First Trailer for Yang Yang’s The King’s Avatar drama adaptation

First peek at Yang Yang’s upcoming novel-to-drama adaptation of the popular work The King’s Avatar (全职高手) written by Butterfly Blue is out! Looks very similar in style to Just One Smile is Very Alluring, with the boys strutting together in unified arrogance. Lol. From the smiles, the whole experience is pretty unique in the modern filming realm.

Color me….not too impressed. I admittedly have unfairly high standards definitely bc I adore the source novel – definitely one of my fav novels. Will definitely still watch it bc I love the characters, but YY’s not really fitting my mental image of Ye Xiu, and I DON’T mean physically (he just doesn’t seem very in character to me). Also they got a lot of decently popular actors, but aside from the cast, the setting and everything looks very bright, plasticky, and cheap. I’d almost they rather pick places that look more realistically dirty and cheap, lol.
Not saying this looks terrible, but meh, not really impressed.

Im seeing lots of keyboard tappings…which idk is supposed to be amazing? Lol. I think i am supposed ti be impressed but really….even if keyboard tapping is high speed and all..it cant be that engaging the entire series…. hope the virtual world is more exciting pot production.

Is it just me or everything is so damn bright in the trailer. It’s so bright to the point that everything looks tacky and this is not King’s Avatar for me.
As much as I LOVE YY, but, he needs more acting practice. I see no difference in his characters and him bejng YeXiu is just YY acting handsome.

Im just gonna go back to watch the anime for now

I was originally excited to see another gamer C-novel being made into a drama. I’ve heard that King’s Avatar was supposed to be good. I already expected the drama to not be a great adaption of the original story, so held back on reading the novel or watching the anime. *sigh* After this first trailer…as much as I was looking forward to seeing this, I felt underwhelmed and disappointed. Their attempt to make it look epic and cool (with bright lights, frantic typing on keyboard, the classic slo-mo scene of the team walking, etc.) just made it a little corny. I sure hope the show is better than the trailer. -__-

Read the novel! Some ppl can find the novel a bit draggy bc admittedly it’s 98% in game and very much focuses on the game details (techniques, tactics), but tbh I’m a COMPLETE rookie at gaming, and the novel is so good it legit makes me wanna game, like hardcore. It’s prob one of my favs, and also one of my 2 all time fav Chinese novels period and one of the 2 novels I’ve ever kept up with (like, I’m talking past 600-800 ch type of frenetic adoration).

The anime’s also a super good adaptation. In fact, the anime is the reason I even started the novel and while they take away quite a bit of the plot (cuz the novel’s like, 1700 ch of gaming) it stays very very true to the essence of the novel.

It’s only a teaser trailer. Not the final product. The production crew is still shooting the game scenes. Once they finish filming and do post-production work on this, the visuals will be more comprehensive than what’s shown in this teaser. Release date is summer 2019, so there’s 6+ months of post-production work that needs to be done for this project.

I’m happy to see my supporting actor faves from Fuyao in this series. I watched the anime version of the story, but haven’t read the book yet. Looks like I have time to catch up. I am excited to see how it turns out, bummed to have to wait, but would rather they take the time to make good CGI effects.

Well never had any expectations for this… and after this trailer I’m honestly very far from being impressed…
It does seem a bit too bright and white… To make it seems super technology advanced? Feels like they tried to be futuristic somehow?
YY still doesn’t fit well as YX. I’m really not his biggest fan. He’s somewhat handsome I guess but his acting is so bland.
The fast keyboard tapping is somewhat funny. Looks so very random.
A lot is happening irl in this trailer… Hopefully that’s not how the whole drama will be considering most of the novel actually happens in game. I’m glad the game looks like a game though. And not the actors cosplaying.
