.

      Totally agree with you!
Such a shame since she’s a pretty girl, but can’t act at all…

        Oops sorry Kappy!

Actually it’s not only Yang Chaoyue that has this problem. There are many popular pretty leading ladies these days in Cdramas who look great but have like 1 default expression, so that if you take them out of context you can’t even tell what scene they’re supposed to be acting.

It’s almost like they’re too focused on being pretty and afraid to emote to “ruin” their pretty facial expression. If not, then they’re just so stiff and wooden that AI robots can emote more than they can.

It’s really unfortunate since there are many young actresses out there who can act so well (and are naturally pretty) but don’t have the opportunity to get better drama roles because they don’t have backing from people in high places.

To be honest, I rather watch someone who can act (emoting is the most basic requirement of acting OMG) and not being very pretty is perfectly fine. As the audience, I want to be pulled into the story, and wooden pretty dolls do nothing for this.

This applies to male actors too. I love watching beautiful guys but again, same problem, pretty faces but can’t act.

They have good chemistry in real life (lots of bickering) so I’m hoping it translates well onscreen!!

@Anon, yes I totally get the pretty acting…. JJY is top contender in that category. LOL

I’m just sad the female lead will be Yang Chao Yue. Her roles as female lead is not memorable even her minor roles were forgettable. But she is so pretty to look at. But it’s not enough because I absolutely love the novel to pieces, I had read it 5 times. She should just stick to singing 😆 nvm her singing is just as bad. Hopefully by now her acting has improved. I last seen her in Midsummer is Full of Love.

To me, the novel wasn’t as smack-in-your-face fun as the other stories written by Jiu Lu Fei Xiang, but there were some lifetimes I liked. I’m intrigued by the live action because there is a part the female lead got reborn as a lion cub and the male lead, a wild boar, I think, and I wonder if they’ll portray this on screen lol My favorite lifetime was when the male lead and the female lead got reborn as a cultivation sect leader and his disciple respectively. I usually don’t like the set-up of the hero as a dominant bully and a helpless heroine who is under his thumb, but their camaraderie was endearing regardless.

What do you think?
