Chinese remake of Kdrama Signal led by Li Xiao Ran, Du Chun, and Wang Tian Chen

Unknown Number (时空来电) is the Chinese remake of Kdrama Signal starring Li Xiao Ran, Du Chun, and Wang Tian Chen. I haven’t watched the original but have heard of numerous praises for the plot and acting caliber of the original cast. Of the Chinese cast, Wang Tian Chen is the most green and you might remember him in General and I, The Way We Were and or Tang Dynasty Tour. Either way, he has a big shoes to follow Lee Jae Hoon’s performance. The original was inspired by a true incident and that involves a serial rapist and murderer. The story follows police lieutenant played by Wang as he tries to investigate the death of his childhood’s friend that was left unsolved for years. He’s aided when he discovers a walkie-talkie and the man talking to him through the phone is the detective from the past (literally) trying to solve the case. Now I want to watch the original. Sounds like a TVB drama too!

Unknown Number begins airing tonight 10/23!

I noticed that Japan also remade the K-drama, Signal. I liked Wang Tian Chen in General and I, so I might watch the Unknown Number. I thought that Signal was an excellent drama three years ago.

    32 episodes? LOL

I haven’t seen Signal either but it’s on my to watch. The synopsis always reminded me of TVB’s 隔世追凶.though, which was pretty good, from what little I could remember of it. Omg it’s so short, maybe I should rewatch it.

I’ve watched the original kdrama, and based on my opinion, it is one of the best kdramas I have ever watched. The series has one of the most balanced story telling out of all the detective kdramas out there, with the right amount of drama, thriller, action and romance. You would go to one moment feeling everything was finally resolved then BOOM! Another twist hits you out of nowhere. You should definitely watch it before watching any of the remakes.

Signal is one of my favourite KDramas. Certainly deserved the high ratings. One warning:- make sure you watch this when you have time to spare because once you start it, you can’t stop. It’s very addictive! Each episode ends with a cliffhanger or plot twist that makes you want to watch the next. Highly recommended!
