First Impression: What do you think of Under the Power with Ren Jia Lun and Tan Song Yun?

Our lead characters play two investigative bureaus during the Ming Dynasty. He serves for the imperial secret police group called the Embroidered Uniform Guards and she’s a female Constable from Liu Shan Men, a government branch responsible for safety of the capital. Our two leads meet when funds raised to repair a river went missing and her people are tasked to provide assistance to his people. She’s of course huffy puffy about working under him and he’s too proud (son of the leader). Motivated by self-interests, he doesn’t treat her kindly and things come to a climax when she finds out that the Embroidered Uniform Guards were involved in her parents’ deaths.

I’m watching this. So far still watchable. Tan SongYun adorbs as usual. First-time watching RenJiaLun, he is ok though I wonder why is he so highly rated….

Ren Jia Lun did a pretty good job in his first lead role in Glory of Tang Dynasty. It was a risky move from the producers and director to cast a newbie in the lead role, but he delivered a solid performance.

Just finished 6 episodes. It is pretty entertaining to watch the two leads interact. It’s one of those classic tropes with the male lead being cold (with parental issues) while the female lead is the complete opposite. I wouldn’t say he’s completely warmed up to her yet, but it doesn’t take him long to realize that she’s actually quite smart and helpful to solving a case in some ways.

So, nothing really extraordinary but very watchable so far.

I love it! She is adorable and smart but not unrealistically spunky annoying. He is cold because of his job requirements but his acting is on point with all the micro-expressions – not frozen just arrogant and standoffish

I think this drama is underrated because it’s actually pretty good! The male and female leads are smart and badass and their chemistry is awesome.

Ren Jialun may not be the hottest looking guy but his acting is so good to make you believe that he IS the character (and forget about everything else). His expressions are subtle but so natural it doesn’t seem like he’s acting and just makes you believe he’s the badass that he is.

Tan Songyun has always been solid with her acting and she’s so lively and adorable here. She’s a perfect fit for our heroine because she’s tough and smart but also makes you feel so sorry for her in her moments of (emotional) weakness.

Not sure how the drama will go as more episodes come but so far so good!

Ren Jialun’s character is supposed to be badass and very good-looking and my point is that his acting is enough to make you believe he’s the hottest badass.

Kinda like how Mark Chao’s awesome acting as Ye Hua is enough to make you believe he’s the hottest guy in the world (which is what Ye Hua’s character description says)
