I’m actually not really a fan at all, despite the nice trailer. The drama imo doesn’t really live up to it, which is a common symptom, but nonetheless still disappointing. Temporarily it’s dropped for me, but I might pop back in occasionally for Li Qin and Xin Zhi Lei. It’s interesting because I’m seeing a lot of positive comments here in the cbox, but all the comments on youtube (on the official channel) are extremely negative. Ah well, to each their own.

After the huge disappointment that Martial Universe is for me, I was really hesitating to watch it. I never watched any trailers before and have no real knowledge of the drama, beside knowing that the novel´s author also wrote Martial Universe.
So far I have watched the first 2 episodes subbed and the other 5 episodes raw. I am liking it so far. It is quite entertaining and I am curious how the story will evolve. The editing is definitely a lot better than MU and the characters speak to me more. So far, the CGI´s are not over the top.
I love seeing Baron Chen..even though I wish he had more screen time, his acting is on point. But seriously..what is with his hair colour O_O I can´t help but cringe, when I see this weird purple-gray hair.
Wu Leo is shaping up to be a great actor! His martial arts moves seem natural and I love seeing him practice..

Old Master’s purple grey hair looks strange and very dry. They could have given Baron Chen, a better quality of wig.The character is dead, but he should still look sharp.

The fantasy costume drama genre with young adult actors/characters is outside my demographic, but nonetheless I might invest my time, if the drama has very good production values, topnotch acting performances and good writing and directing. Editing continues to be hopeless in C-dramas.

Watching the trailer of FBS, I was reminded of the first few episodes of Martial Universe with Lin Dong and his immature, cocky attitude. It seems that some dramas want to start from scratch, and mold the lead character graduately into the kicka$$, bada$$ warrior hero, savior of mankind, etc.. When the drama reaches that threshold, I will check in, and stay with it, if it continues to build drama momentum.

I am intrigued with Leo Wu’s acting career, having seen him perform credibly in Nirvana in Fire. If someone subs FBS, and the first ten episodes do not drag, I will look forward to it, as my Fall drama.

I watched the first 4 episodes because I was bored. Ashes of Frost is steadily decreasing in storytelling quality, meanwhile Bloody Romance is awesome but takes forever to be subbed..

I’m not familiar with the source story. The first 2 episodes start out like typical young adult action adventure drama but the drama really picked up its pace in subsequent episodes. The drama managed to clearly establish the motivation for the main character and now I’m invested in his journey and success. I’m on episode 5 now and the story is getting even more exciting and entertaining. I really hope this drama won’t suck.

Production quality is good, certainly better than Martial Universe (that one was just awful). Wu Lei is shaky in the first episode, but he gets better afterwards as he improves the fine balance of fresh youthful spirit and brashness of his character. He has screen presence and looks natural in his fighting scenes. Definitely a rising actor to watch out for. Everyone else was great as well.

I love your comment: ” I really hope this drama won’t suck.” – this is literally my hopes going into a lot of dramas recently. I haven’t even gotten around to Martial Universe and all I hear is negative things. =/ I was really looking forward to that one because you know… eye-candy Yang Yang is in it. Haha.

I watched the fist six episodes, and the drama is paced well. Leo Wu is doing a great job with the acting and the martial arts stunts. The first flashback started in episode 2, and was repeated in episode 3, and probably every episode. I would like to slap the person in the head, who thinks that the viewers need to see the same damned flashback one million times.

Baron Chen interfaced only with Leo Wu for the first six episodes. The scenes are getting boring. When Xiao Yan needs a consultation with old Master, he shuts his eyes, and presses his forehead. That could get old quickly, especially if someone is in the room with him. The soundtrack is odd. It seemed to have an Arabian desert tempo, and then, there is the hard rock song.

Fight Breaks Spheres feels like Hogwarts and Morrim School (K-drama) travelled back in time to ancient China. There are three good looking young elders at the Academy payroll, and I am curious if the villain will be the one whom we least suspect.

I’m really enjoying the drama despite the flaws. Love most of the main cast, in particular Wu Lei, Baron Chen and Xiao Zhan. The female lead is lacking in charisma and acting talent though. I wish Chinese dramas would actually do casting calls where roles are cast based on suitability and talent. She’s not even particularly attractive IMO.

I am impressed with the martial arts/combat scenes. I think that’s in large part due to the director’s martial arts background (who also did a cameo as the male lead’s father).

Random thought: Wu Lei’s clothing reminds me of Link from Zelda for some reason. Maybe it’s the green colour? LOL.
