Literally just binged the first 2 eps in the last hr or so. I love it. As far as recent modern dramas go (and I’ve tried the Maggie Jiang ones, the Sierra Li one (both of which have 2 in the last few months) and other randos), this is literally the only one I feel interested and motivated to continue watching. The plot’s kinda interesting (sucker for badass revenge plots) and extra extra huge sucker smexy badass eyecandy (heh hem William) ~ on a surface level very much addicted to the suave-charming-pull-out-those-fighting-moves hot guys who have the dark past and are just this side of over-powered and just this side of legal….even though realistically they’d prob be the ones I’d avoid at all costs in RL..gotta fulfill those fantasies somehow right LOLOL. Honestly not taken by BBH at all yet, mostly cuz she’s been playing a lot of those competent-logical-good-at-job-bad-EQ roles (lol, Surgeons anyone???) and I feel like she seems the same in both roles to me… I like how her character handled the ****SPOILER**** break off with her ex-fiance tho, very cool and very awesome. She didn’t get mad (on the outside, she didn’t let it show at least) at all and very cooly broke it off and walked away.
Cool beans. I like Li Xian, but somehow I don’t think I like his character. He’s set up to be the betrayer (PROB with a huge dose of misunderstanding and prob make-up bromance later on, but still) and I think I always prefer the darker badass climbed-through-the-slums-underdog-who’s-now-big-boss (William’s character) over them rich CEO-children “badasses” who’s still competent but just somehow feels…less root-worthy. I’m prob biased cuz William’s smexy is overwhelming Li Xian’s right now.
Also happy they didn’t jump right into the romance. Like, William getting close to the girl is obviously a manipulative ploy right now, but I’m glad the production crew’s not trying to write it off as instant love. I’m also (shallowly) loving the underground-mafia-ish vibe and hints we see with William’s “business” dealings. lolols this is gonna be like, brain and eye candy. Such a bad idea since I’m on the cusp of several midterms.

I saw it in some sites and coming here to know about the first impression of av readers. Gotta add this one of my ‘current watching dramas’ (siege in fog and old boy are my fave now).

Same! I’m also watching siege in fog and old boy currently and they are my faves as of now. I hope this has good reviews, so I can have one more new drama to sample in my list.

OMG, I need moar coffee. I just wrote stuff in the chat box and did not pay attention to this article for first impressions.
Sooo, here it goes:
Story: too early to say but I like the slow, lyrical pace for now. Most of the other stuff I’m watching now is super dramatic and this is a welcome change. ****
Characters: mostly not what I expected. They are subdued versions of the characters I imagined but that makes them more realistic, I guess. Li Xian is <3 😉 Would like to see more of big, evil mafia sis. **
Set/clothes: 1. Get BBH out of the grandma clothes !!! Now! 2. William should be shirtless at least once per episode. 3. Since everybody in this show is rich (some more than others) I will not complain about the unusually big and shiny homes and offices. *** (deducted a star for BBH’s styling, she is so pretty and they make her look 10 years older)
Music: big, fat nope *

Not watching the drama but he’s looking much better here. I thought he looked so unattractive in his drama with Liu Shi Shi recently. The styling was so unflattering to him.

I love William. Heck, the only time I come here and write anything is because of him. But even I can’t get past the blatant product placement in ep. 2. He might as well apply face cream while performing his mid-air one-two punch split-kicks against the bad guys. Product placements is distracting and completely cheapens the production. I thought that I’ll give modern dramas a try (because of William!)…but nope, I’m going back to ancient dramas.

You need to go for no-idols, serious, thriller and gritty web dramas like Burning Ice and Day and Night *wink*

I tried 2 eps… it wasn’t great. :((( Script could be a lot sharper and the acting could be better.

I am pleasantly surprised at how good this drama is.
Same as Julianna above, I’ve literally tried all the modern dramas that came out this year but this is the only one I felt compelled to continue.
William is all kind of smexy and I’m happy to know his character isn’t another typical “badass CEO”, but someone with more depth. I’m excited to know how he will take revenge, and also his relationship with Qin Hailu’s character (though I don’t ship them).
I hate Li Xian’s character but can’t deny he’s hot xD He and William make a visual pair for sure. But an asshole is an asshole. I hope William doesn’t forgive him that easily.
I’ve not watched Bai Baihe in much things so I can’t tell whether she is being typecast; but imo for now, Nan Qiao is a refreshing change from all the screaming and unreasonable female leads I’ve watched.
Also, I’m also happy this airs daily xD Both Siege in Fog and Chronicles of Town Called Jian are/were aired weekly so its a torture to wait for them, lol.
