Song Zu Er pulls out of The King’s Avatar, New trailers for Only Side by Side With You and New Horizon

=======> ♦ Song Zu Er was supposed to be romancing Yang Yang in his upcoming novel-to-drama adaptation of the popular work The King’s Avatar (全职高手) written by Butterfly Blue. The story follows a top game player’s ups and downs in his professional career, only to return to the gaming world once again. Female lead Su Mu Cheng is also known as the best Launcher player in Massively multiplayer online role-playing game called Glory. Her path to the top is guided by Ye Xiu (Yang Yang) and she stays by his side, taking care of him.

Because of scheduling conflict, Song Zu Er will pull out of The King’s Avatar, focusing all her attention on her ancient drama Novoland: Eagle Flag with Liu Hao Ran. I’m not unhappy since there’s very little romance in the original story. The drama will change that of course ~ The search for a new female lead begins!

Does anyone know the details of the plot for Side by Side with You?

Also not too upset with King’s Avatar’s change. Honestly though, overall I’m not very happy with TKA being adapted in the first place though. I think the animation’s been doing a decently good job (actually, understatement cuz I love the animation, which is what made me read the book) because despite the major summarizations, the characterizations are really on point, but overall it’s successful because it does a good job of realizing the whole in-game, real-life visuals. The gaming-description-style is very very different from something like O2O so I’m not sure if a real-life adaptation can do a good job. O2O mostly relies on making the gaming element like a cosplay universe, which fits that novel because Gu Man doesn’t go into gaming details. But TKA relies 98% on gaming details and techniques and stuff, so I really don’t have faith in a real-life adaptation.

Honestly I’m worried mostly because I’m NOT a gamer and TKA is the novel that made me feel super excited about (fake) gaming and feeling like I get it; like the skill and difficulty and excitement of gaming in an MMORPG. If the real-life adaptation loses that, I don’t see a point in adapting the book at all.

ALSO I really don’t think Yang Yang fits the image of Ye Xiu, and I don’t think he’s a good enough actor to convince the audience he’s in character. (Please don’t kill me; I do like YY sometimes, but objectively he’s not the most talented actor…)

Posted the synopsis in its individual thread, in general: William plays a bar owner (was in army, very gangsta). When young, he wanders the streets and is led and guided by a big sis in the mafia. He was kicked out of the army when the second male lead (good friend) + female lead “supposedly” conspired against him, causing a downward slope on his life and now that he’s in a position with power, he’s back for some vengeance. Alas, he’s melted by our female lead and quits his mission….but the decision may not be his to decide now ~

      Happy Friday!

Lol, Yang Yang is definitely not famous for his great acting skills…

wow, me too! i started the novel after watching the animation, and fell in love with the novel! i only found out about the live-action after i finished the novel, and boy i was bummed about Ye Xiu being played by YY.. sigh.. but i will still give the drama a chance once it’s out due to my love for Ye Xiu.. the drama filming keeps getting delayed though, not sure why..

I’m bummed about Song Zuer. I think she fit the role even better since the character had little romance. She seems like she would be good as a friend.

Is it because she is trying to get in and expecting to get into Beijing Film Academy that she doesn’t want to do too much?

I think it’s because Novoland: Eagle Flag has been filming in Xinjiang for the last month or so and haven’t needed Zu Er as her character doesn’t appear in those scenes, but they’re gearing up to move locations soon and she’ll be needed. The King’s Avatar has been silent for months, but also looks like they’re about to start filming. I think originally she thought that The King’s Avatar would start filming first and since her scenes would be limited anyways she could balance the two, but now the two productions’ schedules directly overlap.

There’s also a rumor going around that the King’s Avatar team have done a complete re-haul and have changed directors (which is why they haven’t started filming yet despite announcing the cast months ago), and may be looking to make Tang Rou the more prominent female lead over Su Mucheng. They want a bigger name and Maggie Jiang is the rumored target – ironically, she’s also in Novoland, though in a smaller role. Zhang Xue Ying is the name floating around for Su Mucheng now. Guess we’ll officially find out when the new cast is announced!

The production team for both The King’s Avatar and Novoland: Eagle Flag are the same (Linmon) so obviously no hard feelings on either side – just an interesting development.

What?! NO! I like Tang You overall as character, but if they try to make TR and Ye Xiu a romantic couple I will boycott this drama. There’s no romance period in The King’s Avatar. The author maybe barely hints at future SuMuCheng-YeXiu, so the background and possibility is there and the push for a relationship makes sense (and I like them together) but if they try to force Tang Rou and Ye Xiu as a couple, then it’s going to be completely ridiculous. I can’t believe the author sold the rights to this team if they might do that because I read in some (multiple) Tieba’s and forums that the author specifically chose NOT to make it about romance at all. Like, it’s not like it’s in the background; it’s just plain not written in except maybe setup for a future romance past the end of the novel.

This just really bothers me now, lol. T.T

Song Zuer is actually applying for Central Academy of Drama instead of Beijing Film Academy. Most of of young actors this year are applying for CAD like TFBOY’S Yi Yang Qian Xi, Li Lan Di (My HuckleBerry Friends) and Song Zu Er. I only know Wu Lei who applies for BFA.

Anyway, both are prestigious and popular school that houses to a lot of popular celebrities but funnily enough, looking at the notable alumni from each school, it seems like those who are from CDA are more credible and can be taken more seriously acting wise compared to those who are from BFA, although NOT ALL.

I mean; CDA got Zhang Ziyi, Tangwei, Gongli, Wangkai, Wang Ziwen, Tong Liya, Zhang Han, Liu Haoran etc who are all known for their good acting.

Meanwhile, BFA got Yang Mi, Zheng Shuang, Liu Yifei, Huang Xiaoming, Shawn Duo who have been criticized for their poor acting performance more than once, although some may already improved, I dont known.

I feel like CDA produces real actors while BFA produces stars, again not necessarily apply to all the alumni.

Another interesting note is, TFBOY’s Karry Wang enrolled in BFA while Yi Yang Qian Xi is aiming for CDA. And I thought Wu Lei will follow his close friend, Liu Haoran to CDA but he choose to apply for BFA instead. Of course they can have their own choice but it’s just interesting to see that lol.

@Sarah: That’s interesting analysis. I guess I should look out for the CDA alumni in dramas.
I thought Zhang Han was considered a poor actor though.

Ive srsly been waiting for monthhs for TKA. Its actually been taking so long to even start filming. I hope the 2018 release is still what they are aiming for…

I actually liked Song Zu’er and she looks good with Yang Yang lol.
Jiang Shuying? She’s too old for this type of drama. And her recent drama roles turns me off.

New Horizon looks good! It seems to differ from the usual dramas. Can we expect it to match up to Triumph in the Skies?

I love the anime a lot and is waiting for the second season to air. But I thought I saw somewhere about financial problems or something. No idea.

Anyways, I am just keeping an open mind with this drama and try not to be pissed if it turns out to be another rubbish drama with poor and distasteful CGI. And I agree that YY isn’t the best at acting lol. I really like him but he has time and time again disappoint me with his acting skills. He can do crying and emotional scenes very well but other than that, when it comes to those scenes that requires more depth, he just can’t act well.
