First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

So did everyone get a chance to watch the premiere episodes of Lie Huo Ru Ge? Seems like the styling is the talk of town around here. Lol. Reminds me of the hair lift procedure William and Shi Shi got in Love Lost in Times. xD But back to our main stars, Dilraba reunites with Zhang Bin Bin one more time….. Are these two destined to be ill-fated forever in drama universe or what?! Then there’s our sole older male lead Vic Zhou, who is a decade older than all of the cast. Strange vibe or a slow burn to success? We shall see because I do like the whole cast ensemble.

Haven’t watch. Waiting for more episodes before starting.

From the pictures there are a lot of familiar faces. Seems like a huge chunk of the supporting cast from 10000 Miles are here.

Dilraba is gorgeous, as expected. Zhang Bin Bin is hot. He has a nice gravitas to him despite his young age and he does brooding so well. Too bad these too appear to be destined to never have an onscreen HE.

Have never seen Vic Zhou in anything.

Not good. Really not good. ZBB is hot and charismatic on screen, but his character’s a douche. Vic suck right now and is really. really. really awkward. He and Dilraba have 0 chemistry right now, imo.

Dilraba’s….I love her, but her acting is really awkward in this one. It’s as bad as, worse than, in King’s Woman. With King’s Woman, she was more serious and stuff, and she had killer chemistry at least w/ZBB. Here she has no chemistry with Vic but her character’s also straddling a thin line between mature enough to kind of understand things but still cutesy-naive. Honestly the character’s not well written, but I like the makings of her personality (Ru Ge) enough…but Dilraba’s REALLY not doing her justice at all so it turns out I don’t like Ru Ge either. She has moments of good stuff (like when she heads home and is dealing with her ill-fated love and rival and stuff), but honestly those moments are brought out when she’s acting w/ZBB or dealing with their relationship. So really ZBB brings out the good stuff in her. I’m sorry I’m being so harsh, but I’m pretty disappointed. Honestly, I didn’t have THAT high of hopes, but admittedly the trailer looked alright and things look so clean and neat and pretty. But in motion, it’s just really disappointing.

On the supporting peeps, I LOVE ZBB’s onscreen presence so I feel conflicted about his character. He’s a douche, and not well written so I can’t actually tell if he’s being a douche or just one of those angsty-self-sacrificing-for-your-good types. BUT ZBB carries it well enough that I can tell the character’s feeling SOMETHING complicated about Ru Ge. Yu Shi Xiong is decent…I don’t love him but he’s not irritating me…I kinda like him.
LOVING Dai Si and her fiery personality. Honestly I’m not saying Dai Si’s acting is particularly good (I can’t really tell honestly) and this character is similar to a lot of her other ones and doesn’t require too much finesse yet, but at least she’s likable right now and overall feels in character. Is it sad that I actually like her and the fun Pili Sect dude the most right now?

Mildly curious about the plot and stuff, so will continues FF’ing through (already skimmed through the first 5, 6?, eps) but not particularly committed. Honestly just want to know what’s going on with Zhan Feng, ZBB’s character.

      Spoiler alert!

I read the synopsis at baidu. Babies ZhanFeng and RuGe were switched by someone seeking revenge on RuGe’s “father”. This person told ZhanFeng that RuGe’s father killed his father, but RuGe’s father is actually ZhanFeng’s father. Thus, ZhanFeng turned into what we are seeing.

Not sure whether the plot is complex or messy. This plus “the fun Pili Sect dude” makes me stick with the drama for now.

I haven’t read the books but I’ve heard that the book is a bit of a mess and isn’t the authors best work. So there is no surprise the story is quite generic with the typical leads. However the acting toally agree, ZBB is sizzling in the drama but the others…

idk if I’m being too harsh with my critique, but there’s just something weird about Dilraba’s acting that’s extra noticeable in this particular drama. Like I can attempt to analyze it (I’m really bad at tho) but it doesn’t actually seem different from her last few roles. It’s just…standing out to me in a bad way this time. Also maybe cuz I think Vic’s a problem (I don’t really like him in what I saw of his drama with HBQ either tbh, altho I didn’t see much of it cuz…not good).

    • 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

I’m actually really enjoying “Beauty in the Closet” with HBQ and Vic. ***SPOILER***Cried buckets in episode 29 when he ran HBQ over with his horse! He was stiff at first, but improving as the story progresses. But I have to say Han Dong is amazing in portraying his conflicted character. He really should be leading in more dramas.

I’ll just be honest, Dilireba does not have the magic look. Her face is a bit manly, she is not ugly but she is just not too pretty. Hua Qiangu is much much more extra cutesy and super innocent if compared to what Dilireba is playing, but Zhao Liying’s cute looks still make things more watchable. I feel bad for anyone watching these new dramas without fast forwarding, it is totally impossible. Nothing is happening at all except that the main girls would always travel around to run some pointless errands. If they are not attractive enough then the drama would just fail because nobody is interested enough in watching them running around and talking with big bright smiles.

