Booting Ceremony Yesterday:
Korean Series Synopsis from Wiki: Set during an era when society does not allow females to be educated nor employed, Kim Yoon-hee (Park Min-young) disguises herself as her brother, Kim Yoon-shik, in order to make ends meet for her family. She goes through a series of odd jobs, mainly at a local bookstore, before she gets offered a chance to increase her earnings by becoming a substitute test-taker (an illegal act) for the upcoming entrance examination in the prestigious Sungkyunkwan, the Joseon Dynasty’s highest educational institute. She gets caught by the upright Lee Sun-joon (Park Yoo-chun), who later acknowledges Yoon-hee’s talents, and even encourages her to enroll in the university. There, she must bear with the endless mischief of upperclassman Gu Yong-ha (Song Joong-ki), put up with the constant mood swings of roommate Moon Jae-shin (Yoo Ah-in), avoid getting in trouble with the strict student body president Ha In-soo (Jun Tae-soo), keep her secret from being discovered, all the while trying to hold her growing feelings for Lee Sun-joon at bay.
Together, Kim, Lee, Gu, and Moon form the “Jalgeum Quartet.”

Oh god. Somehow I feel great distaste for the endeavor as a whole. Sungkyunkwan scandal was such a classic, mostly because of the chemistry between the characters and the chemistry between everyone. I…don’t trust this cast at all. I’m also not a huge fan of Song WeiLong at all. I used to like Ju JingYi but I’m honestly getting a little tired of her characters (and style of acting/face…she’s kind of formulaic in her acting…).
Have no interest in checking out this drama.

I agree Juli, the original’s magic was the chemistry of the quartet, which was so unique and very precious. They are distinct individuals and brilliantly acted out, especially Yoo Ah In and Song Joong Ki.
Can’t say much about this group since I haven’t watched any of their projects. Lol.

Wow I’m so excited for this just for the visuals alone.

I actually couldn’t finish Sungkyunkwan Scandal – can’t tell if it’s the actress I don’t like (she tends to do the slow-mo deer-in-headlights look a little TOO much for me to take her seriously) or it’s the character (a little too self-righteous, perhaps?).
I don’t particularly like Ju Jing Yi either (I think that stems from her face, too), but her acting is okay. I have nothing to say about her one way or another, just rather bland.

It would be nice if they were to do a Chinese remake of The Moon Embracing the Sun too

Haha I agree. China usually great in making such ancient romance drama. But again, acting and writing are important.

IDK I dislike Sungkyunkwan Scandal being remake in C-Drama. On top of that, the casts is such…mediocre. I like Ju Jing Yi and Song Wei Long they are cute, but, their acting is mediocre. I know many viewers only watch dramas because of the casts, not because the drama production itself. That is way many mediocre drama still got many viewers and high rating despite the bad acting and bad plot. Great writing of the plot can save the drama. But the actors have a big part to liven up the script. The best from Sungkyunkwan Scandal is unbeatable chemistry among the four leads. Can C-drama make the same chemistry? OMG I can’t imagine SungKyunkwan Scandal quality drama going downhill after being remade.

I’m a huge fan of SS and I was excited to hear about the Chinese remake, that is until the cast was unveiled.
Neither actor feels strong enough to portray any of the lead characters. They all seem to like spunk and look far too bland. Ju JingYi, I am not a fan of her work. She seems to follow Tiffany Tang’s acting style which I cannot endure watching for long periods of time – insipid, lackluster, identical regardless of what role she plays. It always feels it’s the same. Her face, her posture, her demeanour is always the same.
Saying that it’s a beautiful cast, really beautiful so that’s a positive!
