Past Adaptations of Asunaro Hakusho:
Synopsis from Wiki: A coming of age story that follows five young university students who form a circle of friends. Tamotsu and Osamu (Kimura) fall in love with Narumi, who prefers Tamotsu. In order not to hurt each other as friends, both young men try to avoid forming a relationship with Narumi, which inadvertently leads to tragedy among the friends. After the accidental death of Junichiro, the friends leave university for various reasons, leaving Narumi to continue and finish her studies. A few years later they all meet again and are surprised by the secrets that are revealed.
The first live adaptation is a Japanese drama in 1993 with Kimura Takuya, Hikari Ishida, and Michitaka Tsutsui. Lol. I do not recognize Kimura at all!! Look at those big eye glasses! So adorable.
Second adaptation is Taiwanese drama Tomorrow in 2002 with Rainie Yang, Shawn Yue, and Eddie Peng. Oh my boo and his old hair in the 2000s. xD Darn Rainie doesn’t age!
Shawn Dou’s version is called Ten Years Late ~
Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy Press Conference
This is one HELL OF A GORGEOUS CAST.

Another remake and another tragic melodrama? :/
It seems Shawn is addicted to doing sad melodramas. Hopefully this will be good, since the cast is really pretty.

I was thinking the same thing, Shawn must really like this genre😄. Now I’m tempted to check out the original. I have yet to watch any of Kimura’s earlier dramas.

Interesting…the plot sounds a bit mysterious…any spoiler from past adaption? I am neutral regarding Gulnazar but havent finish any of her drama but based on the plot she does fit since she is quite beautiful 😁 Look forward to it but kind of want Shawn back on the ancient setting 😂lol

Yea he looks really really handsome in ancient garb, maybe he just likes modern dramas after doing a few ancient ones. In the meantime will just have to fill myself up with Tribes and Empires.

Aaah Asunaro Hakusho, one of my earliest drama.
Minor (?) spoiler below:
It basically a coming of age story, start from the college days. I don’t really remember the story now, but i do remember it filled with friendship, romance, love triangle, angst, LGBT, even suicide. So it’s not a drama full of rainbow. It had a quite happy & hopeful ending though but i didn’t like the main coupling, Kimura Takuya character (so sweet & caring) was my favorite here, but he didn’t get the girl….. Another favorite was the legendary theme song “True Love” by Fumiya Fuji.

Kimura Takuya wasn’t a lead yet in this drama, but I remember in both adaptations, people root for the second lead. Since Shawn Dou is already confirmed, I think he’ll be taking Michitaka’s character, not Kimura’s. But whoever is chosen to play the second male lead will have a lot to live up to.

yup..but he was main role before in Romeo & Juliet (1991) as a Romeo but cant find any video of the drama…but he become popular because of this drama…at that time, people try his hair style & his glasses. even popular than the main leads..because of his popularity..most of his drama’s rating is over 20%.and the highest rating was 41.3%, Beautiful Life.

I only watched the Taiwanese version. Loved it so much that I bought the soundtrack and became a fan of Fan Fan’s music.
Don’t remember much about the drama now except Rainie and Shawn Yue did not get along at all. =P

Gulnazar is the definition of flower vase for me. Pretty but just an inanimate object onscreen. Wish Shawn had a more talented, charismatic actress to act with.
The plot sounds so cliche but i guess there must be something about it for it to be filmed by three different countries and the Japan and Taiwan versions were both big hits.

If only he could meet another actress of ZLY caliber, or even near that would be great.

Ikr! We can’t deny that Gulinezha looks beautiful, but urghh… she just doesn’t really know how to act. So emotionless in all her dramas… Shawn Dou should be matched with a much better female lead!

Yeah, that’s why I’m def anticipating the secondary OTP in Tribes and Empires (aside from T&E just being so all around darn good in general) becuase Shawn Dou and Xu Lu look GREAT together and I rather like Xu Lu.
