ATV’s rebirth, to remake popular series My Date With a Vampire as a webdrama

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

My Date With A Vampire was the series I fell hard for vampires and its hunters. Lol! If you have watched ATV series, chances are you loved their Vampire franchise (both Date and Vampire Expert) as well because its one of their biggest runaway hits over TVB series. Its a classic romance with our heroine hailed from generations of ghostbusters and our hero who turned into a vampire after helping her ancestors. 60 years later, past mistakes meet present problems. The story is so intricately written and all the characters are connected in more than one way. Like Huan Zhu Ge Ge, part three doesn’t exist for me!

Old Stills:

Synopsis: Fong Kwok-wah is a Chinese guerrilla fighter from the time of the Second Sino-Japanese War. In 1938, he was fighting with Yamamoto Kazuo, a major of the Imperial Japanese Army, when they were interrupted by Cheung San, the progenitor of all vampires. The two men and a boy named Fuk-sang were bitten by Cheung San and they become vampires.

In present-day 1998, Fong lives in Hong Kong under a new name, Fong Tin-yau. His physical appearance has not changed since 60 years ago. He works as a policeman while Fuk-sang lives with him, attends primary school, and pretends to be his son. Fong meets Ma Siu-ling, the heiress to a clan of ghostbusters who have dedicated themselves to ridding the world of evil supernatural beings. Fong gradually becomes embroiled in a love triangle with Ma and Wong Jan-jan, Ma’s close friend and confidante.

On the other hand, Yamamoto has become the influential boss of a big company, and he commands a small group of vampire followers. Planning to turn every human being into a vampire, Yamamoto unleashes his minions to attack people and spread the “vampire gene”. Chaos break out in Hong Kong as vampires multiply and roam the streets freely. At this point, Fong teams up with Ma and his friends to stop Yamamoto and destroy him.

However, even after Yamamoto dies, not long later, a magician called Yu-meng Sap-sam resurrects him and controls him to do his bidding. The magician is actually Lo Hau, an evil sorcerer from ancient times who wants to dominate the universe. Once again, Fong, Ma and their allies combine forces to confront Lo Hau and put an end to his wicked ambitions. [Wiki]

Ma Siu Ling is forever my top heroine in a modern drama. Shes smart, capable, sharp-tongued, but ultimately a marshmallow deep down. I love her money-hungry ways, her ultimately impractical but the devil may care mini skirt when out and about busting ghosts! Joey Meng was wonderful.

Our hero played by Eric Yuen. I admit he wasn’t a looker at first glance but I bought his story in and out. His hairstyle stood out back then and I did like guys with longer hair. Hehe.

Can’t believe they’ve finally gotten their hands on this one. This was the only ATV production I cared about. I liked the OTP so much that I made my own cuts of them on video tape lol.

Whoever will be playing Ma Siu Ling has a tough act to follow.

Well, let’s hope this will be good.

My Date was MY vampire show. I mean just the concept was neat. A power duo hunting the supernatural. Multi-generation Vampires, different eye colors to represent them. Upgrade from one level to the next. Dressing like supermodels on a daily routine. It was good stuff. lol

My Date bridged western Vampires with Chinese mythology, and associate kung fu with Vampires. Plus Simon Yam with white long coat walking the night was a sight to remember.

Part 3, however, was not to be remembered. 😀

Ma Siu Ling! Joey Meng! Love the character and loved Joey playing her (still loving Joey to this day even when she’s on TVB now). I can’t believe they’ve gotten their hands on this one.