Vic’s drama with HBQ, storyline might not have been so disastrous if the directing isn’t so dumb, same things happen over and over and over again, Vic likes HBQ and feels bad he also likes the sister over and over again, HBQ cries and nags for the same things over and over again, HBQ’s sister and her boyfriend runs around doing the same stuff over and over again when I thought they settle on a new plan already to make their affair works but whenever they meet up together then they just reroute to the same conversations. The other fox lady in blue also have the same repetitive things going on forever.

I’m tired of ZBB in brooding emo roles. Either he’s getting typecasted or that’s all he can do. His characters in 3l3l, King’s Woman and here all look the same as in his acting is the same. He needs a challenging different role so I can get back on his train.

It doesn’t help that I’m tired of seeing him with Dilraba either. She too seems to be stuck in the same place.

Vic’s character is cool and I want to like him but can’t. Did Vic get Botox or something?

About the only thing I like so far is the fight choreography.

    • 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

ZBB has already shown that brooding emo roles are not all he can do. IMO he has shown he can pull off other characters in Love O2O and Pretty Li Hui Zhen. I don’t think he is being typecasted, he probably just has an affinity for these types of roles.

And like Bin Bin, Dilraba just needs to start picking her projects better.

I haven’t seen Vic in anything since Mars, and I haven’t watched any eps of this yet but I will probably stick with it from beginning to end no matter how messy it gets because I do like the cast.

    • 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

ZBB shown he is very versatile and talented. He managed to shine in TKW despite a mediocre script and even manages to give depth to roles like this and his character in 3 Lives when they would have been forgettable in another actor’s hands.

The thing is if Jiaxing want them in a project they don’t have much say because they are signed to the studio so they pretty much have to do it. Vin is the most talented of their young male actors but they keep wasting him in these thankless second lead roles. At least he is getting more interesting and leading roles outside the studio now.

I think Dilireba ascent to leading lady status happened too fast and too soon. She had promise but hasn’t developed at all as an actress and is already a huge celebrity and so busy jumping from project to project, endorsements, photoshoots and stuff she has got complacent with her acting and plays every character the same way with no depth.

  5. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

So far, nothing that hooked me in. Embarrassingly, I actually dozed off halfway through Ep. 3! My hubby caught me snoring on my chair with the computer screen on! Could be because I was exhausted and needed my afternoon nap. Pardon the old lady. In my defense, if the story’s interesting, I would have been able to keep my eyes open until the end of the episode. I also agree re. ZBB and Dilraba’s acting. It definitely came across as they themselves are sick and tired of acting similar roles. Vic’s cheeky smiles reminded me so much of his role in Black & White. He may look ‘young’ but there are signs of aging on his face when the camera closed up on him. Doesn’t bother me as everyone ages but he has always walked the idol path instead of the capability path; hence aging may be bad for his idol image.

    • 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

Yes! Vic may have been able to coast when he was young and beautiful but he’s coming off as smarmy/campy here. I mean, I want to like him, and I like the idea of his character, but his acting is hard to ignore.

I’m only on ep 2, so I haven’t seen ZBB. I just want to say… why is Zilan and Yanzhi not a couple??? Why is she going to be with Zhen Shui Wu Xiang lol I always fall for the Yu type so there goes my shattered heart already. We all know it’s not ending well for him.

  6. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

I am actually quite enjoying this drama. The major plus for me here is the plot and the flow so far. I was able to follow the story progress and slowly get to be introduce to all the characters and their personality instead of being throw into a bunch of circumstances and people. Basically I really like the storyline so far and I miss this genre, xian/xia.

Vic is really a miscast here. At least for the few scenes I have seen so far, he doesn’t have the ethereal and grace like a xian (I believe he is a hundred year old xian here). When they are all anticipating for his appearance at the brothel, I can’t help but laugh out loud. Don’t get me wrong, I think Vic is fine as an actor and he is still handsome but I think he is more fitting for modern drama. I can even get use to him in Closet drama but in this drama he is suppose to be a beauty. The costume is not helping and his acting is not fitting at all. I can’t help but compare him with Mark Zhao. I think Mark is also someone who fit modern more than ancient drama but Mark’s amazing acting make his character believable (Hence, the plastic surgery acting saying lol) So far, Vic is the only down side for me because I think based on my understanding of his character, his character should be very likable and heart-breaking but not feeling it. Hopefully, it will improve later on.

Dilireba is fine so far, nothing extraordinary but acceptable. Vinny is very good to look at and I like some of his deeper emotional scene when no one is looking but I have a feeling I am not going to like or root for his character since he made a choice to ditch Dilireba now. No matter what reason he had, he made his own path.

Finally, the most surprising thing for me personally so far is….I really really like Yu. Funny, when I heard about this drama, I was not interested in his character at all and found him boring but in action it is another story. At the brothel, the moment he looked at RuGe, there is such a strong feeling of doting and gentleness there. When RuGe does something, he has this “I know what you are up to” soft smile that seems to only exist for her. Plus, the fact that he is willing to do anything for her just melts my heart. Oh boy, I think I am on this ship but I am afraid it will not sail 🙁 There seems to be some mystery with him and I want to know more… His personality really match his name, Jade. Cool and calm exterior but gentle and warm within.

