Whoopsie! This post is nearly 2 weeks late. It was just sitting in my draft section as the airing dramas one after another distracted me. Lol.
Booting Ceremony 9/1:
=======> ♦ Fighting For Love is adapted from the novel Soldier A Mai (阿麦从军) written by Xian Cheng. The story follows our female lead after her family is killed by her childhood friend and first love (her family adopts him and he lives by her side for 8 years). As an adult, she conceals her identity as a girl and sets out to find him. Along the way, she saves Prince Shang Yi Zhi (actor Zhang Hao Wei), the Duke’s son, and they become friends, their lives intertwined. Thanks to her, he opens up and reveals his hidden talents and becomes a strong commander of an army, while she also joins the army when war breaks out and achieves multiple accomplishments. She slowly gains the nickname for herself as the God of War. Another emotional obstacle our heroine meets is her growing feelings for the commander of the opposing troops. Both have so much national responsibilities on their shoulders that they decide to part ways and fight for their own country. After the war, our female warrior finally resumes her identity as a woman and begins to pursue her life’s happiness. SPOILER: She does not end up with anyone in the novel. When asked where she’s headed, our female lead merely says she’s going to look for one of the male characters – according to review, he’s like a brother to her. The drama might be different, as always.
=======> ♦ Wuxia drama The Ingenious One (云襄传) is adapted from the first novel from the Qianmen series written by Fang Bai Yu. Qianmen sect is a secret organization created by some Emperor a long time ago. According to legends, many of the great strategists like Li Si, Han Xin, and Zhuge Liang studied at Qianmen Sect. So you see, Qianmen disciples weren’t known for their superior fighting skills but their superior intelligence and wits. The story in the first novel Qianmen Gong Zi follows our hero and we first meet him as an exiled scholar being dragged through the desert with other prisoners. He’s framed for rape but lady luck is with him, allowing him to meet the current Master of Qianmen who takes him under his wings. From a weak scholar whose belly is full of wordy righteousness and traditional courtesy, he transforms into a shameless Young Master who snorts with disdain at the so called morality of the people. He returns to jianghu, ready to stir up a storm with just his armored brain. This is called a wuxia drama but our male doesn’t know martial arts, so I see quite a few people describe him as being similar to Hu Ge’s character in Nirvana in Fire.
Drama Synopsis (Credit: Wulongcha for AVV): It tells the story of Yuntai disciple Yunxiang (Chen Xiao) who entered jianghu after ten years of practicing. In the process, he met several friends and gradually realized the warmth of friendship. During this time, Yunxiang also developed feelings for Shu Yanan (played by Mao Xiaotong), an eccentric, intelligent and alert woman. But the good times didn’t last long. Once Yunxiang started looking deeper into his tribe’s genocide, he unearthed some secrets, and the situation began to take a turn for the worse. Through it all, he experienced deception, betrayal, and life and death, and realized that Yuntai, which was once responsible for the well being of the people, has fallen. Yunxiang decided to stand up and defend the justice in his heart, even at the expense of himself.
