Tang Yan, Shawn Dou, and Charmaine Sheh cast in The Legend of Xiao Chuo

Interesting. Shawn Dou Xiao, my Sunshine, hasn’t led enough dramas yet but he’s reuniting with Tang Yan; they starred in modern drama See You Again not long ago. The Legend of Xiao Chuo is based on a novel written by Jiang Sheng Nan, on real historical figures of the Liao Dynasty. Tang Yan will play Xiao Chuo (Chinese Name), who later became a capable Khitan empress after marrying Emperor Jingzong of Liao, and subsequently a regent for her son Emperor Shengzong. She was known for her knowledge of the government and its administration, and a strategic military leader, commanding her own army of 10,000 cavalry. Wow. A very impressive woman! As for Shawn Dou, he will not be playing the emperor….he’s playing Xiao Chuo’s childhood sweetheart, Han De Rang, later a trusted Chinese minister under her rule. This is where I think the novel embellishes on a few things, such as a love affair between our leads, a questionable royal birth, and the eventual burial of the two in the imperial tomb.

Nothing against Tang Yan, but I would prefer my military leader with a little bit more meat on, so she isn’t picked up easily by the wind. It’s also hard for me to picture Sunshine as a minister. Lolol.

I LOVE the premise of Xiao Chuo as a character in general…but…omg I’m not feeling TangYan.

Honestly thinking back, my feelings for TangYan (and LSS tbh) have changed so much over the years. I remember I ADORED TangYan in Chinese Paladin 3 SO MUCH. She was like, in my memories, such a goddess. She was beautiful, captivating, her character so complex, but also she felt so natural and nuanced that she was able to hold onto that complexity in her character (maybe my memories are embellished cuz I haven’t rewatched that in forever, but she lefts SUCH an impression). And then for like, quite a few years on and off, I persistently tried to watch all her shows, even as she started to star in SO many bad modern romance melo’s and embodying the “sha bai tian” persona. And now, I’m frankly just tired of her and seeing her lead shows. Idk my recent impression of her has just been that she always seems about the same in all her roles. (honestly, kinda the same for LSS).

Anyways, I might check it out when it comes out, but we’ll see. Based on recent “trends” for me personally, lol, I’ve lost interest and motivation for starting a LOT of dramas that I was super into and anticipating like, a year ago.

I didn’t think we’d be seeing Tang Yan anytime soon considering the pregnancy rumors but I guess that turned out to be false? In any way, this looks interesting but let’s see what the trailer brings when it’s out.

Not really feeling Tang Yan either… Her acting is not great to the point where she can emit the aura an Empress or regent should have. Looking at Wei Yang, at the later part, her make up and costume were the ones that made her look more 霸气, not her acting. Looking at all her dramas, like Julianne said, she has been the same in all her roles throughout. The only good one was from Chinese Paladin. I think this is a problem from a lot of the famous actress of that generation though.
I would have prefer Charmaine as the Empress instead.

I’m happy for Shawn as he gets more leading roles but now i’m curious when we’ll actually get to see all the dramas he filmed and will(only now they decided to let us see From Survival ) see this one…Don’t know why but when i really think this days that TangYan and Peng Xiao Ran resemble look wise(maybe it’s just me)…The plot sounds good as i adore badass heroines and China does great with that for most part but curious if it end again with a tragedy…

Yay to Tang Yan back in historical dramas. I like Princess Weiyoung.
And more Dou Xiao is always welcome.
But yeah I really wonder when we will get to see the rest of Dou Xiao’s dramas :/

Tang Yan looked like she gained some weight on her face and look bloated. If its not action scenes that requires her to be on wires then I guess its okay for her to be pregnant and film at the same time like Angelababy LOL. I wish they could’ve cast Peng Xiao Ran for the role instead of TY. Not hate here for Ty.

Rumors of Peng xiao ran and Lin Geng Xing in historical drama, but not sure how true the rumors is
