Quick Summary (novel): She has always thought the greatest happiness in life is being by his side. Her name is Jiang Sheng (Sun Yi) and her older half-brother is Liang Sheng (Ma Tian Yu). Because of their family situation and hard life, little sister leans completely on her brother to live, only to develop feelings beyond her control. He also loves her and gives her the best of things but their love is against ethics and morals. Under the author’s penmanship, the love story is bright and calm, but contains the irony and hopelessness of life, giving Jiang Sheng the impression that her story is a funny one. Because she believes they are siblings, she hides and buries her feelings for Liang Sheng. Later on she meets our second/other male lead, Cheng Tian You (Wallace Chung) who has everything – looks, power, money. She eventually returns his devoted feelings, gets married and gets pregnant. Dun Dun Dun. Later, she discovers that her brother is sick. HE HAS CANCER (!!). She returns to his side because she wants to help him and then more secrets come out…. Kappy@AVV.

Excited to start this to cleanse the palate after so many ancient historical dramas.
However, am I the only one a bit pissed that HunanTv shortened the Rise of Phoenixes from 70 to 56 in order to air this? I love all the actors in both dramas but I feel sad every time I see that the release date was bumped up 😭😢

same here, I was pretty bummed even though I having been waiting for ma tian yu’s new drama for ages. rise of phoenixes is like a dark horse drama to me. I never knew I would fall so deeply for this drama. the cast and cinematography will have to be its main winning points for me. But I guess it’s fine because at least we got the full uncut DVD version and netflix subs as well. Another thing i’m bummed about is that I heard they have to re-film some parts of this drama to make tianyu the second lead! I personally think it’ll ruin the main juice of the novel and what the novel is trying to portray if they do this =.=
I was meant to save my tears for this drama but rise of phoenixes took all my tears. i’ll need rest period before starting on this one =.=

Hahaha same! I need to take a break as well for all the tears and heart ache especially since rise of Phoenix is going at a neck breaking speed at the moment.
Might take a week off then start this one. I’m going to be hopeful and say the change might be for better flow of the script (because the changes made to phoenix from novel to script made it more cohesive) but fingers crossed!
I’m hoping for the best whenever it comes to novel-to-screen adaptations

omg, rise of phoenixes. Now that I’m further into the drama, I think i need to take a few months break…or just stay away from tear jerkers for the rest of the year….my heart right now….. TT^TT

this sounds amazing but that little bit at the end of this article “ending 2 deaths and misery” ugh I don’t know if I can handle that much melo with a horrible ending =/

I like all 3 leads. I am in this for another angst filled melo drama after HSALF. I will see how this will turn out after the production refilmed about 70% of scenes for WC coz apparently MTY character as a triad gang member didn’t get SARFT pass. I hope MTY scenes don’t get drastically reduced or else we will have another fiasco online again.

I have to add, I was really disappointed at this chance. I sincerely want to watch MTY getting his lead actress. But SARFT is so unpredictable. Something can tick them off. And it can be so random.

I’m a fan of both Ma Tianyu and Sun Yi but this is going to be hard to swallow, especially when they aren’t going to end up together and Sun Yi’s character is gonna be r… And it looks like Ma Tianyu will have very little scenes.
Hopefully this won’t be a flop like Rise of Phoenixes. 70 episodes for a romance drama is ridiculously long.
On a side note I hope Netflix releases the full version for ROP.

It bottomed out Hunan TV’s ratings so yeah it’s a flop in terms of that. It’s mocked pretty widely online, but douban ratings is pretty good, so it’s just…niche?

Out of curiosity, what are the people saying about Rise of Phoenix (the general negative comments, I mean). I’m just curious to know what the masses think its flaws are. I’m totally just a bystander cuz I haven’t watched it, and unless I’m feeling particularly unmotivated at any point this school year (which, I hope not), I probably won’t be watching it.

@Julianne: slow pacing initially, since it takes a while to set up. The editing make it that it doesn’t really hook a lot of people? In addition to lot of people might not necessarily have brain space or mood for it after tired day of work for something heavy like this.
Hunan TV’s editing is left to be desired, especially for its weekend slot (which is where the terrible 0.16 rating comes from, I saw someone updated its earlier ratings on wiki!). It has to work around CCTV news so there’s shifting broadcasting times, I’ve seen it range from 7.30 to 8.30, then on weekend it works around its variety show schedule which gives some really short episodes. Hunan TV is apparently well known for this, but it’s a pretty bad fit for tRoP where details can be essential but alas. The second half editing is even worse as it rush to finish its broadcast.
Personally I do think the pacing & editing could be better, even disregarding the TV bullshit. The script could be tighter, I think certain behaviour in initial two episodes went too far that can make people dislike them? There’s lots of complaints about female lead being inconsistent and doing dumb things (partially true, partially them missing info, partially just being really harsh towards female characters). The romance bits/OTP interaction can seem very jarring in comparison to the serious politics, it gets better later.
There’s lots to like but there’s also decent amount of reason for people to drop or dislike it. I do think a lot of the mocking are from people that’s just following the lead, and there’s discrepancy between expectations and result so.

I saw that they are releasing the full eps with sub! The first 15 eps are out now!! 😁

I think Sun Yi fits melos because she has this sad look, but I wish she would be in a drama where she’s happy from start to end. Still, I guess it’s tough luck because her next project is another melodrama alongside Bai Jingting, and it’s adapted from a novel by the author of “Sweet Sixteen” (!!!), so we have to sit in for a new tide of angst…

Is Alan Yu Meng Long the one who played the prince in Flame’s Daughter? He’s in a wheelchair there and a wheelchair here as well… LOL that’s how I recognised him…
I wanted to see MTY in the lead role. Hopefully in his future roles then.
Just started dabbling in chinese dramas recently. While I appreciate that they release the episodes really fast, I don’t think I can go through so many episodes with fillers and stagnant plots. It is really testing your patience and it would take a really captivating OTP to keep me going.

Wah, Wallace Chung… It’s been a while since i watched anything with him. He was my total bias when i saw him in best time.
But ma tian yu… Aaahh, very handsome. But he’s not that tall right? Currently read a novel about a music producer and his wife who is a singer and i wish MTY will play qiao yichen character since he’s handsome too lmao.
Sunyi.. Hmm… Still painful remembering siege in fog. Sigh.

With Bai Jingting? He also has this perpetual sad face (although I reckon his character in A Love So Beautiful is supposedly cheerful or something?).

That sounds just wrong to fall in love with your bro. I suppose MTY isn’t her real bro in the end?

If you followed the news of this series, it will not follow the book. There wont be two deaths, but it will be a happy ending
23 thoughts on “All Out of Love: Sun Yi torn between Wallace Chung and Ma Tian Yu”
So only one death perhaps? If that’s the case, I think I know how this is going to play out haha
