It’s decent. I like it, but not addicted. The production is pretty nice, and the acting good of course. The plot is pretty well paced without TOO much drag and I’m excited for Li Qin’s badass role. That said, the projection of the drama is pretty predictable and you already know some of the decisions the lead (Li Qin) is making now is gonna lead to a HUGE mess and angsty breakdown later and it’s a little like watching an angsty car wreck slowly coming your way. I don’t really have anything particular to complain about, but it’s just not really capturing my attention and keeping me motivated to watch while broadcast. I’ll prob wait until it’s all out to skip to the end and see if I care about where this drama is going and if it ends up hitting all my soft spots. Like, when the plot and tropes are predictable, it really comes down to if they hit all the guilty pleasure topes I have and make it the kind of angst I want… LMAO

So far ( a dozen episodes) nothing out of the ordinary. The usual headstrong, brainless heroine requiring rescue. Bland hero. Various unmemorable characters. Predictable storyline.

I like the drama so far, I hope Li Qin’s character doesn’t turn into a cry baby only listening to the male lead.

I’m really enjoying this drama. 90% of chinese dramas have the same/similar plot, but done really, really badly when it comes to characters. I’m not saying that the characters here are super complex, but at least I’m not screaming at the tv with the dumb stuff that normally comes out of the actors’ mouths. The conning seems to be pretty equal on old sides. Usually, the good guys can’t see past the obvious and the bad guys get away with everything until the very end. You get good push and pull in this story. You got a female characters who are smart, active, strong in very different ways and you don’t usually see that in cdramas. Women are either pushovers or only strong in a masculine way. You’ve got that in the main female character because of the way she’s been raised, but she’s slowly coming to understand there are other ways of being strong, and a good example is Zijin, the elder brother’s love interest. IDK, compared to most of the shows that’s been hyped this year (definitely excluding Winter Begonia and The Bad Kids), the characters have been caricatures. For a period drama, that’s always about the same thing- this is doing for me.

What do you think?