Finally I found someone that like Yu like me. I like Wayne LIu in this drama. His character could be a cold stall face if it didn’t handle well. I must say, he did it very well. When he was with others, one look kill and all could die and nothing that I care but when he is with RG, he could see so much love in his eyes. Well done.

    • 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

yeah…Wayne Liu will make it big someday. I found him interesting since in Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms. In this Flame’s Daughter, he can make the role of Yu Zihan important and significant.
About Vic Zhou, I think modern day role is suit him better. Here, he don’t have appearance and vibe like an ethereal one 😀 instead he gave us a funny naughty look. the way he always teases Ruge.

  7. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

I was kind of low key looking forward to this drama because of Dilireba & the fighting scenes in the trailer. The snow guy looks so handsome in the promo pictures but when on screen, his kind of awkward in his acting. It felt like his never done ancient drama roles before. he just look so modern. I can see what people mean when they say Dilireba is not bringing anything new in her acting because she’s so busy with so many projects. But overall, the acting from the cast is not too bad. it’s not the best out there, but it’s good enough to keep me watching. Hopefully it’s not a tear jerker

  8. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

Urgh Vic Zhou is a total miscast for the role and Dilraba’s acting is quite flat here, she seems really out of it…

I wish they had gone with a fresher cast.

  9. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

I like this dramaa so much, so much anticipating the rest of the episodes >.<. Dont know why everyone gave harsh comments. I think Vic Zhou looks okay here, Love him so much.
And true the one potraying Yu play the best acting so far

    • 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

me too, I think Vic Zhou looks okay here. Nothing much to say about the lead actress but Wayne Liu’s acting is good. Sorry to say, I don’t really like ZBB’s character here. I know everyone is saying him hot but his character here really makes me so tired of watching him… well, this is just my opinion. *No hard feelings*

  10. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

Too early for me to leave any negative remarks. I feel everyone is suited for their role now. The story is interesting enough to keep me wanting more. With so many poor quality dramas we are having these days. This is a breath of fresh air. Vic is only starting to be more active in China drama scene. I am just glad to see him on my screen. He will just get better and he is fun to watch this first 6eps.

  11. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

I’m on the third episode and it looks pretty good so far.
As far as I know (based on the scene translation), Xue could be quite mischievous and I do get the vibe from Vic.
Maybe I didn’t have too high of an expectation in the beginning, so I’m still satisfied with everything.

  12. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

I’m really enjoying this drama so far. I think Vic and everyone else is fitting their roles pretty well. I absolutely love the story behind Vic’s character and the sacrifices he was welling to make to see his love again. The only thing that bugs me is that Ruge is dressed exactly the same as her past life. Even up to the same type of earrings. This really caused some confusions. A little change would have made it easier for viewers to distinguish past Ruge from present Ruge. Other than that, I am super excited to see the rest of this drama.

  13. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

I must be of the minority here. Initially I thought Vic was a bit awkward, too. But upon seeing more of him, it’s like he’s peeling off the layers of himself and show him the YX we deserve to see. I even went back and watched the opening scenes of his story line, where ppl has commented it felt flat, n it did felt flat at the beginning for me, but upon rewatching, I felt there is more to it and why it is so. The restrained of his raging emotions, and a hopeless hope to see her again. It’s like when you are numb to the world because you lost your most beloved but you forced yourself to do everything to just hold on to that final thread of hope.

I love Vic, I do get why ppl feel his acting is awkward, but upon rewatching certain scenes, no longer feel so. I also love beauties in the closet, him and HQB are so cute together, heartbreaking but make your heart happy seeing them. I love how he understands her, and how he always feel sorry toward her for not being able to spare her some thoughts despite knowing how much he loves her. Must be hella confusing! The transition between he’s totally being charmed by her sister to him knowing he’s about to lose HQB, the greatest love of his life is just so good and it’s just breaking your heart!

I have to say without vic and HQB I would drop it lol. And I like Han dong enough, but he’s not doing magic on me like Vic xD totally bias I know. And I love vic as YX so much right now, knowing the fate YX will have, I’m still in it, since I enjoy the drama so much.

There were a lot of unnecessary scenes in the first 5eps, but after that, the story moves quite decent. I don’t like ZBB, not in 3310, even though many said he’s talented, I just felt in 3310, all he did was pouting, and in this drama, I like him in action sequences, and agree he got the best look there, but I don’t feel his kiss on Ruge. And Yu, he’s not bad, but his character is a bit too standard boring for me! YX is just so much fun and layers, and each of his actions has serious thought behind them that make them interesting 🙂 I will continue to the end, so far, it hasn’t disappointed me, unlike untouchable (non)lovers >_>

  14. 25 thoughts on “First Impression: What do you think of Dilraba Dilmurat’s Lie Huo Ru Ge (The Flame’s Daughter)?

    Watch Marathon on Ep 15.

Vic is somewhat okay better than Meteor Garden.
    ZBB need new Character’s role.
Dill is better but his expression and script need to be better.
